  1. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/hunger-games-steven-soderbergh-gary-ross-230419 Did as a favour for Gary Ross. John Lee Hancock did reshoots of Maleficent apparently but that could've been just a rumour
  2. I suspect cast availability was the main reason. WB does have a habit of shooting films 18 months to 2 years before release like Tarzan, BvS, Edge of Tomorrow etc or in the case of Jungle Books: Origins it'll be three years. Gary Ross is a solid director and I wouldn't be surprised if Soderbergh ends up second unit directing like he did on The Hunger Games.
  3. I assume it'll be picked up by local distributors soon or even a big studio like Universal especially if it's an awards contender
  4. It would have faced Live by Night on that date which is a similar target audience. February probably would have been better but TBH it was never going to do huge business. Speaking of Monster Trucks, it's being released in the UK three weeks earlier than the US. I assume it's been moved forward to avoid Sing which has a January release in the UK and Lego Batman in February but it likely going to get lost between Rogue One, Passengers etc
  5. It was recently shown at the BFI Film Festival but I don't think it has a UK distributor yet. Hopefully it will soon as it could quite well in the art cinemas.
  6. American Made which stars Cruise was in that slot before it moved to September 29th 2017. I doubt Jack Reacher would have done much better in January and Monster Trucks is a dump release which has already lost money.
  7. Inferno was always going to do better OS than domestic as the previous films were OS hits. The budget means it can do less than $100m domestic but still be profitable.
  8. Five day opening compared to the three and a half day opening Never Go Back had and it opened over Christmas.
  9. Sully finally cracked $120m, I wonder if it's got enough to get to $130m? I think it'll miss that but it'll get to $125m easily. The OS run isn't finished yet so I think it can reach $80-90m for a $205-215m WW gross, $100m OS is doable but it depends on how well it fares in Germany, France and the UK
  10. That's very good for Jack Reacher, Trolls did very well as well even excluding previews, Trolls and Storks will benefit from half term. It'll be interesting how Doctor Strange does, it has a Tuesday opening so I'm thinking £7-8m for the six day opening, Thor: The Dark World did £8.65m three years ago with a five day opening but that was a sequel. Ant-Man did over £5m and Guardians did over £6m on its opening.
  11. I wonder if Paramount will consider a third Jack Reacher, they're lacking in franchises and inexpensive to make but I imagine they'd be fine not making another one, I suspect this one was only made so Cruise would commit to another Mission Impossible
  12. Not to mention the OW is better than the first although it won't have the same legs because it's October rather than Christmas. If Cruise wasn't in it, it wouldn't do nearly as well
  13. I really want him to do more roles like Les Grossman and Stacee Jaxx which were so out of character for him that they worked, he can be funny as evident in Mission Impossible and Knight and Day so I'm surprised no director has approached him to do a more mainstream comedy.
  14. Cruise needs to do an Oscar bait film if he has a shot of being nominated, American Made is a thriller but I doubt it's Oscar bait
  15. As great as Cruise is as an action star, I do think he should branch out and do something different, American Made from the premise sounds promising and different from the action films he's done in the last five years
  16. The franchise isn't going away since CBS has Star Trek Discovery coming next year so fans will have their Trek fill even if no films come out for another few more years.
  17. It's quoted as $60m according to The LA Times. $90m could include marketing as well as I doubt Paramount would increase the budget since the first was a modest hit at best
  18. The budget for Jack Reacher is the same as the first one so I imagine it'll at least break even for Paramount.
  19. http://variety.com/2016/film/news/willy-wonka-new-movie-david-heyman-warner-bros-1201894143/ I'm not too sure about it and I'm surprised the Dahl estate is willing to let WB do something that isn't based on any of the books. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been successful for WB with the musical, the 2005 film etc but the point of Wonka was that he was eccentric and nobody knew about his past. Hopefully David Heyman who had success with Potter, Paddington and Gravity can make it work.
  20. The first Jack Reacher was a modest hit, it didn't warrant a sequel but I suspect Paramount greenlit it so that Cruise would do another Mission Impossible
  21. I really liked this, it's not as good as The Lego Movie but it's a solid, very funny film. The Lego Ninjago short was very good was well, bodes well for the upcoming film
  22. Saw Inferno and it's on par with Angels and Demons, it's incredibly stupid in terms of plot but it's a fun ride and Hanks is good as always as Langdon.
  23. Sony are distributing Arrival in most places apart a handful of countries like the UK and Australia where it's being handled by eOne and Village. I suspect the budget for the film has already been recouped from the presales and Sony, Paramount and the local distributors will be handling just P&A and distribution so really everyone will make money. Universal have had a mixed year but Pets and Bridget Jones have really done great for them and Central Intelligence did well for them OS, Sing should be a hit for them as well.
  24. Miss Saigon did really well beating Storks actual three day figures and wasn't far off from Trolls' weekend previews. I imagine a film adaptation would do solid business when it ever gets released
