  1. They're meant to be seen on the big screen in 3D. That doesn't make them bad movies. It's the same thing as saying "well, without sound it's not very good."
  2. It'll be interesting to see how Jobs performs. Apple has a cult-like following so you'd think people would turn out for it.
  3. I disagree. His command of silence and use of tracking shots and slow dollies really sets a nice tone and makes everything happening feel more important than it actually is. Also, directing talent includes directing actors, and besides Edgerton the entire ensemble does good work. That shot where the camera follows the gang as they drive to do a hit, passing guns to each other in silence as the city shadows pass over them? That's good directing.
  4. Come on, it's well-made, well-acted...the problem is it's not special. At all. Were it not for Depp and the above-average directing the movie would've received very little attention. On the page it just doesn't stand out. It's a gangster movie that follows familiar gangster movie tropes.
  5. Why so low for The Walk? I think it can at least break 10mil.
  6. Strange clip to release. Scene doesn't look like it's supposed to be LOL funny, just a fun segue to a montage.
  7. Gravity was a movie meant for the big screen in 3D. It doesn't make it a lesser movie. In the old days movies were only meant for the big screen.
  8. Gravity was better visually and more emotional, but I'm happy for The Martian. Good return to form for Scott.
  9. No film with those actors and that cinematographer can be said to look dull. Watch Paul Blart and get some fucking perspective.
  10. I guess that's why critics, who are notorious for panning empty spectacle, completely trashed this movie.
  11. The sequel makes a little more sense after you see the movie. There's a whole 'nother story to explore with Del Toro's character.
  12. Seriously, man, I think David O. Russell and Jeremy Renner didn't like each other.
  13. Audiences are fickle. Most people knew the end to the sniper's story. Plus, people go to war movies expecting that kinda thing.
  14. Crime movies aren't the easiest sell, but they're far from difficult. The Town and The Departed are good examples.
  15. Gyllenhaal is a household name, but I don't really understand how people who follow box office are still talking about actors as draws. You guys know there are very few of them left. There are many, many stars who aren't box office draws. So it's almost completely irrelevant that he's not a draw. Besides, he's barely in the trailer.
  16. With that cast and that premise, the only reason this isn't getting more awards buzz is McKay.
  17. Movie blog, eh? Nice! I have one myself. What's yours called?
  18. Complaining that a sequel wasn't understandable while also not having seen the first movie is like blaming McDonald's because you spilled hot coffee on yourself. It's your fault, not the movie's. At their core, sequels are meant to be seen in conjunction with the original.
  19. Scorch Trials proves it's not so much how big the budget is that matters, it's how you use it. It cost $60 and looks like it cost twice as much as Insurgent.
