    23rd March would have meant facing the Hunger Games. My theory is that Universal didn't want to compete with The Pirates! It's not going to do as well in the summer especially with Ice Age in July and Brave in August.Contraband seems to be getting a lot of advertising as is Hunger Games, there hasn't been any for either John Carter or 21 Jump Street. Wrath of the Titans and Pirates! I imagine we'll see ads within the next week or two.

    Illumination has produced another hit for Universal. They do seem to produce decent films without spending big bucks unlike Dreamworks and Pixar. It'll make money from the US release alone and should fare decently OS. I do hope The Pirates! can break out but Aardman have a patchy record domestically although they thrive OS especially in the UK.

    TMW isn't great, I still Universal missed a trick not scheduling The Lorax day and date as the US as it would have easily done over £2m. I imagine Wanderlust did poorly as well. Think Safe House and OBEMH will have small drops.

    It's an improvement on Jack and Jill but then anything an improvement on that film. The final scene with the dress was funny.

    Thor did well considering the character isn't as well known, Captain America did £2.9m but that was three days.The Hunger Games should do well, think it'll gross £3-4m, I expect the big grosses will come when Catching Fire is released but I happily be proved wrong. Wrath of The Titans should have a big OW and if The Pirates! is as good as I think it will be it, it should do £3-4m five days but have long legs.

    Anyone got predictions of what The Avengers may get on its four day weekend? I'm thinking £7-8m which is in line with Iron Man and Iron Man II, £10m would be nice but I don't expect it. It has the advantage of hardly any May competition until MIB3 so it could dominate.

    Kermode is a good reviewer and not as snobby as some critics. One of his favourite fillms is Mary Poppins and he liked High School Musical 3 explaining that it did what it said on the tin.

    Has Mommy and Me even started shooting yet, I guess it'll be rescheduled to August 2013 as comedies tend to do well then.

    John Carter will be number 1 although not seen much hype for it. Think The big March releases will be The Hunger Games, Wrath of the Titans and The Pirates!The Muppets has done great business despite the stiff competition from WIB. Disney will be pleased if it hits £15-16m total which is very good for a family film without 3D. I'm sort of surprised with the lack of animated and family films, Universal missed a trick not releasing The Lorax in March,

    The Muppets and WIB dropped heavily but WIB still managed to hold on despite competition from Safe House and TBEMH. Competition next week is This Means War and Wanderlust with TMW being slightly inflated due to previews on Valentine's Day, think WIB will be number 1 again.

    This is the second week in a row where the gap between the films has been extremely close. Will be interesting to see how The Muppets did.

    Can't believe that Safe House and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel were neck and neck, think Safe House will be number 1 but TBEMH did extremely well.

    I would have thought Safe House would do quite well, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel I imagine will be top five, think it'll more of a weekday performer than a weekend performer, I do want to see it, it has a strong cast. I imagine The Muppets will have a small drop this weekend, it's on its way to £15-16m total.

    MI5 I think at the earliest December 2014 or Summer 2015 which would be relatively quick considering that they tend to have a 4-6 year gap between each film but Paramount need to lock down Cruise and get him to commit so they can film in 2013/2014, I imagine he'll get a bump in his pay, I believe he took a cut for GP.

    Its achievable given the lack of family films until Easter. Would love it to hit £20m but that's not likely. Had a feeling The Muppets would do well in the UK.

    The Muppets increased massively! Looking good for £15-16m and it was only £90,000 behind WIB. Safe House will likely knock WIB off the top spot. Best Exotic Marigold Hotel should have a top five position.

    Looks like The Muppets increased as well, should have good legs considering there's no family competition until The Pirates! is released.

    Paramount are developing a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the last movie which was CGI was decent although I reckon this one will be live action/CGI hybrid, think the idea to have actors with suits performing the stunts and replacing the face with CGI which they did in Where the Wild Things Are.

    Wonder how The Vow did on Valentine's Day, imagine it was the choice for many couples. I imagine The Muppets would have done great in the mornings and afternoons but not so well in the Evening.

    Journey 2 is doing well in most countries, even its domestic OW wasn't too bad at $27m which was better than the original plus in a non summer month as well. I imagine Journey 3 will be either From the Earth to the Moon or 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.

    Streetdance was an unexpected surprise, I just don't expect Streetdance 2 to do as well against Titans and Pirates!As for The Lorax, I don't get why it's being delayed until summer either.

    Looking at the upcoming new releases, I think March is going to be a busy month. John Carter should debut well £3-4 OW, The Hunger Games £3-4m OW perhaps higher, The Pirates! should be a hit over the Easter Holiday given it's pretty much the only kids film at Easter, £4-5m five days and Wrath of the Titans should do well £5-6m OW. There's also Streetdance 2 but I can't see that doing well as the competition is much tougher this time and also 21 Jump Street which should do okay.

    The Vow should do well on Valentine's Day as should The Woman in Black. Will be interesting how the This Means War previews do although they won't be counted until the film's released in two weeks .I never go to the cinema on Wednesdays simply because its too busy unless there's a film I really want to see.

    The Muppets did well, it wasn't too far behind WIB, should do well this week. The Vow did okay but I expect it'll have good weekdays and do strong business Valentines Day.

    Muppets will do better business during next week being the only one of three family films, WIB did very well and not surprising considering it's a known title and it starred Daniel Radcliffe. Star Wars keep in mind was released a day earlier so The Vow could have beaten it Friday-Sunday, it'll do strong business on Valentine's Day.Next week is Ghost Rider Spirit of Vegeance and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, think WIB will repeat number 1 but it wouldn't surprise if The Muppets goes to number 1 next week.
