    even if Shazam 2 technically loses more money, its failure was set up by Black Adam and the Rock's refusal to be a team player. Also Black Adam did NOT look like a 200 mil movie, most of that must have been Rock's salary. Obviously the stunt didn't work for Black Adam since it was a major part in killing the Snyderverse continuity dead. Having Shazam do something similar was a last ditch strategy because the movie couldn't build buzz to save its life.

    Super Pets isn't really comparable. I think it was the only animated movie that did "okay" last summer (since Bad Guys/Puss had different slots and Lightyear bombed)

    I expect its Thurs. decline to be worse. Wick 4 will kill its adult audience and D&D will take away families BEFORE Mario shows up. Interestingly its IMDB isn't THAT low, but it isn't the level that would actually indicate good enough WOM to save the movie.

    expecting a considerable drop either Wed. or Thurs. because Wick 4 opens. Shazam 2 will get mauled.

    So the D&D early screenings are doing well?

    WB should just dump Shazam on HBO Max sometime in April and be done. Most people aren't going to spend money on a franchise that's very clearly screwed. Also "Black Adam v. Shazam" really should have been Shazam 2. It's hubris to think that's not what the audience would have wanted out of Shazam 2.

    Not so sure about that. The entire run would have to go under something like 75 mil for that. It could have horrible legs and still conceivably get 76 mil from a 30.1 mil OW.

    Message to James Gunn: do NOT ever cast a guy with more clout than the rest of the production team as the series villain AND give him spinoffs when you reboot the universe.

    People on here aren't reckoning with how lousy that first Indy trailer looks. "I don't believe in magic". Yeah, sure buddy, you don't.

    Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, while probably a better movie than Extinction or Last Knight, utterly sucks in comparison to the entire rest of the series in a way that Knight or Extinction don't compared to other Transformers movies. Also Ford is WAAAYYYY too old for this type of role by now.

    Its IMDB score and modifiers so far don't indicate a movie with particularly good reception or a leggy run.

    I assume all the carping about Mel Gibson/Donnie Yen was "very online" rather than enough to actually sink the movie.

    I seriously doubt WB cares enough about this movie to bother.

    RT audience scores aren't terribly reliable anyway. And by that I mean people seem to be arguing this movie isn't generally considered "good" using the same sort of very anecdotal evidence that Shazam 2 was "good" by a very small slice of noninfluential reviews on a metric of dubious value. Similar to the endless fights over Dominion's RT score rather than IMDB/Metacritic/Letterboxd whatever.

    Shazam 2 is gonna do less than half of 1. "Aquabro" is gonna horribly underperform stuff like Rise of Skywalker and Avatar 2. Might as well punt for Wonka, esp. if Blue Beetle also gets squished.

    At the risk of sounding stupid, how do previews get counted into the gross? And also, is there a way to track the impact on regular ticket sales from this?

    I honestly don't know why people keep casting her. Ecks vs. Sever was pretty damning.

    It's a waste of its slot vs. movies that have actual potential and a future. If it has crap reviews/buzz people simply won't go. Nobody HAS to see any tentpole. WB should consider punting it and slotting in something else where there's still time. And no, this is not about Heard. Levi's antivax stuff wasn't the reason Shazam bombed either.
