  1. I think it's a foregone conclusion that FD will reach $1B. If not, it will be a big disappointment.
  2. TJB dropped less than 20% from last Friday. What are the chances it retains this hold for the entire weekend and how does it compare to other recent family films?
  3. Mojo makes these annoying and stupid mistakes all the time. Plus the gross at BOM is not the actual because they just divide the actual euro-denominated gross by today's exchange rate. This is obviously wrong since most of its gross was made in the past weeks, in which the exchange rate might have been different.

It took 3 high-profile releases to propel the weekend's admissions to above 100K admissions, which is the first June weekend this happens in June 2013. 'Warcraft' expectedly scored a respectable first-place finish; the pre-release hype was quite big, but given it opened in June, this is not a disappointing opening. This of course pales in comparison to the openings of other video-game adaptations, like 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time' (60,569 admissions), but in these recessionary times such an opening is good enough. 'The Conjuring 2' barely dropped from its predecessor's opening (32,740 admissions), while 'Now You See Me 2' dropped 17.3%. Both are impressive given the 3-way competition of this weekend, however whether they can match the large mutliples of their predecessors is an entirely different question. All six top movies this weekend had, in fact, a per-screen average of more than 250 admissions, which hasn't been the case for more than a month now. 'Truman' and 'Lolo' had OK launches and 'El Olivo' held well, albeit slightly worse than I hoped. 'Angry Birds' is experiencing some holding power – the next family film will be 'The BFG' on the 30th of June, while 'Finding Dory' comes out in September, so the app adaptation should be able to surpass 90K in the coming weeks. Other films dropped horrendously, with both 'Apocalypse' and 'Alice 2' failing to reach the heights of their predecessors.
  5. Numbers are released on Monday. It is quite rare to get any numbers before that.
  6. Just imagine if 5 Disney movies make it there and they're the only ones. Truly unprecedented.
  7. Weekend 02-05/06/2016 Ranking Title Weekend admissions % Change from last weekend Total admissions Week 1 The Nice Guys 11,249 -10.3% 32,008 2 2 X-Men: Apocalypse 7,445 -52.8% 103,425 3 3 Alice Through the Looking Glass 6,213 -52.5% 25,352 2 4 El Olivo [Spanish] 5,923 N/A 5,923 1 5 The Dressmaker 4,943 N/A 4,943 1 6 Un peu, beaucoup, aveuglément! [French] 4,093 N/A 4,093 1 7 Angry Birds 3,716 -54.1% 77,035 4 8 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows 3,699 N/A 3,699 1 9 Captain America: Civil War 1,487 -54.8% 213,370 5 10 Colonia [German-Luxembourgish-French] 1,452 N/A 1,452 1 Sources: http://freecinema.gr/greek-box-office-pathetic-june-start/ http://flix.gr/news/greek-box-office-02-06-05-06-2016.html Total admissions fell to a dismal 54,420 although 'The Nice Guys' did manage to remain above 10K admissions. Word-of-mouth for the film has been strong and may propagate in the following weeks – the film has already surpassed 'Alice 2' in total admissions despite opening lower. This easily made it the weekend's winner with both 'Apocalypse' and 'Alice 2' dropping sizeably. The former will come close to 'Days of Future Past' while the latter is really trying to beat the record-low of 'Tomorrowland' for a Disney live-action film (since 2008). 'El Olivo' and 'The Dressmaker' both did a good job, playing on only 13 and 11 screens respcetively, while the 'Un peu, beaucoup, aveuglément!' did OK from twice the number of screens as the other two. It will be interesting to see if any of those movies breaks out in the coming weeks. 'Angry Birds' and 'Civil War' both had terrible drops: the former will barely scrape a 2.5x muliptlier and the latter could miss 'Deadpool's total of 217,088 admissions. As for 'TMNT 2', it opened 19.5% lower than its predecessor – that % drop may not be as big as in the US & Canada, but its predecessor's 4,595-admission opening was very low in the first place. This franchise was clearly never a thing in Greece and no will it ever be. Finally, 'Colonia' could have done better, but even the fact that all 5 new releases entered the Top 10 isn't a reason to celebrate, given the abysmal numbers reported. As for next week, we've got sequels to two highly successful films, 'The Conjuring' (opening: 32,740 admissions; total: 158,366 admissions) and 'Now You See Me' (opening: 22,574 admissions; 96,000 admissions), and 'Warcraft'. There thus seems to be something for everyone next week. The gaming culture in Greece is quite significant so it does seem like 'Warcraft' can outgun the competition, while we should also keep in mind the hold of 'The Nice Guys' and 'El Olivo'.
  8. It will reach $920M w/o SK & Japan. Over in the SK thread, they're saying it will make about $20M in SK, so Japan needs about $60M.
  9. We can be much more certain next week (then again maybe not). I doubt it will need more than $80M from SK and Japan. DOM and existing OS countries can push it past $920M.
  10. OS total around $390-410M I think. Including est. $155-165M from DOM gives us $545-575M. There is no chance of $600M imo.
  11. Can't it get closer to $150M? Ice Age 4 made about $200M. Have the ERs dropped very badly?
  12. There is a chance it will end up below Minions WW I think...
  13. Sadly, this thread won't beat the UK thread to 1,000,000 views. Still very close.
  14. I think it will probably open in first place purely due to lack of competition. What do you mean by "rumors"? Where did you hear these rumors? Another point to make is that Warcraft is selling strongly in Romania and since they are similar markets to a certain extent (culturally), it is possible that it could perform quite well in Greece.
  15. It's way lower than CA3. But it has a significant chance of outgrossing its predecessor.
  16. New films released this weekend: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows Colonia [German-Luxembourgish-French] The Dressmaker El olivo [Spanish] Un peu, beaucoup, aveuglément! [French] This may be the first time this year that no film sells more than 10,000 admissions over the weekend. Fun times.
  17. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dory HAS to become the biggest animated film of all time WW. Obviously I won't complain about $1B, but seriously? I'll admit that ER will make it tough but that's what Zootopia made. It HAS to out-gross Zootopia. In EVERY. SINLGE. COUNTRY. NO. EXCUSES.
  18. Fox has been lucky enough to avoid the negative press since Alice 2 was a worse dud than Apocalypse. All the chat has been about the gigantic failure that Alice was but all in all Apocalypse was quite disappointing too.
  19. Looks unlikely to reach $1B by Sunday, but it will do it mid-week.
