  1. That can change since Bullock so isn't happening. She is really great though!
  2. I'm thinking Joy or The Revenant. Carol if it breaks out could have a ton of below the line noms. If Mad Max gets director and picture it could have 9 noms too.
  3. You're right. I've been to Chicago when the snow is just dirty and disgusting. What I mean is pretty, fluffy, white snow that is posed or abundant. But I'm no too credible when it comes to snow. I live in Phoenix.
  4. You are. There is no way this doesn't get an animation nod. Especially for Minions.
  5. Tough watch is an understatement. It definitely keeps you at shoulders width emotional, but the whole premise is jarring.
  6. I think a thread for this year's Foreign Language Oscar front runner is neccisary, especially after it broke out during the fall festivals. "In the horror of 1944 Auschwitz, a prisoner forced to burn the corpses of his own people finds moral survival upon trying to salvage from the flames the body of a boy he takes for his son." This is probably one of the most intense and visceral films I have ever seen. I can barely call it a film becuase it is such an experience. It is shot from a first person perspective, so that adds an element of being apart of the film. I think it will break out huge with the Oscars and can run up five or six nominations. They are possible in this sort of order: Best Foreign Language Film, Best Sound Mixing, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Picture and Best Actor. https://youtu.be/YBcIErmx18w
  7. I think people forget that snow doesn't need good cinematography to look pretty.
  8. This seems to be out floppiest predictions so far. The Revenant is locked. The Hateful Eight should be in. Son of Saul has a great chance here. Joy is a possible spoiler as I'm sure DOR has been close before and Joy looks more engaging. This is my ballsy guess. Carol, Mad Max, Sicario, Beasts of No Nations, maybe Bridge of Spies and MAYBE The Martian are fighting for fifth imo.
  9. Is there anyway Lubezki doesn't win this realistically?
  10. @MichaelNotCera: THE REVENANT described as harrowing story that's imerssed into a realm of relentless barbaric violence that complements the story very well @MichaelNotCera: Also, interesting.... THE REVENANT actually contains a lot more dialogue than you would expect considering the narrative
  11. @MichaelNotCera: Early word THE REVENANT. Being described as scenic porn (shocker) & "Apocolypto meets Cast Away meets the end of The Lord of the Flies" This seems like a mess. I'm not sure those three entities can live together. I don't like Apocolypto or Cast Away but I'm sure this is underselling the film.
  12. Joy screens in LA tomorrow. I'd imagine it is mostly done. Speculative smear campaign has already started.
  13. Yup! In LA last night. I dont have an affinity for hyper-masculine torture poem or Leonardo Dicaprio and want a clear path for homeboy DOR to sweep. That being said, I loved Birdman and Lubezki is a genius. I would never actively start rumors for the sake of taking this down.
  14. I got a real reaction. It sounds like a home run and probably Innaritu's best film. This reaction was a total rave and even said it had a lot of narrative heft.
  15. First impression: visual and technical masterpiece, narrative a mess. Hardy is MVP.
  16. It was The Revenant! First reaction was very meh and in all the ways some of us expected. Let me find more.
  17. No joke. My contacts didn't even get into the screening despite RSVPing. This might be a flop showing.
  18. I could totally be wrong about this screening. It was group think speculation. Rumor says that it might be Deadpool instead?
  19. Where have you been? The Martian isn't original. It is based off of a best selling novel.
  20. Sorry DOR babe. Next time. I just got back from LA and am going back in a month from today. I can't justify three trips on my poor man's college budget.
