  1. Some of these movies weren't even finished in 4K. With normal viewing distances, you're not gonna see a difference unless you have an absolutely giant TV or projector (100" or up).
  2. Raiders of the Lost Ark. Star Wars is gonna win, so I'll go Jaws. All-Spielberg showdown.
  3. If it doesn't sound appealing, don't read it. I didn't think it was any sort of masterpiece, but it was entertaining and a fun little read.
  4. So #8 is asking if COMPTON will increase on Sunday, right?
  5. It's funny, I didn't even know Simon Kinberg was the one who pushed this project through development -- until I was listening to an extended interview he did with John August at a WGA event. He got the rights, got Drew Goddard involved, and absolutely raved about Goddard's first draft.
  6. BSG Final week All questions pertain to the three day weekend UOS Anyone who has not had individuals, you will have three sets of questions to choose from, choose. Makeups will be posted tomorrow 1) Will Compton win the 4 day? YES 2) Will Transporter win the three day? YES 3) Will A Walk in the Woods make at least 5 million for the three day weekend? YES 4) Will any film drop less than 13% on Monday? YES 5) Will more than 7 films increase on Sunday? NO 6) Will any film increase more than 165% on Friday? YES 7) Will We are your Friends drop more than 40%? YES 8) Will Jurassic World drop less than 15%? NO 9) Will any film drop less than 10%? YES 10) Will Rogue Nation make more than War Room? YES 11) Will Minions drop less than Ant-Man? NO 12) Will any film drop more than 27% on Thursday? YES 10/12 3000 11/12 5000 12/12 7000 What finishes in spots: 1 Straight Outta Compton 2 War Room 5 Transporter: Reduplicated 6 No Escape 10 Ant Man 2000 each spot right 4000 bonus if all 5 right Bonus 1: What will Jurassic World be at WW according to Rentrak, by the time Sunday numbers are released? 10,000 $1,643.553m Bonus 2: What will The Gift make for the 4 day? 10,000 $2.415m Bonus 3: What will the combined weekend 4 day gross be of Hitman, Compton and Uncle? 10,000 $19.674m
  7. I can't argue specifics and absurdities, because I haven't seen the movie. First draft, though? Nice.
  8. Again, which draft, though? The draft that sold (and got various people excited about the project) almost certainly isn't the one floating around. And "issues" can be mysterious, intangible things. Nothing is ever a slam dunk, and no one's infallible when it comes to reading (or writing) something on the page and then having it go pear-shaped somehow... even with the best of intentions. There are almost always re-writes on production, whether for basic practical reasons or to rework scenes or sequences. And sometimes people have a good grasp that things are going wrong, and they're simply unable to fix them; or the powers that be might not want them fixed because they like them (for whatever reason). (Think Jon Peters and his giant spider.) We tend to think in very black-and-white terms but in almost every situation, the creative reality of productions is a giant mess of gray. I've gotten more and more reluctant to assign any sort of blame without specific insider knowledge.
  9. This is a very common assumption (and one I used to make all the time), but it's actually not necessarily true. The final movie can (and often is) dramatically different than the development script (whichever draft Smith read before he signed on). Without reading the various drafts (and even beyond that, the notes given throughout the process), we don't really have a way of knowing who's at fault for all the movie's flaws.
  10. Sorry, I'm being pedantic, but how do you know the issues were right there in the script?
  11. I know what I'm buying baumer for Christmas...
  12. It's still in prep, but the lines between pre-pro, production, and post are really blurred when it comes to mo-cap movies.
  13. Will I have a comedy from the 21st century on my list? Hmmm.....
  14. It was "scored" by some dude named Beethoven.
  15. Perhaps not surprisingly, I disagree with Goffe. It's a reasonably solid adaptation of Rice's famous first book, and even the stunt casting of Cruise works far better than anyone could've expected.
