  1. Not bad and could've been better but for the most part it was well done. The effects were decent but the acting I thought was great, especially for Jason Clarke. What I really liked is there were two deaths, one of a main character and in each they could've gone overboard with a sweeping, overly dramatic score and some over-stylized shot of them falling but instead they simply fell off and were gone. No major production which made it all the more eerie. One complaint I did have, there were some characters I couldn't discern from others and the dialogue was a bit difficult to understand to the point I wish I turned on the subtitles. So although I liked it, this is certainly NOT a movie I'll probably ever revisit. ***½/*****, (B, 7.2/10, 3/4)
  2. Sinister 2 needs to be added to the archives. http://forums.boxofficetheory.com/topic/19927-sinister-2-2015/
  3. The only good thing I can say about this is at least it's nice seeing Shannyn Sossamon again, otherwise this is just another bad horror sequel with absolutely no scares and a tedious, recycled, plot. *½/*****, (D, 3.2/10, 1.25/4)
  4. Wasn't as enthralled as others but certainly had some creepy moments and the twist was good, though the reaction from the mother was odd. Not sure why she would contact the local police and not just dial 911 right off. Anyway, I did like the acting of Olivia DeJonge and at the least other kid was tolerable (though I turned it off at the very end, during the credits, when he started "rapping" again; if I wanted to be tortured, I'd watch more YouTube channels). Also, not a fan of the found footage style but at least it made somewhat more sense and I could roll with it. ***/*****, (C+, 6.2/10, 2.5/4)
  5. Never played the game so I don't care how close it is as an adaptation but even so, I wanted to like this and Hannah Ware wasn't bad but most everything else was between the poor CGI to a ho-hum plot that for some reason copies Terminator. I wish this could've been a guilty pleasure akin to something like Swordfish (one of my all-time favorite guilty pleasures) but it falls way short. So far, Fox is 0/2, doubt they'll try a third time outside of maybe some cheap DTV crap. **¼/*****, (C-, 4.6/10, 2/4) On a side note, Transporter Refueled still remains the champ of the best Audi commercial, but this one did give it a go.
  6. I thought it was alright. Had some entertaining moments and was digging the new character, Brenda, played by Rosa Salazar. As others had said, it is a bit clunky it is, IMO, indistinguishable from so many other of these YA adaptations. However, given how indifferent I was with the first film, which I only saw a couple weeks ago in preperation in seeing this one, I was mildly entertained and the visual effects weren't half bad, although there were times I thought I was watching a Resident Evil movie... ***¼/*****, (C+, 6.6/10, 2.75/4)
  7. Not even laughably bad, just all around bad. Ed Skrein lacks the presence and charm for the role and the action was so generic. Despite it being only 93-minutes, it felt a whole lot longer. If I had only one positive thing to say, at least Ray Stevenson made some of it tolerable otherwise I chalk this up to being another forgettable action flick. *¾/*****, (D, 3.6/10, 1.25/4)
  8. Eh, I guess I can appreciate it for being different but for as out there as it was at times, it was also strangely forgettable. I guess at least Jackman seemed to be having a good time and Levi Miller made for an OK Peter Pan, but all in all, just never could get into the movie. After seeing it, I can understand why Warner had no idea what to do with it, how to advertise or when it should even open. **½/*****, (C, 5.2/10, 2/4)

  10. One of the better unintentionally funny movies of the year. Won't take it long to air on Lifetime, basically as the same type of plot just with better production values. **½/*****, (C, 4.8/10, 2/4)
  11. Dammit, not sure why I said Salma Hayek,

  13. Saw this again for only the third time and it reminded me of why this was my favorite movie of 2001. The performances were all fantastic and even subtle especially with Penelope Cruz whom I've never been the biggest fan of. The idea of sweet and sour is emphasized throughout and really hits the right note at the end, just absolutely heartbreaking yet hopeful at the same time. I do think it's been overlooked and Cruise deserved an Oscar nomination. ****½/*****, (A, 9.2/10, 3.75/4)
  14. Ok, just was wondering (and just now saw that you and I are the only ones to even rate it).
  15. Just curious, have you actually seen the movie?
  16. Haunting and tragic. One comment that stood out, after her win at the Grammys, she told her friend (paraphrasing now) that she was so bored without drugs. Very well done, compelling and utterly harrowing, it seems she was on that course no matter what, there was an air of inevitability. ****¼/*****, (A-, 8.4/10, 3.25/4)
  17. What should have been a 15-minute short before an eventual Despicable Me 3 turned into 90-minutes of a film that dragged on for far too long. I enjoyed the first part and even then it was more worthy of some chuckles and admiring a few clever moments with the 1960s era and music. **½/*****, (C, 5.2/10, 2/4)
