  1. I doubt it matters. If you look at films where people claim the studio "hid" that it's a musical, even still most people who bought tickets knew it was a musical. According to Paramount 75% of people who bought tickets for the Mean Girls remake knew it was a musical. People also said Wonka "hid" that it's a musical (despite that the original novels had songs in them and both of the prior movies (Wilder and Depp versions) were also, by definition, musicals), but clearly audiences didn't have a problem with it as it had strong legs. I can't think of any example of a musical which people didn't know was a musical and thus had poor legs. Usually the audience knows what they are getting into. The movie literally stars Lady Gaga, I really don't think this is an issue here.
  2. Should be close for #2 between Panda and Dune, both doing about $17m, I think Panda likely has the edge though. And we should see inflated weekdays because of second round of Spring Break.
  3. https://deadline.com/2024/03/box-office-ghostbusters-frozen-empire-1235865730/ FRIDAY PM: As of right now, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is looking alright with a $16M Friday and $42M-$43M opening at 4,345 theaters. That Friday is on par with Ghostbusters: Afterlife‘s first day (plus previews) of $16.6M, and should that 3-day keep up, it will only be a $1M shy of the 2021 Jason Reitman directed title.
  4. I don't understand why $200m budget is nessecary for the budget. Incredibles, Finding Nemo budgets are only in the $150m range adjusted for inflation. Hell, even Soul was in that range (Luca never got a reported figure but I'd imagine it's similar).
  5. Hard disagree, I saw all of them when I was a kid, and even then I still remember liking the 2nd one way more than the other sequels. Culkin's charisma puts it above all the others.
  6. at my local IMAX theaters, it regained some showtimes today compared to yesterday
  7. Dune 2, Barbie, and Maverick were spearheaded by their star (Cruise, who is basically shadow director for TGM) or director (Gerwig or Villeneuve). Without them, no sequel will occur. Gerwig and Villeneuve want to do other projects before tackling a sequel, Cruise is still doing MI8 so Top Gun 3 may be after that. Dominion, Afterlife, and Mutant Mayhem sequels aren't gonna be directed by people who have other projects to do first so the studio can get them out quicker.

  9. What movie a trailer is attached to doesn't mean shit. Shazam 2 trailer played in front of Avatar 2.
  10. Seems optimistic? Oppenheimer dropped -43% when BB was released, and GB: FE is gonna open higher than that. I'm expecting $15m-$16m. It's splitting many regular IMAX with Ghostbusters.
  11. Star Power doesn't mean any actor can draw any movie to profitability. Blade Runner had Harrison Ford hot off Star Wars and Indiana Jones but still flopped. Star power does still matter somewhat as movies like ABY and Beekeeper show.
  12. It will have no impact. Americans have goldfish brains. It will be forgotten by November.
  13. So far 12/13 reviews in RT are positive. That would put it at 92% RT score to begin with.
  14. I don't see how Dune 2 only makes $250m. It is on track for a $65m second week. Even if it has just fine legs after second week like Barbie that would still put it above $275m. If it has legs like Oppenheimer (probably more likely) then it is at $290m. Batman had a very early streaming release and Logan had big competition from Kong and BATB early on so neither are really comparable.
  15. Why would they move it closer to Joker? Are they stupid?
