  1. There was still just 3 Iron man movie and 3 Wolverine movie I think (could be wrong about this) during all that time. That why I had 3 Deadpool being the expected amount in mind.
  2. People not being able to see it in the first weekend because there would not have any seat left, that was a real thought in 2015.
  3. I am a bit surprised by someone that has the capacity to project even short term the world were comcast buy part of Fox vs Disney and estimate which is better, I would not even know how to start with this......... 60 Billion of asset is a lot to wrap one brain around.
  4. I think one difference between the 2, there was some weird fear of not being able to watch TFA if you would not pre-buy well in advance your tickets, even talk of Disney needing to talk to people that they can still go buy ticket without problem that weekend. And didn't they play the movie 24 hours unstop in some place ? That will not happen this time people realized you cannot really come close to max out a weekend now a day with that many screens.
  5. The fact people talk as if Catwoman/Electra/Supergirl was never made does give credit to this statement quite a bit
  6. Was is not mostly true under Ike reign ? https://wikileaks.org/sony/emails/emailid/121981 From: iperl@marvel.com Michael, As we discussed on the phone, below are just a few examples. There are more. Thanks, Ike 1. Electra (Marvel) – Very bad idea and the end result was very, very bad. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=elektra.htm 2. Catwoman (WB/DC) - Catwoman was one of the most important female character within the Batmanfranchise. This film was a disaster. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=catwoman.htm 3. Supergirl – (DC) Supergirl was one of the most important female super hero in Superman franchise. This Movie came out in 1984 and did $14 million total domestic with opening weekend of $5.5 million. Again, another disaster. Best, Ike I mean the first one will be made after 20 entries (will still be less than 5% of the output, how much less would it take to say they were not interested... ? Would it have taken 25 movies in a row without one female lead to start to say they were not interested, 30 ? if 20 is not enough). Shane Black went on record to say the Marvel Toy department made him change the gender of a female character (not even the hero) in is script to male fearing an impact on the toy sales and he is one of the most powerful writer in the business making the movie of is personal friend RDJ, imagine what it was like for a more nobodies that would have pitch a female lead.....
  7. I imagine that is base in apple ability to sell you the song you just shazame (that will be asking Siri what is playing right now ? I imagine)....
  8. If the deal take a year to go through the legal phase and be approved and then Fox run a year or 2 during the transition (i.e. 2 others Deadpool movie already made) or long could they go with that sticks anyway ? 3 Deadpool movie seem a good amount of them already, him shifting to one MCU movie making a metajoke about it and that would be 4 movies already, would it be much money left after all that ?
  9. Outside Hulk they pretty much had access and made movies to mostly unknown character to world audience anyway no ?, I knew nothing about all the others. Except Thor but he was known via the mythology and not Marvel.
  10. Really not sure how to read those comscore talked about movie metrics, but is Jurassic World number for the week it released is first trailer worrisome ? Or they are just too hard to interpret and not even that valid to start with ?
  11. I cannot find it, but David Poland on twitter is often posting since at least early 2016 that all but 2 studios were on the possible selling block and could realistically move (not just sony/paramount and obviously Warner that was rumored since 2014)
  12. Maybe, but one thing that would be a massive surprise to see Spielberg do is a disjointed mess, he can do boring for sure, but it seem impossible for him to do something messy. He pretty much still cut in camera and do the rough cut on set every night and does not find is movies in the editing room (it is not that recent that him and is team even use an Avid computer instead of traditional editing by cutting actual film, I think Tintin was is first digitally edited movie). We can assume it will be solid clear easy to follow storytelling.
  13. I think it can (depending of exchange rate obviously). Avatar made 1.340 billion in 2010 With the current exchange rate avatar would need 6.62 billion a growth of 494% in 2020. That is a "just" a 17.3% annual (compounded) growth on that time frame, has of now much smaller than the Chinese market growth: The ridiculous growth stopped in 2016/2017 a bit but 2017 is expected to have a close to 17% growth again and it is still expected to be the world biggest market by 2020, over the 2020 US domestic market. With Star wars doing close to 1 billion in the 2015 domestic market and Wolf Warrior 2 already close to that 6.6 billion with 5.7 in 2017 in China, it is hard to imagine how it would be impossible for Avatar 2 to reach 1 billion in a bigger than 11 billion a year China 2020 market. Depending of how it will continue Avatar 2 will need to do maybe 70-75% of the first in market share to reach it.
