  1. Light, fluffy heist-comedy where if you don't think about it too hard, you'll have a good time; otherwise you will only notice glaring logical issues and plot holes. ***/*****, (B-/C+, 6.3/10, 2.5/4)
  2. Could you add Tower Heist (2011), please? Edit: Nevermind, found it (for some reason it's in between "The Tree of Life" and "Tron" instead of after "Total Recall")
  3. Just saw this today and I have to say, I was a little disappointed. I enjoyed Michelle Williams' and Kenneth Branagh's peformances but the story didn't strike any kind of cord with me. I suppose it's a nice film but nothing more, nothing less. As with J. Edgar, I will give the movie props for its production and costume designs, however. ***/*****, (C+, 6.2/10, 2.5/4)
  4. Really disappointed in this film and, frankly, in Eastwood's last three movies with Hereafter, Invictus and now J. Edgar, it's a film that at the end I only ask, "So what?". However, I think I was more frustrated with this movie compared with the other two because you could see there was passion behind the scenes between the costume design and production design but unfortunately the story never really finds the right pacing especially cutting back and forth between young and old Hoover. As for the make-up, it wasn't bad but whenever we get to old Hoover, it's distracting seeing DiCaprio in old man make-up; I think that aspect of the movie (i.e. the older versions of the characters) would've been better served just casting an older actor (like Jon Voight as Hoover). At the end of the movie, I just couldn't muster up any kind of emotion either way. And given I just spend over two hours learning about this man, I'm not sure I really knew more about him than I did before (and who even knows what is true and what is mere peculation). Performance wise, DiCaprio was fine given his devotion to the roll but Naomi Watts was almost forgottable. Judi Dench at least brings a bit more depth but it's not nearly enough to save this film. **½ / ***** (C, 4.8/10, 2/4)

  6. I'm still pissed it won for Best Score because a good chunk was used previously (which i thought disqualified it from even being nominated). Hell, I even remember when the composer (Gustavo Santaolalla) won, the music played was used in the movie "The Insider" (and is even on the friggin soundtrack).
  7. Actually, it wasn't a bad remake. The cast was alright with the two leads pulling their weight (though for some reason, I had a problem with Wormald's face) and nice to see Andie MacDowell get more work even if it was limited. Also enjoyed Denns Quaid's performance, wasn't over the top as I was expecting (meaning a caricature of a Southern preacher). It's a not a great movie but certainly exceeded my low expectations. ***/*****, (C+, 6.1/10, 2.5/4)
  8. Eh, this one was OK. Some funny moments but on the whole it's just forgettable. I think some of the funnier moments involved 3D but watching it in 2D, that element is lost. 2.5/5, (C, 5.0/10, 2/4)
  9. The problem there is (and this pisses me off) that some studios (*cough* Fox and Paramount *cough*) will release one or two seasons on Blu-ray but then drop it (probably due to poor sales). Right now I have Burn Notice Season 1 on DVD, Season 2 on BD and Season 3 on DVD. Simiarly I have White Collar Season 1 on BD but Season 2 DVD. For Paramount they released CSI on Blu-ray for Season 1 (thankfully as the DVD is awful) and IIRC season 9 but since it's been DVD only releases.
  10. Yeah, sucks Paramount didn't release the rest on Blu-ray. I also have that set as well as 1-3 on Blu-ray.
  11. I haven't even bought a DVD in years (the ones listed I got from the studio).
  12. Got a bunch of Echo Bridge bargain titles (mostly previously released by Miramax):Buffalo SoldiersThe HoaxHoly Smoke!NeverwasThe Night We Never MetRogue TraderAlso got a movie called Coming & Going with a great looking Sasha Alexander on the cover...
  13. I didn't think it was that bad. Has some nice, suspenseful moments, has a good cast and the visual/practical effects are both top notch. Still, I can't say I was in love with it but found it to be a fun way to spend time. 3.25/5, (B-/C+, 6.6/10, 2.5/4)
  14. Well he's re-writing an already existing script so assuming that gets done in a couple of months, they could get a greenlight from Columbia and start filming in June or July for an early/mid 2013 release (maybe even December 2012 depending on post work). A three year gap isn't that much.
  15. Yeah, I was kind of surprised. It's not great but by rom-com standards I enjoyed it (mainly because of Anna Farris).
