  1. So you are suggesting people think GWTW is problematic simply because they already hated the movie?
  2. Because people hate him for beating Citizen Kane with How Green was my valley, despite the fact that Orson himself regards Ford as one of the best director of all time.
  3. LOTR: FOTR is the first film of the Middle-Earth double trilogy, it has the "origin/first out of the gate" element in the hype. Also, it was nominated for 13 Oscars including Best Picture, which definitely washed away its franchiseness. Raider of lost ark wasn't a franchise by the time it get released. As for Schindler's list, no justification is needed to exclude it from the list of franchise. TDK and ESB are the purest "franchise" film among top 5, and even with that, the former has Nolan brand to shield it from anti-franchise community.
  4. 14 actual Oscar Best Picture like Godfather Part I & II, Titanic, Parasite, The Apartment 29 are Oscar best picture nominees such as Raider of Lost Ark, Apocalypse Now, Mad Max Fury Road, Saving Private Ryan 9 are Oscar best animated feature winner includes Inside Out, Sprited Away and Spiderverse 2 are Oscar best foreign language film winner like Parasite and 7 Samurai
  5. I like how they showed Coppola in two different boxes when they announce the winner, just to show that he directed two Best picture nominees , Godfather Part II and The conversation in a same year with Godfather II named as winner and forever remember as one of the best in history of visual art.
  6. Did nobody know Federico Fellini when they mention great cinema of prep1970?
  7. I have always regard Taxi Driver as Scorsese' best movie, with the Colour of Money and Goodfellas tied in 2nd. It is almost like a accidental success to even Scorsese he himself.
  8. Given the multiple delays, They should just rename this movie to "The Old Mutants"
  9. This could be perfect time for small release from A24 or Sony Classic to have mini-breakout, they have been doing staggering release all this while after all.
  10. Maybe after this we can do something like the greatest acting of all time
  11. The world of mouth of this one is terrible in my country (although it did break opening record for SK film). the melodramatic style of the first one was what made it a commercial success.
  12. City of God has the best editing achievement in cinematic history. The other film I can think of that can make this debatable includes Memento, Apocalypse now, JFK
  13. I don't rule out the possibility that Parasite top both BoT top 100 foreign language and Top 100 films of all time list.
  14. Clockwork Orange is a comedy version of the City of God, in the dark way of course. The thing have some of the most disgusting scene that I ever seen in a movie, The practical effect was so effectively gross that made 2011 remake like a cartoon although by right the 2011 remake should looked better thanks to technological advancement. Both version prove once again, Practical effect > CGI. T The original make me feel thrilled and disgusted but 2011 remake only gave me thrill but maybe they intentionally tone IT down for commercial reason.
  15. So the movie world is going to assume that 2020 never existed?
  16. Not to mention the still sour relationship between Beijing and Seoul. They may still release it post-Oscar win in the art cinema chain like Bohemian Rhapsody.
  17. I got a feeling that this film is going to use delay news as a marketing tool , maybe 2 weeks in each delay announcement.
  18. Tree of Life bored me but I never disliked that boredom, in fact, the mysterious boredom that Tree of Life gave was very memorable because I constantly feel the film was calling me although i wasn't really invested in the plot. It was a wondrous boredom that left a positive impression in my memory that drive me to rewatch them. On the other hand, boyhood, as experimental it was, the "compilation" way of storytelling was just not rewarding. It was directionless, and I just don't get why should I care the way how he grown up. It just show you the process of growing up, literally. And there are so many great coming-of-age film in recent year like lady bird that show the stablisation of rebellion & development period during adolescene. I was just not on board the Boyhood's hype train. I am pretty sure I am not only one and I am not ashamed to speak out. Boyhood is just one of the universally acclaimed movie that I was bored by, along with Lost In translation, the revenant, Her, avengers, a star is born .......
  19. No, why would i hate him?? He never offended me, I didn't even know him personally. I just don't feel the urgent need to catch up his filmography.
  20. How the hell was wrong? I was bored by that movie to the max, it was my feeling, how do you tell that I was "actually" not bored by the film?
  21. Boyhood was not my first Linklater's movie either. It was that anime--like scanner darkly which i thought was quite good and I didn't know Linklater was the director until Boyhood. As for Before trilogy, I never saw them but perhaps will give a try when the "haunting" experience in boyhood show start to fade away.
  22. Didn't know that Richard Linklater is such a champion in independent cinema. His Boyhood is one of my biggest snooze fest in cinema. It was thoroughly pointlessly boring. and testing my patience in every way. Unlike Tree of Life, which equally bored me in the cinema but I can't deny that how I enjoyed the boredom that Tree of Life gave, it was like a meditation experience in cinema. Since I first saw it in 2012, I remember Tree of Life as a boring yet meaningful journey. And I just appreciate that film more and more each time I revisited. Luckily Boyhood didn't won that "widely" expected Oscar best picture. Because we all need, a much more better crafted, meaningful, socially relevant coming-of-age story won the ultimate prize, and that just came 2 years later.
  23. One of the great contribution of North by Northwest is making me realise that Mount Rushmore isn't that big as illustrated by many photo cover
