  1. I think this can make $170m domestic. Same general date as Hotel Transylvania and it will be more than two months since the last cutsey CGI flick. No, Kubo is not CGI. And it doesn't look that cutesy either.
  2. Well, he agrees with the tomatometer 74% of the time. Not exactly the highest it could be.
  3. They warned me about Faraci when his Zootopia review came out. It was fresh, of course. I guess he's just a boogeyman.
  4. It's at least partly due to the Brexit. The pound and the euro aren't as valuable as they used to be.
  5. The trend around the world seems to be that Finding Dory does less in foreign markets than Finding Nemo did. $140m from those three markets is no cakewalk.
  6. It's going to be have to be at least ¥6.4 billion big. That's no guarantee for The Jungle Book.
  7. I need it to stay the same because right now it's 100% correct for me.
  8. I wouldn't say that they're overly optimistic. Last weekend, the studios underestimated their movies. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?view=studioest&yr=2016&wknd=29&p=.htm
  9. Well, a lot of those movies were made when passing $1 billion was a rare occurrence. I don't think you can blame China, considering that Toy Story 3, Frozen and Minions got past that mark without China.

  11. Uh, Moana isn't even out yet, so why are you assuming that?
  12. That Saturday for Star Trek is going to make a lot of people here happy.
  13. Outside of Jurassic World, was it much better last summer?
  14. A+ A new addition to my top 10 movies of all time. When the movie started, I thought I might only appreciate it on an intellectual level. I thought the narration was corny and the acting was hackneyed. However, once Norma Desmond appears on screen, the movie really gets started. This character is a screen icon, but not for the reasons she would understand. And knowing many of these characters are played by real-life counterparts, like an actual silent film star Gloria Swanson playing Desmond, makes the film seem immediate and relevant even 60 years later. The film is suspenseful even if it gives away the climax at the beginning! Quite an accomplishment.
  15. According to this: http://mimorin2014.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-12572.html It has a 35.7% drop from last Saturday. I think there will be another big bump on Sunday, as theaters were overwhelmed by One Piece fans in Japan yesterday. If it has a 70% overall weekend-to-weekend drop, it could be around ¥535m for Saturday+Sunday.
