China Box Office Thread | Oppenheimer-August 30
James replied to A Marvel Fanboy's topic in China At The Box Office
Does Fantastic Beasts 3 have a release date? Or has a chance of getting one? -
All this HBO Max talk is ridiculous for 2 reasons: 1. It doesn't even matter that much how much this makes DOM because the Wizarding World always was mainly an OS phenomenon. This can make only 100m DOM (and I bet it does way more) and it would still cross 500m WW. 2. I seriously doubt Rowling would ever allow it and make no mistake, she has full control over the franchise and WB wants that HP sequel so they will keep her happy (and it's not like they are losing money. FB is only disappointing next to the phenomenon that HP was, but these movies still make a shit ton of money, not even counting all the anciliary revenue that comes after theaters).

Gosh there is sooo much negativity sorrounding this project! And we barely saw anything ffs. As a huge Tolkien fan (I’ve read pretty much all his books, including some of the History of Middle-earth -still making my way through that) it is so disappointing. I do agree that including hobbits is strange but it can be made to work. At least wait to see a full episode before judging the whole thing🙃

As a long life Tolkien fan it is the opposite for me.

Despite her comments, it felt awkaward not to have Rowling there and I've seen a lot of reviews mentioning that. I am really curious how things between her and WB are because WB clearly wants that HP sequel and the only way they will ever get that (or anything else Wizarding World related) is if Rowling agrees to it. I've seen comments in this thread about WB moving forward without her - whoever commented that clearly did not follow how much control Rowling has over this franchise. She literally controled how the damn fake boulders looked in the theme parks lmao. Good luck getting the franchise away from her while she is still alive.

2022 Box Office Predictions and Discussion
James replied to Eric Duncan's topic in Box Office Discussion
It has less to do with bts drama and more with the fact that the real Black Panther is sadly not among us anymore. Sure, they will pass on the mantle but it will be a similar drop like Fast and Furious registered after Paul Walker’s death. Maybe even more severe. -

2022 Box Office Predictions and Discussion
James replied to Eric Duncan's topic in Box Office Discussion
Updating this taking into account the China Marvel ban (not confirmed but very likely): Avatar 2 - 2.3B Jurassic World 3 - 1.35B Doctor Strange 2 - 1.15B The Batman - 1.1B Aquaman 2 - 1B Thor 4 - 950m Black Panther 2 - 850m Lightyear - 820m MI8 - 800m -
Top 10 of the year in Romania (as expected, poor year given the many lockdowns - the market is still at less than half of what it was before the pandemic): 1. Fast & Furious 9 - $2.2m 2. Spiderman - $1.3m (Spidey just had a slightly bigger second week than FF9, but with Christmas holidays that is normal; the BO will collapse during New Years though, when everything is closed, so as it stands I think FF9 will remain the No. 1 in the end) 3. Dune - $1.02m 4. Luca - $1.05m (slightly above Dune in USD but under Dune in local currency - USD fluctuations) 5. No Time to Die - $933k 6. Venom 2 - $867k 7. House of Gucci - $842 8. Jungle Cruise - $720k 9. Shang-Chi - $699k 10. Black Widow - $688k The surprises of the year were definitely Dune and especially House of Gucci (it is currently no. 7, but it has a good shot at beating No Time to Die to claim a place in the Top 5, which is outstanding). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also, here is the The Top 10 all Time in Romania in terms of admissions (from 2000s onward - there are a few movies pre 2000s that made over 1m admissions, but the ticket prices are not comparable - the average ticket price in 1994 for example was 10 cents or so, compared to around $7 now): 1. Avatar - 881.718 2. Fast and Furious 8 - 683.878 3. Aquaman - 679.617 4. Frozen 2 - 655.140 (no exact data for this one, but a very close aproximation) 5. Furious 7 - 651.232 6. Avengers: Endgame - 621.725 (no exact data for this one, but a very close aproximation) 7. Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 601.242 8. Joker - 531.407 9. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies - 526.702 10. Miami Bici - 525.238 (local movie) As it stands right now, the only titles that have even a remote chance of unseating Avatar as the most attended movie ever in Romania in the near future are Avatar 2 (maybeeee) and Aquaman 2 (if it's as good as the first one). But tbh, I doubt the market will be back to normal by this time next year, when both those movies come out and they will canibalize each other lol (as it stands right now, they are set to debut on the same weekend which will likely ensure the biggest month in Romanian cinema history - it would also mean that any movie opening close to them will bomb), so probably Avatar will reign supreme for the foreseeable future).

DOM will likely be over 100m, but OS will be way bigger than 250m lol. Cmon. Why would this fall almost 250m from the last one. It will do at least 350-400m OS. You really disregard how strong the Potter fandom is OS. And that alone will guarantee that WB will be happy to continue this franchise as planned.

Weekend Thread (12/10-12) | WSS 800K Previews

These numbers for WSS only reinforce how well HoG did. Goes to show that Gaga has real star power. Really curious what she decides to do next. -

The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
James replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
Do we know when House of Gucci tickets will go sale and will you guys track it? I am really curious about that one. -
It's actually not that set in stone as the DOM market is. Depends a lot on distributors, holidays etc. My point was, the drop next week will likely seem bigger than it is, given this 90m weekend is quite inflated, Overall this might crawl past 400m, but I don't see it higher than that. We seem at odds concerning this movie and it is not my intention to cause trouble here, so let's just agree to disagree and let the numbers talk for themselves over the next couple of weeks.
