Weekend Thread (11/12-14) | Eternals 7.82 Fri, Clifford 4.22
Coldbird replied to Eric Loves Rey's topic in Numbers and Data
Why didnt they just call it "Diana"? The normal population does not know what spencer stansd for and the poster is also not clear whats about. But everybody would knew what "Diana" would be about. If you are already milking off a tragedy and the life of somebody than whats the point being so vague about it. -
Shang-Chi was at 11,9m after the second weekend.

Drops around Venom 2, so 2x multiplier?

I will say it again, you have to have to live in a bubble to think rotten tomato critics are not woke enough. Dont know why the author even mentions birds of prey as another example for his argument, if Birds of prey has an 79% rating, atleast choose charlies angels which is at 52%. Though as someone who thinks the MCU is overrated it is kinda cathartic seeing people, even fans, trash the other MCU movies to defend Eternals lmao.

The average of 457m without china is still more than eternals will most likely reach and the budget of Ant-man is 130m and ant-man and the wasp is unclear but definitely under the one of eternals. If Eternals would have costed 150m and would reach 450m it would look different. Also that Eternals does not have china does not mean you can just subtract the china gross from other movies and than argue the profitability is the same. Its still more money that Disney saw than they decided their next steps about Ant-Man and money which Disney wont see for Eternals.

Many movies which didnt get a sequel could have break even at the end, but thats not the goal of studios and i honestly doubt this will be the case for eternals. They want to make money and marvel has 22+movies which did that better than break even with ancillaries and they have a whole lot of franchises/franchises with potential making more.

We will see where it ends and how marvel operates but on its own this are numbers which doom a sequel. Like Edge of tomorrow had an budget of 180m, made 370m and has a big fanbase. No sequel in 7 years. Similiar with Alita, Detective Pikachu and Warcraft with similiar numbers and warcraft/pokemon with an potential extremely big fanbase, you just need to convince going to theaters. They all had 150-180m budget and ended around 400m -/+10%. Bumblebee 2 had an smaller budget and made 470m worldwide, its also not getting a sequel. Nearly all of the audience and critics ratings are better than eternals too. Of course china numbers are making a 1:1 boxoffice comparison hard. But Eternals is a 200m movie, it needs more than 400m to get even its budget back and marvel does not need that movie or franchise.

About germany: Filmstarts has an eternals average userscore of 3,4. Google score is at 3,7 and kino.de score is at 3,8., moviejones is at 6.1 Kino.de has the most scores and an 3,7 average. It has 238 audience ratings. 65 of them are 1 or 2 stars so rotten, this would be 27%. So an audience score of 73%. Venom 2 is above nearly all of the eternals scores. It has an av score of 3,7 an filmstarts, 4,5 at google score and 4,2 on kino.de. The moviejones rating is lower with 5,9. Critical reception seems to be worse atleast from the sites i see an google searches, not gonna do a deep dive on youtube. Wonder Woman 1984 has far as i seen, worse user ratings but an better critical reception than eternals.

The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

75m is dead with this numbers, even with 25m it would need an sub 25% drop to Sunday. -
Scream | January 14, 2022 | Profit of $56.7M
Coldbird replied to cheesypoofs's topic in Box Office Discussion
This is the only one of the "a long time later" sequels which are trendy right now i am actually interested in. I enjoyed all of the scream movies, even though i am not even remotely a horror/slashermovie fan. In descending order 1>2>3>4. But the trailer doesnt really do much for me, dont know if i am gonna watch it in theaters. -
Eternals International Box Office Thread.
Coldbird replied to charlie Jatinder's topic in International Box Office
Venom should be fairly above the MCU properties at the end (even without China), its still has Japan and Australia and some smaller markets to open.
