Tenet's Friday up 41% from Thursday. Week-to-week decline about 47-48%. Not as bad as I worried looking at those mid-week number. It is possible to have less than 50% 2nd week drop.

I seriously doubt that 800m breaking even point. Both A star is born and joker have about 110-120m P&A, which was substantially inflated by their Oscar campaign. I doubt Tenet P&A can be much higher than those figure from ASIB and Joker since majority of the outdoor events got cancelled. Lastly, WB demand 63% of the box office share in USA, which could offset further the cost. Unless china made 50% of the gross, the 800m point is highly unlikely, 600m-650m is a more reasonable range.

If people still refuse to believe so, I can show them how easy I can find those pirated version after it released digitally. I found Irishman in great quality just two days after its Netflix debut. If that is the case for a mid-tier film (in term of mass appeal) , Mulan would be even more so.

I think Tenet has a shot at another BP nomination for Nolan , 82% RT score with 7.29/10 rating is already good enough for the line-up. Plus, most of the contender debut during the major film festival. Last year,7 out of 9 nominees have their debut and buzz built during film festival, including joker. In 2018, 5 out of 8 was film festival player before they roll into Oscar. This year, the buzz from film festival circuit will likely weaker due to the capacity control with Cannes cancelled. This will give regular theater player more space for the competition. Plus, WB has been known for pushing their blockbuster into Oscar field, see gravity, mad max, dunkirk, a star is born, joker. I am sure they will leverage on cinema saviour narrative for Nolan's Oscar campaign. Dune will be biggest competition for tenet in term of blockbuster player.

But none of them making significant headline buzz like Tenet, not even match to Netflix own Marraige Story. Once they know Dune still has part 2 to go, they will just give technical award to Dune

The numbers are a triumph on the highly-anticipated Warner Bros title which bows in the U.S., China and other markets this coming week and will see further international box office rollout through September. The Tenet figures are better than pre-weekend projections, which were already difficult to call given this is the first major Hollywood movie to release in the pandemic era — amid an unstable landscape that features varying capacity restrictions and recent coronavirus spikes in some areas. As we began to glean over the weekend, and as we wrote on Saturday (see below), momentum was building towards a bow at $40M+, so this is a very encouraging and promising debut, particularly for a director whose films tend to leg out. Suffice to say, there is joy in Burbank today, as well as for other studios and exhibition in general who were all on Tenet-erhooks leading into this release — it’s a positive sign for the theatrical business. The total IMAX portion of the box office is $5M from from only 248 screens in 38 markets. The per-screen average was $20K. The full IMAX weekend represents 9.4% of the total. This is by far the biggest late August international box office weekend ever for IMAX. joke aside I don't think it is too much to pay close attention to 2nd hold because that is what WB betting on. If 2nd week hold is fantastic and tenet just leg it out from there , it would be victory for WB and Nolan, their strategy to focus on long run worked. 50m international number with 4x hold like what Unhinged did will give 200m alone from the existing market.

Drop 19% from Saturday. A bit harsh considering Saturday's up was not very awesome, from now on it will be all about legs. If SK managed to contain the resurgence just like last time, this should have some mild drop like less than 30%
