  1. Movies are too political now. Why can’t we just go back to pre-2014, where entertainment was never ever political? Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are rolling in their graves, even though they’re not dead. Smh
  2. There are no impossible to meet expectations. If the movie delivers on being a crowdpleaser, then people will like it. If critics would be so blinded by their personal feelings on Ezra Miller that they’d give the movie a negative review no matter what, then they shouldn’t be watching it to begin with.
  3. Wasn’t it stated that Marvel was going to try and scale back on their content after the shaky way that Phase Four turned out?
  4. It was just last year when I learned that the reason the Water Tribe in TLA were played by white people was because this guy got his daughter cast as Katara.
  5. A lot of the Avatar memes are about related to the “no cultural impact” argument, and about how much money they’ve made, but honestly, I don’t think that should be seen as a swipe against these films. People like the Avatar movies. The movies have a fans. They just tend to be more casual than Star Wars or Marvel fans.
  6. Props to Sony for being smart enough to realize it wasn’t worth chasing. WB really got screwed up from this.
  7. Of the three sequels Iger announced today, this is the only one that I didn’t roll my eyes at when I heard it. Disney doesn’t really seem to have the best track record with sequels though, so I can’t say I’m expecting much.
  8. I don’t see why the quality of the films in question would be any better under Iger.
  9. Aside from How to Train Your Dragon, all those other movies you mentioned are not exactly beloved by all. The Ice Age franchise in particular was pretty universally seen as bottom of the barrel as far as big studio animated films were concerned. Besides, why would the previous movies having bittersweet endings (which are more or less the same, oddly enough) necessitate the need for sequels?
  10. They could at least choose sequels that would seem slightly less desperate, like Moana 2 or Encanto 2. Frozen and Toy Story feel so played out now.
  11. I don’t think anyone is trying to deny the logic in making these sequels from a financial perspective. It’s just funny that Bob Iger’s master plan to save Walt Disney Animation and Pixar is to make more sequels. I suppose Zootopia 2 at least has some potential (although I’m not getting my hopes up), but making a Toy Story 5 and Frozen 3 is such a painfully cynical corporate move.
  12. They at least used to reserve their uninspired sequels for home video.
  13. I think another potential problem is that the Multiverse Saga may have went too big too soon with NWH. It definitely contributed to people feeling disappointed by MoM.
  14. Marvel isn’t exactly a stranger to movies that look somewhat ugly, for lack of a better term. I like EG, but they could not have chosen a more drab and uninteresting location for the big climactic battle against Thanos.
  15. The early reactions to Eternals were notoriously mixed. It was still a surprise that it ended up being “rotten,” but that was because the MCU had never had a movie score that low with critics before.
  16. It wouldn’t make sense to suddenly have Doctor Doom be the villain of SW, when this entire saga is supposedly setting up Kang. Doom should be the villain of the next saga.
  17. If the MCU falls, that should mean that superhero movies in general don’t have much of a future. I don’t see what could possibly take its place.
