Feel like this thread has caused more discourse than just letting The Marvels thread die out naturally. It's always someone bitching about wokeness or the same whether or not Marvel is dying and “this bad sign isn't actually a bad sign”. At least then, they'd get threadbanned in a matter of time or would be pivoted with information in another Marvel thread.

Yeah they did but never really dug any of those romance besides Steve and Peggy. Pepper has not been interesting since IM3, though Jane’s relationship with Thor was sweet never wowed me and who even knows with Betty. Star Lord x Gamora was probably their best but the Russos fumbled it, T’Challa x Nakia was also the start of something new but sadly Boseman passed, Evangeline Lily is probably the most boring MCU character and Peter x MJ while cute puppy love pales in comparison to Peter and Mary Jane in the Raimi movies, Peter x Gwen in the ASM movies and even Miles x Gwen in the SpiderVerse movies because MJ like every other non Avenger in Peter’s MCU life is basically a prop for Peter to interact with rather than a fleshed out character. Wanda x Vision was excellent but that's in part of WandaVision doing the heavy lifting.

I imagine the X-Men movie would be co-lead by Cyclops and Jean, like @TwoMisfits characters who both got fucked over in movies. Don't expect them to do this because Feige is allergic to romance in Marvel CBMs since even the Infinity Saga but I think diving into the romance and messiness of relationships of the X-Men would help seperate it from the rest of the CBMs and tbh most tentpoles and could attract females more easily, if the leads have strong chemistry.

4M is pretty great

Can't help but feel Sinister is being chosen because both Feige and Iger are gutless at tackling the political themes that X-Men is fundamentally about. That said Sinister is a nice change of pace and is pretty cool as a villain. Do hope they still put in Magneto in other installments because he's a key component to the story.

Glad Majors was found guilty. Fuck abusers. Tbh think they can just pivot from Kang and just try 838 vs 616/whatever the fuck universe MCU is. Doom is a goated villain and they shouldn't rush him although Doom is a big part of Secret Wars the comic, think The Beyonder (maybe they can bring back Laurence Fishburne for it) as the villain and the 838 Illuminati as antagonists who are pissed at Wanda and Strange fucking up their universe could be an interesting angle.

Though I do think that yes DeCosta got a raw deal with it being clear Iger and Feige are/will throw her under the bus rather than the fact 23 projects in 2 years with only a few raves and the rest being mediocre to bad reception wise is enough to halt a hype machine and maybe their current formula is flawed and that the main cast did get a raw deal (it's telling that only Samuel stood up for Brie when Feige and company were willing to go to war over Scorsese and Pratt), but the key difference is: Wonka costed half as much and has far stronger WOM and staying power than The Marvels. It will break even whereas Marvels won't. This shit was annoying when they bought KoTFM and Napoleon into it vs The Marvels some odd months ago, because yes both are bombs but those were made for the purpose of streaming and accolades and for their genre well KOTFM at least did very respectable numbers. The Marvels is part of a multi billion dollar franchise with a 1.1B predecessor.

Lil Mabu and the Chocolate Factory was really cute. On paper, think softening Willy Wonka - the known sardonic prick takes a lot of bite out of the movie and I think that's a lot why my family barring me ranged from mixed to despised and I do think the sweetness of the movie is in some ways a weakness. Make no mistake, I knew going in this would be more akin to the Paddington movies. Think 200m should happen but not sure on 250m - think the hidden musical aspect is a big reason why the A- and a big reason why my family barring me mixed/disliked it. I highly enjoyed it though! The movie’s optimistic outlook though a bit too sweet manages to won me over, and it also helps that its quite funny and the musical numbers (one though is kind of suspect, reminding me of a similar one in Wish) are well done with the third act almost getting me in tears. Chalamet does well as Cinnamon Roll Wonka (though I think Holland might have a similar effect, think Chalamet highlights his sweetness), and Peterson Joseph is excellent and Key was by far the funniest but found myself thoroughly enjoying newcomer Lane as Noodle, who's wit and preservance is very admirable. If you can accept Wonka’s new and different recipe, Wonka’s sweet tale will delight you.
