  1. So, I watched this for the first time today Number one, this is definitely a horror movie to me. Also, I read up on the film after I watched, but it actually made plenty of sense. I'm shocked by how coherent it is. All of the answers are really right there. Naomi's performance is great. I love how it transitions from camp to pure drama to horror. She really is asked a ton in this Deliciously surreal and hugely rewarding. I can't wait to watch it again.
  2. I think the "backlash" has to do with subject matter. People also theorize that the critics recognized they got it wrong which is why the heavily rewarded Django, which is (in my opinion and I'm sure many others) the weaker of the two films.
  3. Inglorious Basterds is actually Tarantino's least well reviewed that isn't called Jackie Brown. It has a 69 on Metacritic. If it went below that it'd be in danger of nominations usually. That has always baffled me since I think it might be his best film of the 2000s. And The Academy loved it. It makes me wonder if all of QT's movies are safe for BP
  4. This is an oddly cute post despite how creepy it is.
  5. I didnt know people didn't like Pan's Labrynth. It is a masterpiece and some of the most interesting story telling in recent cinema. I definitely suggest a revisit!
  6. Obviously! That is the fun in predicting.
  7. If you'd like to agree with me you'll have to take Depp off your predictions too, babe.
  8. You're late to the conversation, Baumer. And I stand by what I said. But I also understand that this a perspective of mostly people my age.
  9. Maybe you guys are right. But his whole personality and viewpoint is off putting despite the fact that I think he is a genius cinephile and an often great filmmaker. I don't think I am reading in to what he is saying to much though. I think the deeper issue is that I sometimes take problem with people overstepping their cultural boundaries in filmmaking. It is my generation's over-sensitivity I'm sure.
  10. You're right, but I'm sure Tarantino thinks that too. And he said Selma was a very good TV movie. But Let's look further than that. "Tarantino shrugs diplomatically: ‘'She did a really good job on ‘Selma’ but ‘Selma’ deserved an Emmy.' " It's a complete bastardization of one of the best received movies of last year.
  11. Maybe they are, but I find it really disgusting that he thinks Django Unchained is more "forward-thinking" than Selma. Even if he thinks that I don't know what posses him to diminish the work of one of the few African American women who gets her projects made.
  12. I thought everyone agreed he has zero chance of winning. No? I hate when people make predictions and sound like they are saying things factually. Sorry that that is how this is coming out. I'll be more careful with my semantics.
  13. But you haven't seen this. I'm not even confident you've seen Pan's Labrynth. I'm all for making assumptions about movies before I see them, but your assumptions seem to be 100% solidified before you even see the film.
  14. Of course Ellis spun it to be pro Tarantino. That doesn't change the fact that it highlights Tarantino's racism, heightened sense of importance and mysognism. The dude thinks he is some kind of God. Newsflash: Inglorious Basterds wasn't runner up in best picture, director or screenplay.
  15. He didn't have chances. So no, it doesn't.
  16. Totally does. There is a new article out about him and it is rough. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/12/t-magazine/quentin-tarantino-bret-easton-ellis-interview.html?_r=0
  17. You're so predictable. Picture and director aren't assured. Especially director, no need to reward him there.
  18. Fun fact: Mad Max has started screening for guild and they definitely are pushing it for best picture.
  19. But Brolin certainly wasn't a good guy either. And by the end neither was Kate. The whole point of the movie is moral ambiguity of the entire operation, I think. If you can come out saying someone is good or bad then I am not confident that the movie affected you in the way Villenevue wanted.
  20. You forgot Steve Jobs. And technically The Revenant is seen. It tested too. But you can't call The Revenant, Joy or The Hateful Eight as actually being seen. They were test screenings and they might not reflect the final product. Let's take them all to AFI!!
  21. Why? The direction and performances are what make the whole thing work.
  22. I have egg all over my face. Damon totally has a narrative. The Martian will go Comedy at Globes and he will likely win Comedy Actor. I'm not saying he is happening, but he will totally pick up precursors. Definitely ahead of Depp.
