This will be the 5th movie this year breaking the top 50 WW. Will probably end up close to ROTS. If we get three more films breaking the top 50 WW 2015 will better the number of 2012 films making it (SF, AUJ, TA, TDKR, TASM, Twilight, IA4)

You must not forget that domestic and much of the OS grosses in July and August (except for Minions) left the BO fans despaired, angry, frustrated or bored. And now the China grosses don't live up to the expectations. I think next year will be, if not as big, probably more fun and interesting to follow. The first half of year with KFP3, Deadool, Zoolander 2, BvS and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 will be much more enjoyable than this spring.

Yes, and that's what make life worth living for a box office fan. Remember when Harry Potter DH2 was released in 2011? Now we get those 3 times a year. It's like christmas every day for a box office tracker.

June (with Star wars 8 released 5/26) and July (with Minions released 6/30) will be monstrous. Both may very well total 1,5B. Unless every dam WB film are pushed to 2018 like BvS.

I think Pirates will feel pretty fresh in some way with Orlando returning. A mini JW perhaps. (even though i hated all the films -- i only watch the first half of the three sequels)

ehm... Yeah, because Get Smurfy and Spider-Man (which is still sony?) will gross at 2,5B each... I think the race between Universal and Disney will be even more intense 2017. This is so not going to end well. I can not see 17 films doing more than 100m. I barely can see more than 8 films doing more than 100m. I always knew everest would be a big hit (especially since it's an Universal). But 100m? Left are the likes of "h8ful" (wom), "Spectre", Star Wars", HT, Martian, Hunger Games, and "that good dino". Peanuts look too indie and depressing i think for breaking out. Bridge of spies may be thrilling enough, may as well be not. Pan will bomb and so will Crimson Peak (see "Poltergeist"). But from another point of view: the top ten movies grosses this year will equal the top 15 from 2013, maybe even top 20. This is the year when big fishes totally ate the small ones.

Thanks to this weekend this september is now (to date) the second biggest september with 399m (2011 had reached 401 by this point). If next weekend brings us 150m (not very likely, but still) and the weekdays brings us (8*7) 56m this september will be the biggest of them all.

Minions only needs to gross 43 million to become a top 10 of all time! It'll probably reach that milestone next sunday... Only to be pushed out from the top ten two or four months later.

I almost thought this weekend would be the death of the 2015 chances to reach 11B

For how long have they, in the states, had discount tuesdays? Wonder how much longer they will exist cause they seem to take some of wind out of the sails from not just wednesdays but they will also affect the weekends as well. Sooner or later. Movie total grosses will be less.

Actually, this summer season ain't too bad. If you take a look at the season-to-date grosses you'll see that every past summer (except for that 2013 monster) is tailing this one. 2015 summer season stands at 3,800 while the rest stands at: 2014: 3,420 2013: 4,050 2012: 3,650 2011: 3,660 2010: 3,460 August "only" needs to gross 400 more to make this summer on par with the 2012 summer.
