Will Mummy catch Wonder Woman's total? I am surprise why Mummy still beat WW in HK this weekend despits poor reviews. Hk is known for their taste in movies (i thought) Hope wonder woman follows Taiwan's BO trend in Japan. Taiwan and Japan have some very similar cultural appreciation.

Wonder Woman is a movie about WW1... and some may say depicts Germany in Bad Light. WOM may be good.. but if everyone exits and tell their friends that their country is put in bad light.. there will be no positive WOM effect.

The movie is about WW1...from England's POV. Doubt it will do well in Germany. Hope I am wrong though.

Heard that weather is very bad in China today? Potentially affect BO?

Not a local film Its Doreamon, a Japanese film. Doreamon is quite popular in China.

Simply Put - Movies with Good WoM improved when it is a Holiday (Yes, Pirates has quite a good audience WoM in China) The local films all showing signs of big flops (despite God of War fudging almost 1/3 of its daily box office) - the effects of bad(or at most average) WoM. Local producers can complain about their film lack showtimes, but Dangal proved yesterday that despite lack of showtimes - it managed to beat the fudging movie. If China opens up July for Hollywood imports, things will get interesting.

Douban is at 6.2 2nd highest... but the absolute score is 6.2 is pathetic. Highest production budget out of the new films, but quality is barely better. You should read what people are saying on weibo and tieba. This review you posted is too optimstic.. comparing this to John Woo's Red Cliff? Lol. Honestly you will cringe watching this show. I am not saying he is lying. Maybe english reviewers don't get the small nuances in the film.Language used in the film, historical context etc. Many reviewers also said the film felt like 2 episodes of TV shows squeezed into 1 movie, scenes were not epic enough to be felt like a movie. The fact that Bona Film Group started fudging since opening Midnights and did a 6.9yuan presales (with the ticket stubbed printed at 50yuan) and gave away free tickets with ticket price printed on them... shows they have almost 0 confidence in their movie. They probably watched it, knew it was bad(or average at best) and just wanted to get the film out and not lose too much. Now even with Fudging, 100m yuan is tough.

Heard From who? Its not even the best WOM of the newcomers. Average film at best, even the fans of the main characters have wrote in forums that they felt disappointed, with weird pacing, and the quick ending.

Of the new releases, BEST WoM so far is "DiDi's Dream" - 8.7 on Maoyan so far. 吃吃的爱。 I have seen the trailer, looks like a fun comedy. And is the effort from the hosts of a very popular taiwanese entertainment show. Issue is with the screen counts...

3/7 movies she listed are by one of the best actors in HK/China =) If you get wha i mean. But I do hope her movie breaksthrough, get 3rd on Sat after POTC5 and Dangal hopefully

Except that Ip Man 3 was killed by Bluray release in HK in is 2nd weekend of its China release... People were stumbling onto the full HD movie while searching for reviews online.. Chinese distributor killed Ip Man 3 by delaying almost 4months later than in other regions.

Donnie Yen and Amir Khan should do a movie together... Cannot imagine the box office potential in both China and India. The movie just needs to be decent, and I can see records breaking.

I think reviews and scores should be looked at... on a relative basis. Not absolute basis. What i mean is.. GOTG2 has high maoyan score and douban score.. but relative to Dangal it is considered the "less good" movie. Same case as Ip Man 3 and Zootopia. Ip Man 3 is one of the best Chinese film I have ever watched but same release date as Zootopia.. so on a relative basis - if people can only watch 1 movie.. they choose the better film.
