  1. I predicted $75M after seeing it. Some very good monster mash scenes, and epic destruction, all very well constructed and well shot by director Andrews. But the movie is lacking in a typical action movie beats. Although I prefer atmosphere, suspense, and tension rather than the cheesy wall-to-wall action of GODZILLA '98, the new movie could use a little bit more action-movie pulse.
  2. JA looks rather underwhelming. Off to Matrix Reboot?
  3. Toldja, Sewol incident. Nobody is in the mood for disaster movie. Too real.
  4. Cinemascore B+ Tell Godzilla to do yoga for those legs
  5. The images from Nolan DK movies are just simply beautiful, color saturation, definition, the vastness of the image. Does GA even notice this? I saw OBLIVION twice on IMAX. The director, Joseph Kosinski, has real talent for designing large scale images. I would keep him in my stable and give him better scripts.
  6. IMAX DMR is not True IMAX. Bring on True IMAX movies shot with True IMAX Camera like TDKR. I think only Christopher Nolan shoots with True IMAX camera. Most of it what they label as IMAX movies are shot with Arri 4K or RED Epic 4K/5K (Peter Jackson used this for his HOBBITS movies, these are the closest to IMAX superb definition). My biggest regret is not to watch TDKR on IMAX for a hundred times more. All IMAX movies I saw has been a series of disappointments (PACRIM, GRAVITY, WRATH OF TITANS). HOBBIT2 & OBLIVION, PROMETHEUS are the only movies that are not shot with IMAX cameras but achieve IMAX-like definition & experience. PROMETHEUS, directed by Ridley Scott, is the best looking scifi since.....ever. Too bad the writing is super bad. TF3 DARK OF THE MOON is a superbly lensed & processed movie. Worth to see it on IMAX. Just need to tell the filmmakers not to go crazy with the super-tight framing & dizzying MTV fast cuts.
  7. Get Chinese actors in the credit, GODZILLA2 should open day and date in China
  8. Many predicted NEIGHBORS will break out. I thought the concept is very catchy and it will open well. But I didn't know it will do TED-like numbers. Universal with its high concept comedies = staying alive
  9. But how do they extend this to a franchise? Bring in a sorority as a foil will not be as fun as the frats.
  10. RIPD & 47 RONIN are massive miscalculations but DM2 did close to $1B WW and FF6's numbers are incredible. But you are right Universal seems to do better with lower budget fares. TED & BRIDESMAIDS are very lucrative. FF & BOURNE franchises started as humble, low budget action movies. Look at COWBOY vs ALIENS, HULK movies, TF-wannabe BATTLESHIP - they seem unprepared to mount this kind of productions. Like I mentioned before, every studio has a specialty, and Universal seems to be stumbling & groping around in the dark when it comes to 4-quadrant mega-budget productions.
  11. Anybody thinks the current batch of R-rated comedies are bland at best. BRIDESMAIDS, TAKE HIM TO THE GREEK are funny in the trailers but just plain awful as a feature length movie. TED is funny as a series of sketches. Remember something like JERRY MAGUIRE? Pure syrup but it has recognizable cinematic parts. These current gross-out, shock-jock types of movies are not really movies. An episode of CALIFORNICATION is much better, because it only last for 30 minutes.
  12. Sadly this will do around TASM1 WW. Another mediocre SH movie gets rewarded and Sony will just keep churning out sub-par products until GA gets sick of it. Oh no, it's worse, GA will never get sick of sub-par TASM....
  13. $200M is a given. $250M? That is insane for a Hollywood movie.
