  1. Are you kidding? Lego has amazing nostalgia appeal. I want to see the film just to see 1980s Spaceman-with-a-broken-helmet.
  2. Yeah. When I took my family to see Frozen, the thing that excited my niece and nephew the most before going was the chance to see the new Lego trailer. As far as Frozen's legs, following Tangled will put it in the 390s at this point, but it's holding better than Tangled. Since it's not going to get any more holiday boosts until after The Lego Movie opens after this weekend, it should see more consistent drops for a few weeks. From the 2.5 number, it seems likely it's going to get 17+ for the 4-day weekend, and could do 20 million for the week. If it starts taking 25% drops week-to-week, it'll be extremely close to 400. It could start taking 40% drops and it will beat DM2. 20% drops, and it might beat TS3's unadjusted.
  3. I can't tell the threads for Avengers2, Avatar2, BatSoup, or SW7 apart. That probably means it's time for bed. I'll probably got see Frozen again in the morning.
  4. I rather like Aaron Diaz' dream project idea: http://silmarillionproject.tumblr.com/
  5. Even if he hadn't, it seems mighty unlikely that the family would immediately change their minds. He's not the only one annoyed by the films.
  6. Right. Nothing based on anything Tolkien wrote besides LotR or The Hobbit is going to be made.
  7. Damaged in what way? It's not like they're going to release any other films. What else is there to hurt? An extremely unlikely remake? A 3D re-release?
  8. I think I'm glad I'm too new on the forum to understand. Jesus.
  9. 1998 was a pretty good year, too. A Bug's Life might be a weaker Pixar effort overall, but it's still quite good. Mulan is an upper tier Disney effort. And I'd completely forgotten about The Prince of Egypt, and that it was Dreamworks, which also had Antz as a not-great, but not terrible release. I'm not sure about any great anime releases that year, though. 1997 had Perfect Blue (good, but still Satoshi Kon's weakest film) and Princess Mononoke, but Hercules is an... uneven Disney effort, to say the least. I suppose Anastasia isn't bad for something from another studio.
  10. Daredevil, Power Man, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones each getting an individual series, and then a Defenders mini-series will tie them all together. It's the Avengers plan with more screen time, lower budgets, and street characters.
  11. Both of those characters are slated for the Netflix TV series, so I doubt there will be a film involving them. Truth be told, I expected Doctor Strange in the May 2016 slot. It being moved probably isn't a big issue.
  12. Wait. The Nut Job has the exact same screenwriter as Over the Hedge? Talk about not even trying. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0131661/?ref_=tt_ov_wr
  13. At no point in their comparable runs was The Avengers 200M ahead of Avatar. The closest it got was 160M, which was after 10 days. Avengers total through that point was 373 million to Avatar's 213. And while The Avengers grossed more in each of those 10 days, Avatar grossed more for every day thereafter. It finally overtook The Avengers after 44 days (Avatar: 585, Avengers 583).
  14. American Hustle is a lot of fun with some great acting performances. The story and direction aren't up to the hype (it's kinda lackluster as a con/heist plot), but it's fine to just get involved with the actors having fun in the roles for a couple hours.
  15. It must have been the trailer for The Nut Job that played in front of every showing of Frozen.
  16. Heh. I think it's the best year animation has had, but TS3 isn't the primary reason for that.
  17. I'm not sure why the AARP thing is funny. It's not like people stop going to movies once they hit a certain age. Also, given the movie-going trends of different age groups, if it does have such an endorsement and audience, that probably means its legs will be better than expected.
  18. Summer Wars was pretty good, yeah. It's not quite top tier for me, but very solid. 2012 also had The Wolf Children, which hit at about the same level. I hope Hosoda can really break out with a truly great film soon.
  19. That doesn't quite equate. It doesn't need to come in first to not be a flop. And Ride Along is hardly no-name. Kevin Hart has been making quite a career for himself.
