  1. I don't think that this will make over $100m dom like some are predicting. It's not going to appeal to the widest audience possible.
  2. I predict that Moana's "How Far I'll Go" will win this. None of La La Land's songs stand out to me.
  3. Where did you hear that? I've heard of those rumors before, but it turned out that someone misheard something that Phil Johnston said in an interview. Are there new rumors?
  4. Moonlight is playing in RPX in some theaters: http://www.fandango.com/Regal-Atlantic-Station-18-IMAX--RPX_AATSJ/theaterpage Wish I could have been there.
  5. I think it can even get some mainstream press as well. Might stick out from all those other Oscar contenders.
  6. It's a set in stone rule! Only exception is Taxi Driver, which doesn't count for some reason.
  7. Here's the source: http://variety.com/2016/film/asia/japan-animation-sensation-your-name-funimation-north-america-1201901838/ I still doubt that it's going to get an Oscar nom.
  8. I have a feeling that Toy Story 4 is going to have an awkward making of story. That rumor specified a "beloved series", btw.
  9. "Member when The Incredibles was in theaters?" "Uh, kinda..."
  10. I think it's going to end up around $350m. On par with the big PG animated blockbusters that came this year.
  11. What people? Fanboys on the internet? We're not talking about a Star Wars level phenomenon here.
  12. I'd guess so. It's just one guy, Justin Hurwitz writing the music, so I think they will not count the score as original.
  13. Why not? Especially when ticket prices will be a little higher two years from now.
  14. Interesting. I wonder if Toy Story 4 is in serious trouble, though.
  15. OK, but they are still interested in movies. If Wreck-It Ralph has a sequel confirmed, I don't see how Zootopia will not have one.
  16. Yay! The dubs for Akira suck, btw. Find the original Japanese trailer here: This is one of the few Japanese animated features to do voice acting before animation.
  17. The Chinese market can absolutely have a $300m/$400m animated movie, especially in the future. It wouldn't even break The Mermaid's record. I don't think Zootopia is a bad investment either, just going by ticket sales. You can say people forgot it, but it was an unknown before it debuted in March.
  18. Yep, I think that's what did it. Zootopia tapped into a genre popular with Chinese audiences, similar to the Kung Fu Panda movies.
