This would never interest audience under 25. If the studio thought that over-emphasizing Halle Bailey in promos was going to draw TLM crowd they miscalculated badly. The concept isn't for younger people and considering what happens in the movie I don't know why WB went after the church crowd either. 'A' CS aside, WOM must be pretty bad if even the demo didn't bother to carry it. It's a rejection through and through Xmas Day aside.

Mean Girls and Beekeeper are another proof that counter-programing works. One movie for the girls, one movie for the boys and boxoffice thrives. Not saying that this is a mini Barbenheimer (Beegirls? Meankeeper?) but it's certainly working. Also as other noted, strong year for adult movies. Ofc that nothing will be Oppenheimer ( almost 1B for a 3 hrs long talky) but platform releases are doing really well. Poor Things will pass The Favorite cause it's already running ahead of it if you compare money they made on comparable dates. They play in similar number of theaters now and PT's hold is much better than what TF had for MLK weekend. Aqauaman 2 didn't collpase dom or OS which is also good. Passed The Flash despite The Flash testing better than TDK and A2 testing worse than The Flash actual reception.

This. I've never seen Heaven's Gate but I know that it was the biggest bomb of all times that killed a studio, cause whenever something bombs really big they say it's so and so's Heaven's Gate. Golden Compass was New Line Cinea's Heaven's Gate cause it killed the studio. Norbit was Eddie Murphy's Heaven's Gate cause it lost him the Oscar for Dreamgirls. So now The Marvels is the new iconic bomb that will give Heaven's Gate a well deserved retirement.

Nah, people are obsessed with the biggest bombs just like they are obsessed with the biggest hits. So you hear about both a lot. I still remember the time when Marvel rereleased Endgame to beat Avatar. And then Avatar got a rerelease to beat Endgame. Likewise, we are always on a lookout for what's gonna bomb worse than the previous biggest bomb. This year was quite productive in that regard.

Just want to point out that we downplay Powell in ABY's success. Was flipping streaming channels and saw that some movie of his I've never heard of is #2 on Netflix coattailing Netflix release of TGM and ABY in theaters. So while concept is the king - Madam Web looks worse than Morbius so doubtful Sweeney can polish that turd - right actors in the right concept are added value.

Platform releases are holding well too. I said yesterday that Poor Things was going to outgross TCP this weekend and now we know it beat it on Friday. From half the theaters. Without exaggeration TCP is competing with The Marvels and The Flash for the worst theatrical run. Maybe stop putting The in the title? Funny and brilliant.

TCP and MG have the same problem (pro tip: it isn't musical). They are remakes of stone cold classics. Both Spileberg's TCP and original MG are iconic. Everyone knows Fetch. A remake of an iconic movie has an uphill battle. It has to be as good or better and even then people may not want to pay again for something they've seen 1000 times, just because it now has different cast (that they may not like) and somewhat different take (ditto). That is also why Wonka didn't suffer from musical bait and switch. It wasn't Charlie&the Chocolate Factory remake but a prequel, a "new" thing.

Naomi Ackie can't catch a break. Don't know who she was in her previous life but how can one actress have such a bad karma? Cast in Star Wars so you think big break. But TROS was such (T)POS that they are unlikely to ever revisit her character. Then cast in GOT spinoff Blood Moon, but after HBO sunk 30M in the pilot, it got cancelled and locked in a vault that even GRRM never saw it. To add insult to the injury, the other spinoff HOTD took off spendidly. Lands the plum role as Whitney Houston only for Sony to dump the movie without much promotion even though Ackie got great reviews and they out it in the holiday season. And now this.

Speaking of Spideys that was the only question she was asked by the reporters after her Golden Globe win. Was she coming back?