  14. According to the Marvel contract (if it was not updated since) Sony does not have the right to do a spiderman movie under a 75m dollar budget, first Cloudy movie was 116m net the second one was 80m net. Animated movie tend to cost a lot and that seem to have developed a bit of something, that group Produced by Will Allegra ... executive producer Avi Arad ... executive producer Kevin Feige ... executive producer Stan Lee ... executive producer Phil Lord ... executive producer Christopher Miller ... executive producer Amy Pascal ... executive producer Christina Steinberg ... producer Does not come cheap. I would imagine at least 90m if not more.
  15. That why the stake often need to be something else we always know the heroes will succeed and survive.
  16. That was sure to be the case imo, movie pass were mostly bough by the frequent movie goers (the 14 movie a year type group) they always were a bigger proportion of non mainstream movies than mainstream movies. What is the most interesting value and hard to tell is how many of those movie pass ticket would not have been bought otherwise, is it a relevant amount... sentence like those: “realized a further 53.3% increase in ticket purchases for the title against a statistically relevant control group, which was not a part of the marketing campaign.” Last Flag Flying has not been one of Amazon’s successes this season earning less than $1M. Are hard to put in context without looking at the movie they used
  17. Disney failed so many time in video games in the past and they just recently bought one of the most legendary video games studios in Lucas Art and closed it. Licensing their franchise to other video game studio will probably be what they continue to do for a good while, the AAA size of those title they want to have make it hard to do them with a new studio.
  18. I thought 1941 was also one, but in hindsight that it was considered a giant flop look very strange now and that was probably only because it was him, it still did change how spending averse and always doing everything to save money he became for the rest of is career too.
  19. Are some of those code words ?, not sure I understand much of what is said here, is rationale the name of a hacking group ?.
  20. This is a good point, maybe the best compromise to be early enough out there for awards, but best way to take advantages of the Golden Globes + Olympics.
  21. That almost impossible to make it look like he gonna bite, specially when it is the hero and has sequels announced, do anyone in the audience really though even for the smallest second they're was a 0.0001% chance AntMan would die when he went sub atomic or Dr Strange would die ? You can of need a tour de force to achieve (or crazy circumstance like Fast&Furious 7, but Return of the Jedi did it with an extremely solid script mechanism toward the end with 2 parallel story when both seem for the audience they hit bottom at the same time, but no it goes worst for Luke after that, maybe he will die it is possible the galaxy will still be save and it could be the last movie with hi,) or make the stake about something that it is possible the movie will do sometime.
  22. That and Fox news, Fox sports the Fox network and lot of Disney share and probably jobs there.
  23. Hard to say they went a bit of a 180 degree, from trying to buy Time Warner for 80b to selling a lot of the assets in just 3 year's: https://www.theverge.com/2014/8/5/5972427/21st-century-fox-ends-its-80-billion-bid-to-buy-time-warner https://www.theverge.com/2014/7/16/5904407/time-warner-21st-century-fox-takeover-bid-rejection https://dealbook.nytimes.com/2014/07/16/rupert-murdoch-said-to-have-made-offer-for-time-warner/ A feeling that it is the best (and maybe last time off a short windows) to monetize a movie library in a world with a lot of digital buyer, disney, amazon, netflix still competing with traditonal dvd/tv market, if in a decade there is just 2 or 3 of them instead of many, the price could go down. Change of management from him to is sons with different ambition ? Wanting to expend Fox News/Sports segment and be better at it...
  24. Specially that they were bought not wild animals, the accusation is that they were killed just before the shoot specially for the movie, instead of a meat producer that would sold the best part of the meat for consumption and the rest of the carcass for the movie production. There is a difference between the 2 scenario, but a rather small one, almost 100% of animals kill for food in developped country is purely for entertainment (as we simply prefer it to eat something that didn't required killed but is 100% unnecessary and just done because it is more fun to do), watching a movie that killed a cow or eating a steak instead of Tofu, the difference our brain make between the 2 is probably in real logic really slim to none.......
