  1. Really feels like Dune has a hard ceiling when it comes to interest from the general audience.
  2. I never expected positive reviews to do a lot for this film. People already know if they want to see this based on their experience with the first movie. If someone didn't care for the first movie, which also had a pretty high review score, then an additional 10% to the RT score won't move the needle. Basically, everybody who's in was already in a while ago and the same goes for those who plan to sit this one out.
  3. 80M budget + 60M marketing? Movie looks to make 80-90M WW so Sony will end up losing close to 100M on this (if we're just talking theatrical revenue).
  4. I think the superhero fatigue (or whatever you want to call it) we've been seeing the past year is about to catch up with Sony as well. Right now it looks like Madame Web will make only half of what Morbius made WW, If Kraven follows suit and Venom 3 has a sizable drop compared to Venom 2 then maybe someone at Sony realizes they can't keep putting out bottom of the barrel dreck. Basically, Sony needs to find themselves in a position where even their modestly-budgeted (70-100M) Spider-Man spin-offs fail miserably.
  5. In any case, if the intention behind these spin-offs was to just extend the license then they wouldn't put out three in a single year. As @AJG pointed out, the reasoning probably doesn't go beyond "Marvel is a hot property and we need to exploit the Marvel characters we have".
  6. The Sinister Six movie would have been a two-parter titled "The Amazing Spider-Man: Sinister Six" so basically Amazing Spider-Man 3 which would have extended their license.
  7. My read on the current situation is that Sony is trying to rope Holland into being part of their shitty Spider-Man universe and Holland smartly doesn't want to do it and that's what's holding up the next movie.
  8. https://www.npr.org/transcripts/1076531156 So, we can't be 100% sure but it seems like Sony needs to put out actual Spider-Man movies to keep the rights.
  9. I'm not sure the trio of Avi Arad, Amy Pascal and Tom Rothman were smart enough to realize that.
  10. Morbius came out in March and Madame Web started filming in July. By the time Morbius released, there was probably no time time to pull the breaks on Madame Web.
  11. You never watched Stranger Things or the Netflix Punisher series?
  12. So now it makes sense why they were hesitant to showcase the costumes in promo material. Even Sony must have realized that people would have been (even more) mad.
  13. The WW3 story was denied by both Jenkins and Gunn. As for Star Wars, I'm willing to bet that the problem there was Kennedy.
  14. I'm sure she'll get to direct more TV but her movie career is probably over. Look at what happened to Patty Jenkins. She lost all her future projects simply because WW1984 was negatively received and I'm only talking about reviews, box office didn't even come into it because it was released at the height of the pandemic. The moment a female director fucks up (even if they've made successful movies before), they're done.
  15. At that point Sony still had two successes (at least box office wise) with the Venom movies so that probably motivated them to keep going. I think they'll only consider their current approach if both Kraven and Venom 3 tank as well.
  16. makes sense. The first act was directed by Trank, act 2 is when the movie fell apart during production and the third act was a reshoot by Simon Kinberg.
  17. This is S.J. Clarkson's first movie but she's a a real TV veteran (and she's directed shows like the British Life on Mars which looked fantastic) so how is this movie so bad on a technical level?
  18. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like Aquaman and The Marvels made almost the same amount internationally (excluding China). The Marvels WW opening weekend = 109.4M (46.1M domestic + 11.7M China + 51.6 other markets) Aquaman 2 WW opening weekend = 108.2M (28.1M domestic + 30.4M China + 49.7M other markets) So right now even if the movie collapses as badly as The Marvels in both NA and in overseas markets (unlikely with holidays), China alone will guarantee that it will finish above The Marvels.
  19. Not sure about the cinemascore, but this will end up being one of the lowest-rated DCEU movie on RT along with BvS and Suicide Squad.
