  1. Saw it tonight. Not as bad as the trailers make it look, but obviously not a good movie. Amid the bad cgi Proyas manages some wicked images. You can always count on him for that. I'll say this about the whitewashing...it's still kind of egregious, but besides the God characters everyone at least looks like they could hail from the middle east, if not accurate ancient Egypt. The fact that nearly all of the God characters are white while a majority of the mortals are ethnic is a whole nother problem.
  2. I enjoyed The Martian, but it's one of the more overrated movies of last year.
  3. I'm talking about their recent output. Prisoners and Sicario are better than anything Scott has made in the last decade, including The Martian.
  4. You should be more excited that Scott's not directing. The Martian notwithstanding, Villeneuve is a better director at this point.
  5. Let me clarify. I just meant it's like It Follows in that they're both artful and not the usual jump-scare sort of horror film that average moviegoers enjoy. Otherwise they're completely different
  6. Incredibly detailed, beautifully shot, obviously unnerving, but it does drag a little in the midsection before going off the rails (in a good way). Kinda like It Follows, this is for film buffs, not your average moviegoer. They'll probably hate it.
  7. More than likely if they think it can contend for Oscars they'll give it a qualifying run on Christmas at a later date. But they havent even started filming yet, so I bet they just wanted to stake this weekend for their wide opening first.
  8. Joy is definitely underrated. It's easy to watch it and think it's a mess, because the film's themes, those things that tie it together, are kinda subtle. The movie's not as concerned with biopic fluff or telling us about the rise of QVC so much as it's concerned with telling a story about the brutality of business and specifically the difficulty women have in business. Watch the movie and note every time two men shake hands in front of Joy and mostly ignore her in that respect.
  9. Can someone explain to me where this whole bear rape joke came from? Not once does it look like the bear is raping him in the actual movie, so who the fuck started this childish internet meme?
  10. Feel so alone in my love for Spectre. It's almost as good as Casino Royale, not on par with Skyfall though. I thought the return to old Bond-isms was kinda refreshing, and the directing/cinematography was so on point. It managed to make all those cliches feel new again, including the all-powerful supervillain in a chair. Kingsman might be the most overrated movie of the year. It's fun, entertaining, but completely enamored with itself and thinks it's more clever than it is. Spy parodies are old hat to me at this point, although I enjoyed Spy a little more for it's goofiness.
  11. This is true. They were piled on a table and when I first walked up I thought they were matches.
  12. Never seen their show, thought the trailer was funny as fuck. Color me surprised.

  14. Oh cry me a river. I will despise Disney execs forever for the crap they pulled with The Hateful Eight in Hollywood. They've got the biggest movie in the world, guaranteed to make them billions, and they're playing dirty for a few extra dollars.
  15. No movie is worth seeing 18 times in theaters. Sorry. Like someone else above said, donate that money to charity instead.
  16. I don't know...seems kinda fucked up to call it Cloverfield-something, release a trailer like that, then release a movie that's not connected to Cloverfield.
  17. So glad to see Star Wars possibly losing #1 to a movie like The Revenant. Don't know how you guys can see a movie three times, much less seven times. I'd rather spend money on a potentially bad movie (Daddy's Home, for example) I haven't seen than a good one I've already seen.
