  1. I randomly watched this movie because one of my younger siblings noticed it was at the discount theater and wanted to go. I haven't watched any of the Avengers movies or the previous Captain America movies, so a lot of this movie was incomprehensible to me. I didn't even know the names of quite a few characters, and I still don't know why or who was fighting at the beginning of the movie. Overall, I guess this is a B. I don't like the casual gun violence in PG-13 movies because it glamorizes murder, and I didn't appreciate the dumb quips in the middle of otherwise serious moments.
  2. I've just realized that I might not see a new release in cinemas until November because my schedule of school and part-time work is too tight to allow for many visits to the inconveniently located multiplexes. Then I got to thinking: How many people here have gone on dry spells with movies?
  3. Well, it's a pretty big amount of seats, but I don't think it's out of the ordinary for what's anticipated.
  4. Seat count for Saturday, July 28th 2016 rank seats shows avg seats theat screens % of overall market *1 529152 1753 301.9 229 348 65.8% シン・ゴジラ (Shin Godzilla) *2 474450 1923 246.7 227 344 66.0% ONE PIECE FILM GOLD *3 369670 1707 216.6 232 360 64.4% ファインディング・ドリー (Finding Dory) *4 193353 1196 161.7 217 306 70.9% ターザン:REBORN (The Legend of Tarzan) *5 148297 *969 153.0 226 360 62.8% ポケモン・ザ・ムービー XY&Z 2016(Pokemon 2016) This is a bit different from Friday. It looks like One Piece Film Gold has lost a few seats, and Shin Godzilla has expanded to some theaters outside of the sample, going by the % of market number. Also, The Legend of Tarzan has a nice amount of seats. http://mimorin2014.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-12654.html
  5. No, that was Ice Age 5. And I was talking about all movies. Only one movie had an increase above 30%, and a2knet suggested that the drops on Wednesday might be smaller than they usually are. That does not seem to be the case.
  6. There go the hopes that Wednesday would compensate for the weak Tuesday.
  7. Films are usually released on Saturdays. Shin Godzilla is an exception.
  8. Well, keep in mind that opening weekends in Japan go into the record books based on their two-day total. Saturday and Sunday. I think that ¥1 billion over a three day span might be possible, though.
  9. No, I think Friday is going to be bigger than what you're implying.
  10. Yes, there are quite a few that do. Might not be as common as it is in Canada, though.
  11. Right now, I think we might see a ¥700m Saturday+Sunday total for Shin Godzilla. Of course, the movie is actually opening on Friday, which is uncommon in Japan.
  12. Hey, I'm happy that Sing is going to premier at the Toronto International Film festival. It's a savvy way to not only get publicity for the movie but also to legitimize studio animated features.
  13. This just shows the amount of available seats for Godzilla. I'm not sure what will happen on Saturday.
  14. lol, no one thinks Sing is going to be nominated for Best Picture. And why can't the top 12 DOM be at least $285 million?
  15. Maybe word of mouth was so bad that people would only take a chance when they could get discounted tickets. Or maybe it's an just an outlier.
  16. Nerve didn't bite into anything. $1 million doesn't cause a shift for the entire box office.
  17. Holy shit at that Ice Age 5 increase.
  18. @mahnamahna Continuing the question from the Monday thread: I checked box officemojo, and Shark Tale was not in the top 10 when Spongebob debuted. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2004-11-19 So Monday really might have been the first time 4 movies in the top 10 were animated. And one of them was R-rated!
  19. Is this the first time 4 animated films have been in the top 10? Question asked by the blog cartoon brew.
