  1. According to notfabio on HSX, at the usual megaplex, it only sold around 155 tickets versus Ted which sold 800+. His fans, at least on Thursday, are not showing up.
  2. Yet they also won't allow anyone else to pay to restore it either which doesn't make a whole lot of sense versus just letting it die like that.
  3. I said that, so at least one person did. BTW, I'm not a huge fan of it (or of slashers), but I also recently watched Final Exam which was soooo boring.
  4. One of the more disturbing horror movies and like baumer said, quite graphic. Still somewhat liked it though I already had heard about the twist by watching another review a few months ago (at the time I hadn't planned on seeing it, but got a Blu-ray copy to review for my site). ***/*****, (C+, 6.1/10, 2.5/4)
  5. Yep, and interestingly, according to BOM, it had about the same OW ($4.5m vs $4.0m) (unadjusted) yet didn't even make half what the first did overall ($30m vs. $12m).
  6. Awful sequel to what is a great comedy. Talk about kicking a dead horse Bernie. */*****, (F, 1.75/10, 0/4)
  7. Actually a lot better than I thought it would, this is a good outing for Gina Carano in a plot that takes some cues from Taken sans the witty writing. The plot does deviate into silliness when the motivation is revealed, but I still enjoyed it and seeing Carano kick ass with some decent fight choreography is well worth the time. ***½/*****, (B, 6.8/10, 2.75/4)
  8. One of the great comedies of the 1980s, right up there with Revenge of the Nerds and slightly below Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman are fantastic together, shame their only other pairing was the terrible sequel... ***¾/*****, (B+, 7.6/10, 3/4)
  9. Endless Love (2014) needs to be added to the archives http://forums.boxoffice.com/index.php?/topic/13909-endless-love-2014/
  10. It's not great and certainly sappy, but the two leads – Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde – have some chemistry and I can't completely hate a movie with Bruce Greenwood in it, even if the writers strive like hell to make him as big of a d-bag as humanly possible (because early on he was actually pretty reasonable with his concerns). I haven't seen the original, outside of a great review by The Cinema Snob, but compared with what I saw, this was far better and I can't say I found it to be bad, just another romantic-drama in the same vein as a Nicolas Sparks flick, and it's fine as a time waster more than anything. **½/*****, (C, 5.2/10, 2/4)
  11. After thinking about it some more, bumping up my rating: ****½/*****, (A, 8.9/10, 3.5/4)
  12. Until I saw this thread, I had completely forgotten I had actually seen this "movie"...
  13. Good, not great movie as it does drag a bit and the ending does seem rushed. Still, great performances from Phoenix and Johansson and one I actually wouldn't mind revisiting at some point. ****/*****, (A-, 7.9/10, 3.25/4)
  14. I find it amusing this is the most people have talked about I, Frankenstein... months after its release and in a Saturday numbers thread no less.
  15. Tickets near me (for weekend) are only $4.25 (2D), $7.25 (3D) before 6pm; $6.50 (2D) and $9.50 (3D) after 6pm.
  16. Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit needs to be added to the Archives: http://forums.boxoffice.com/index.php?/topic/13622-jack-ryan-shadow-recruit-2013/
  17. Could've been better, could've been a lot worse. Of course, it also could've been a movie about Jack Ryan than this suped up version making him look like Jason Bourne at times. Still, it's a flighty but enjoyable suspense thriller and Chris Pine and Kevin Costner are good, though, and I have a mad crush on her mind you, Keira Knightley seemed to strain doing an American accent. Anyway, nothing great, probably on par or a tad better than The Sum of All Fears but pales in comparison with the two Harrison Ford movies, not to mention The Hunt for the Red October which is still the best IMO. ***½/*****, (B, 6.9/10, 2.75/4)
  18. Really wanted to like this, and there are some good elements, but its cliched in so many areas and even so, the screenplay is a mess. It's a shame really because I actually thought the three main actors — Kit Harrington, Emily Browning and, especially, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (who could've had a movie of his own) — were quite good and deserved a better script. The oddball part of the movie was how someone thought casting Kiefer Sutherland as a Roman senator was a good idea followed by Sutherland's performance which, while fun, was really goofy and took away from any seriousness the movie had going for it, which admittedly wasn't a whole lot, but he didn't help matters. Another plus is the score, yeah the vocals are over-the-top but I liked it and even went and bought it for my iPod. So typical of Paul W.S. Anderson taking something that could've been a fun and thoroughly enjoyable action-adventure and make it oh so mediocre. **½/*****, (C, 5.2/10, 2/4)

  20. I found this to be mostly enjoyable but like most of Besson's scripts, and for that matter McG's direction, for all the good, it fails to get beyond a certain level of entertainment to be something great. Still, the action is well done and Costner is fantastic and if not for him, this would've been a completely forgettable film... Oh, and I agree with Baumer, Heard was woefully underused. Have you seen Syrup? Not a movie a lot of people liked (I did), but she was incredible in it, the first and only time her talents were actually utilized. ***/*****, (C+, 6.2/10, 2.5/4)
