  1. Maybe... I thought that usually the budgets reported were after the credits and stuff they had been given, so the 35M would be after that, AKA, what the studio had to front.
  2. But the majority of that comes from overseas where they wont recoup as much back from sales, and marketing budget etc. probably raise the actual cost of the film much closer to 50M than the 35M production budget. There are far more factors to take into account than just a budget.
  3. Sure, you have to think its not a total failure, but I imagine the studio heads were expecting to make a bit of cash by cutting the budget in half... not just break even.
  4. So for those who have seen it, having enjoyed the previous films in the series, will I like this one or is it not worth getting out in this buck ass cold to go see in the theater? And if i'm being honest, I am looking for answers from people who actually enjoyed the previous movies. If you didn't like them, and you don't like this one, big whoop.
  5. Finally caught this today. All I can say is that it was spectacular and I can't wait to see it again. The "one take" opening number was spectacular to behold and it just got better from there.
  6. My theaters in town are finally getting this so I am going saturday. Finally I can put some scenes to all the music I have been salivating over.
  7. I'll probably see this at some point just because January is such a boring month... or maybe ill see Rogue One again for a 4th time...
  8. This looks terrible, but January horror films are pretty consistent... an OW around 10M and a final of 20-25M is pretty much a given. I think the lowest grossing one in awhile was The Devils Due, and even that opened to almost 8.5M. And it's been awhile since the last horror film, so the market is ready for one.
  9. It will be interesting to see how the increase for R1 is today given the soft(ish) fall today... It would be great to see it increase 100% still!
  10. This surprisingly isnt showing at my local AMC this weekend... Maybe they had some foresight into the future. lol
  11. Oh snap... I was looking forward to this. I'm certainly questioning my desire to see it now.
  12. Well Madea proved to be a nice little boost of energy the box office needed. It's not mind blowing, but I sure as hell wasn't expecting it to do this well, especially having a Sat increase that high.
  13. The movies are stupid, but I always enjoy myself. Do I watch them a second time, no. But I sure do enjoy watching all the shit go down on the big screen. I'll be there. lol
  14. Jesus, it looks like just about everything took a really bad beating. What's up with Dory? I didn't figure it would get hit that bad this weekend, even with theater losses.
  15. Well, I went in with low expectations, and those were unfortunately met... What a mess. I enjoyed moments, especially with harley, but beyond a few moments, I already forgot everything that happened... except that horrible joke of a final fight. As most have said, there is a good movie in there, hell, probably a great one... unfortunately its totally not there. It could have been worse, I got some enjoyment out of it and I didn't feel like I wasted my money... (which I didnt because I got the T-Mobile ticket...) However, I wont scramble to see it again or promote it to anyone... its a "Meh" movie if there ever was one. C
  16. I want to go back again... like, I really enjoyed myself! I thought it slowed down a bit much in the middle which caused it a drag, but that final ghost fight, especially the scene with McKinnon kicking ass was just great! And the 3-d actually had me going for awhile! It's finally worth watching something in 3D! The whole thing was just so much better than I expected. Solid B+ from me!
  17. It was so solid up until about 2/3 of the way through the film. I went in expecting to hate it, being drug by a friend of mine, but I actually found it kinda charming. I feel like towards the end is where it all fell apart though when they tried to explain everything and it almost felt like everything the movie was working so hard for us to feel and understand was slapped away in place of an almost cliche ending. But it was still really well acted and beautifully shot. Overall, well done, but not something I am going to make an effort to see again. B-
  18. WTF... whoa... I felt like I was watching an overacted, poorly scripted high school play the whole time... The movie is literally two hours of people pumping each other up by yelling uplifting things or screaming or... idk... All I got out of the movie was "She's coming." which seemed like all they kept saying. And for RE, the level of destruction was much less than I would have expected... which didnt play in this movies favor because thats all it had going for it. The fact that every destruction sequence was shown fully in the trailers speaks volumes. Don't even get me started on the story, plot holes, weird fucking random additions of things that "supposedly" took place in the first film. Like, what? just... no. I went in with really low expectations, and those low expectations were exceeded on a whole new level, but not in a good way. Oh, and yeah, since the big speech was a popular point in the first film, lets just put like four fucking speeches in this one... because murica is gonna eat this shit up! F
  19. So basically right in line with estimates. The whole weekend actuals chart is on BOM now BTW.
  20. I noticed this as well! When she is in the kitchen talking to her husband at the kitchen table, i'm pretty sure the letters "vala" could be seen spelled out with alphabet blocks in the window, as well as the letter V was very prominent throughout the whole kitche, including a heart hung on the wall that had the "V" in the word "love" very large. I am assuming all that was intentional. Now I want to go back to see if it was really there or if I was just seeing things. The movie itself was not as good as the first in my opinion. The first left me breathless many times lingering in this muck of dread that wouldn't let go. It had some jump scares, but these moments of spellbinding terror are what really set it apart from other horror films, even this one. While it was still good, and I loved that the characters were looked at a bit more than a typical horror film, it felt long, and was a bit overcooked, especially by the end. A solid effort, but a bit disappointing if you ask me. B
