  1. $30 million for Robocop will be consistent with tracking.
  2. Good for both ALN and EL. Both have A- Cinemascore as well.
  3. It looks like Endless Love will survive bad reviews mainly because of its small budget but Winter's Tale won't. That $75 million budget is a killer because I don't see it doing too well in most OS territories.
  4. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-lego-movie-last-680534 The rising star's newest film, About Last Night, is outpacing expectations at the Valentine's Day and President's Day box office, where it could soar past $25 million in its debut,... However, Lego Movie will win the four-day holiday overall with a huge gross north of $50 million. From Sony and MGM, RoboCop is pacing to gross another $17 million to $20 million for the four-day holiday weekend. (Same as Endless Love) Winter's Tale is a $75 million supernatural drama..... is projected to take in $13 million to $14 million for the four days.
  5. Yep. Neither of those movies have any big name actors either. Robocop may yet get saved by OS audience but Pompeii may be doomed if it doesn't break out in the US.
  6. If one of his movies is ready he is a lock for Cannes but who really knows with Malick ?
  7. Some contenders for Cannes 2014. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As the 64th Berlinale prepares to lower its curtain on Saturday, the attention of the global film industry professionals is turning to the 67th edition of the Cannes Film Festival (from 14 to 25 May 2014, with an advance ceremony on the 24th owing to the European elections). Although we already know who will be presiding over the competition jury (Jane Campion – read the news) as well as what the opening film will be (Grace de Monaco by Olivier Dahan – see the article), mystery still surrounds the programme that is being cooked up by General Delegate Thierry Frémaux, which he will unveil sometime in mid-April. In order to whet your appetite, here is a non-exhaustive list of the possible candidates for selection in the showcase of the world’s biggest festival. 8. ^^^ Matt Damon has walked away from big studio movies for some reason. I am pretty sure that he will be directing a movie within the next couple of years.
  9. Right but most of these would've done only about 10% or so better without the weather problems.
  10. I don't think all actors will be needed for six months. Ben Affleck is supposed to start prepping his Whitey Bulger movie in fall as well.
  11. BvS is supposed to start shooting in May and I don't think Jesse will be needed for more than a couple of months.
  12. No charges were filed against Michael Jackson back in the 90s when the sex abuse scandal first surfaced. Jerry Sandusky was investigated for the first time in 1998 and no charges were pressed. Allegations against some Catholic priests aren't new. Some of them were accused of molestation back in 80s and 90s but they had powerful people protecting them and nothing came out of those allegations. That no charges were pressed against Woody Allen was not an anomaly but par for the course back in the 90s as far as rich and powerful people were concerned. I believe in innocent until proven guilty but that only applies in cases where there was an attempt to prove guilt. If no one bothered to prove whether a person was guilty then innocent until proven guilty is not a judicial philosophy, it is a cop-out.
  13. ^^ This number is from 34 markets but most of these markets are tiny. $250 million OS is still in play.
  14. The guy is clearly trolling. Joaquim Phoenix was actually very convincing but this is so obvious.
  15. Monuments Men had a Super Bowl trailer. There is a clear recent pattern of super bowl helping movies over-perform their tracking so I am expecting Monuments Men to open to around $25 million.
  16. I don't think so. She is doing the right thing by keeping quiet and deflecting questions.
  17. Gitesh Pandya ‏@giteshpandya 1m Source tells me #TheLEGOMovie on track to possibly crack $20M today. Huge opening wknd might even hit $70M!
  18. Not gonna happen. If anything, increased success of native movies mean bigger budgets and more crowd pleasing movies. I think Hollywood movies will keep doing well in China but they are only going to face more competition from this point on.
  19. I saw the Rentrak chart yesterday, Simply stunning. BTW, movie #5 is a Russian horror movie Viy and #6 is a Korean movie, I don't think I have ever seen 4 non-Hollywood movies in the top 10 worldwide. http://www.rentrak.com/section/movies_and_tv_everywhere/top_entertainment_rankings.html#1
  20. David O. Russell admits he groped his 19-year-old transgender niece in a Florida gym, but according to TMZ, "The Fighter" director won't face charges in the incident. The case has been closed, a rep for the Broward County Sheriff's Office tells TMZ, without any charges being filed because the alleged assault wasn't witnessed by police. A rep for the department says the alleged victim, Nicole Peloquin, could take her case directly to the State's Attorney, but characterized it as unlikely. http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/sns-zap-ent-david-russell-groping,0,1079020.story
  21. Which is a more common occurrence ? A sexual assault or a "brainwashing" that lasts over two decades. She says she is happily married so she is unlikely to be under Mia Farrow's direct influence these days.
