  1. Everyone should go take a look at the covers for Vanity Fair's yearly Hollywood Issue since the beginning 20 years ago, especially the "ingenue" covers. It's pretty interesting looking back at the people who went on to big things and those who have pretty much faded into obscurity.
  2. I remember reading reviews for The Nut Job saying that the end credits feature all of the characters from the movie dancing to Gangnam Style with an animated version of Psy. Life is way too fucking short, sorry.
  3. But who's gonna watch Avengers: Age of Ultron or Mockingjay Part 1 online two weeks before they comes out even if it's DVD quality when you lose out on the theatrical experience (besides those who do nothing all day but sit in front of a computer, a small demographic). If people want to see a movie really badly, they'll fork over the $12 to see it on the big screen, come on now. I bet most of the people who pirated The Expendables 3 were either on the fence about it or weren't planning on seeing it in theaters in the first place.
  4. LOL the effects of piracy are being overstated. If people really want to see a movie they will wait to see it in theaters (which is the case for both of those movies). I'd be surprised if The Expendables 3 lost more 10% of its opening gross because of the leak.
  5. I think the leak/pirated copy making a huge impact is up for debate since we have seen time and time again that piracy doesn't really hurt movies (I imagine 99% of people who pirate movies in general are those who either were on the fence about or weren't really planning on seeing the movie in theaters in the first place). The second Expendables saw a drop-off from the first when everyone was expecting it to at least stay flat with the first, and the marketing for this one did little to differentiate itself.
  6. The LEGO Movie was still playing at many theaters because it was on all of the summer kids movies schedules, so movie theaters probably felt good about holding onto it.
  7. I was just about to say, another 60%+ drop? It's not a flop since I can't imagine the budget was too high, but man is it one of the biggest disappointments of the summer.
  8. Is there really any point in "fudging" the numbers when the movie has been out for more than a week. Plus, if they were to do that, I doubt they would aim for a non-milestone like $28M.
  9. Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are kind of reminding me of the Rush Hour 2/American Pie 2 duo from August 2001. On a higher scale, of course.
  10. Guardians will likely top out between $280-290M, methinks. Although the fact that might be enough to take #2 of the year domestic is pretty mind-boggling.
  11. But a simple drop-off would've been had it dropped from $85M to $65-70M. Dropping from $85M to $40M (which is what this looks to make at most) isn't just a drop-off, it's almost an implosion.
  12. We are now officially entering the dog days of summer and what looks to be a very long dry spell. Won't be surprised if there isn't a $20M+ opener until The Equalizer.
  13. I agree. This is probably one franchise where audiences are just Over It.
  14. Or what, the world will blow up? Some of you really need to get a life and stop worrying about trivial things like Guardians of the Galaxy being #1 for more than one week lol.
  15. A Boyhood The LEGO Movie A- Chef Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Guardians of the Galaxy How to Train Your Dragon 2 X-Men: Days of Future Past B+ 22 Jump Street Begin Again Captain America: The Winter Soldier Edge of Tomorrow The Fault In Our Stars The Grand Budapest Hotel A Most Wanted Man Neighbors B Get on Up Godzilla Lucy Maleficent Million Dollar Arm Muppets Most Wanted Noah Non-Stop B- The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Divergent Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Magic in the Moonlight Rio 2 C+ 300: Rise of an Empire Jersey Boys The Monuments Men Tammy C A Million Ways to Die in the West Ride Along
  16. Not surprised. It was never gonna find much of an audience in theaters.
  17. I remember being really impressed by the special effects in Spy Kids back when it came out, especially since the budget was very low by blockbuster standards ($35M, if I remember correctly).
  18. With the exception of maybe 2009, the second half of August of years past is littered with the corpses of movies that either didn't live up to expectations or were pretty much dumped by their studios. This year looks to be no different.
  19. No offense ya'll but I'm gonna be really happy when both Guardians and Turtles are out of theaters. Must everything be a fan war?
