  1. Nope. Theaters was a necessity for a long period of time, they are no longer now. No point in keep paying the middleman. We advocate cutting the middle-man in every field, how is movie industry any different. yeah comp between theatrical gross with Netflix revenue can be said bad comparison, because theaters are getting 50% plus of that theatrical gross. netflix revenue can be compared with theatrical share which studios get and its awful that despite consumer pay $30B for the product of studios, they only get $12B of that. A scenario where consumer pay $20B and studio get $20B is win win scenario.
  2. You really think theaters in West are in any position to ask any such terms? They are soon going to content with15-20% considering Disney is repeatedly saying their approach will be DTC first. Disney had crazy 2019, what did they got? $4.7B in Theatrical & $6.3B in non-theatrical revenue. Netflix is getting $20B, while consumer spending was probably more/par for Disney products. Theaters are just a middle-man, which just may not be required in West. Only leverage theaters have is the business in Asia. Studios will have to make choice between that and OTT revenue in West.
  3. If Disney really wanna check their PA prospects, this is the one they should have done instead of doing two films which weren't really their best bet in first place, especially Raya.
  4. The film seems like a hit in Russia unless it drop weirdly somehow. Probably will gross $9-10M.
  5. LoTR is re-released in many countries recently including Middle East, Australia and Korea. They may be doing it worldwide perhaps.
  6. ¥50M it need to top Endgame, unless Endgame also get its actual updated $2800-2803M. It's not much of money but still a lot. Inception re-release did ¥33M in fairly open market, now there are regular new release, so let's see.
  7. For some reason Five Feet Apart releasing this Friday. Also Avatar re-releasing.
  8. What's with this attitude that whenever there is something like this the discussion always goes, do this movie need China or just limited to China box office. What about the fans who will be denied to watch it in theaters for something as stupid/trivial as this. Mind you more people in China watched Endgame than people in USA. One person's action/views shouldn't affect tens of million desire to do something. A simple thing to do, if this controversy continue till Eternals, will be old fashioned distancing the company from Director's personal view officially.
  9. Bố Già is doing great in weekdays too. After ~₫59B ($2.55M) weekend, ₫24B Monday and Tuesday too looks like ₫17B range, taking it over ₫100B in just 5 days. I guess ₫125-130B by Thursday and may be ₫175-180B at end of 2nd weekend. Avengers: Endgame is highest grosser with ₫285B. Top Grossers in Vietnam Avengers: Engdgame - ₫285B ($12.25M) Cua Lại Vợ Bầu - ₫193B Avengers: Infinity War - ₫189B Mắt Biếc - ₫180B Tiệc Trăng Máu - ₫176B Em Chua 18 - ₫175B Kong: Skull Island - ₫169B Gái Già Lắm Chiêu 3 - ₫165B Hai Phuong - ₫160B The Fate of the Furious - ₫158B First week record is however untouchable at ₫210B, though EG dropped after that for some reason. I remember something something vacation a user mentioned then. Apparently there was national funeral on Friday and Saturday in 2nd weekend and only Sunday film played, which had like 80% occupancy, so.. but still overall total of ₫285B after ₫230B in first 8 days is disappointing.
  10. Wasn't Endgame made an exception to the fact of allowing Hollywood film during May Day week. I remember that being the reason of Infinity War not having day and date release. @Gavin Feng
  11. GvK will open well in India. Trailer was received very well. I am expecting ₹3-4cr in South India, which will be almost what it would have got in normalcy, while around ₹2-3cr in Rest of India probably. That will be ₹5-7cr ($0.7-0.95M) OD. Weekend may be ₹16-25cr ($2.25-3.5M) depending on how the WOM is.
  12. While watching Frozen 2 with majorly kids with their moms, they weren't singing along, but were very vocal on how funny olaf is and how good Elsa is looking. Thankfully no one cried.
  13. Cities of Maharashtra are put on Night curfew so Sooryavanshi ain't releasing till that is resolved. I think the film is probably dead after all these delays. First trailer was awful so not expecting great response either.
  14. Tom & Jerry now ₹6.5cr ($865K) in 17 days. Full run probably ₹8cr or so ($1.05M). Won't say too bad, probably 30% of what it would have done in normalcy.
  15. I suppose we can discuss spoilers now since weekend is over? @Eric and the Last Dragon What were the leaks which were out few days back.
  16. $18M weekend. $3.5M Monday thanks to holiday in Russia. Probably $23.5M or so by Thursday and may be try $10M 2nd weekend.
  17. I don't watch TV and ofc Indian TV is diff from America, but I think TV promos are one of the most important factor of marketing other than anything. But then I did notice that internet promos were down too for almost all films released in last 1 year except TENET which was theatrical release. I guess the feel of getting ready to visit some outdoor place after seeing some promos, makes a lot difference, instead of watching a promo and be like yeah whatever, guess I will watch this video, sitting at my couch/bed too.
  18. I used to rate 9 and 10 few years ago, but then I had few films which were in 8, I know they were great and I loved them, so instead of bumping them up, I made 8 the ceiling. May be I will start rating 9 and 10 for movies like I do for TV shows. Continuing 9 and 10 in TV shows was because I have watched some 50 shows to date, organising them is way easier than 1K plus films. And watching a story and characters for 60-70 hours do get more connection than 2 hours movies. The latter also explain the fact that only 2 movies I had 10/10 were sort of movies in a serialised universe, Infinity War and Deathly Hallows Part 2. Here's how my ratings stack, may be if I started doing 9 & 10, there will have to be all around shift of increasing rating. That is also why I am sticking with 8 as ceiling, something like how many people rate stuff out of 4 instead of 5. IDK what was reasoning behind that, I would like to think it was similar to mine of ceiling the rating point at 8/4.
  19. There is no 9 or 10 when it comes to movies. I do 9 & 10 for TV shows though, GoT & The Office being the only two 10s.
