  1. You guys had to share all that with the adults though. The 90's were a veritable kid's treasure trove of gems crafted just for us. It was a kid's club and we held exclusive membership.
  2. My first movie in theaters was apparently Beauty and the Beast and the first I remember seeing was The Lion King. God I love being a 90's kid.
  3. I'll only bet on under 100m OW for TASM2 Neo. I know 87 is on the low side, so I won't take that bet.
  4. Good one In all seriousness though Frozen's soundtrack hasn't had even a fraction of the success of the Disney Renaissance films. Wasn't A Whole New World #1 on the Hot 100? And I know pretty much all the other ones had a top ten or two as well and multi platinum soundtracks. Let It Go hasn't even gone top 50 on the Hot 100 yet and the soundtrack is a long ways from Platinum. It's certainly no juggernaut in that area.
  5. Same. Sad part is I actually think it was more entertaining than IM3.
  6. That would be the far smarter thing to do looking at Tangled and Frozen. Disney is winning with that release date. I hope this movie doesn't skew too boy appealing. The female audience is the most important one at the box office today.
  7. But none are primarily kid's movies is the point. Kid's 8 and under especially will be left with Dragons and Planes as the only options all summer. Dragon will benefit from that just like Frozen is now, provided it also has good WOM.
  8. Shocked in a good way to see Hobbit 3 coming in at #2. Divergent definitely seems to have hit potential.
  9. We need to see a rating for Maleficent before we know how much it's targeting kids. To me the marketing so far has been invoking more of an older audience. Maleficent is the scariest villain Disney has, so I could easily see it going PG-13.
  10. Lol, how in the hell did I mix up Guardians as an animated movie there? I must have been combining it with Big Hero 6. Anyways its only direct competition all summer is Planes, which is weak competition. Transformers are only "kids films" in the 9-12 boy demo. They're certainly not primarily kid's films.
  11. By that logic Snow White and the Huntsman was a kid's film too then.
  12. Using more anecdotal audience reports, my Dec 26th noon showing of Walter Mitty had maybe a dozen kids in attendance (a third of which were my nieces and nephews).
  13. Anyone who's seen both the Hobbit and LOTR movies though knows that they're done in the exact same tone and style. So if you're calling the Hobbit movies kid's movies you're calling the LOTR ones that too. Which is just ludicrous, imo.
  14. And I saw it 3 times and a good third of the audience was kids each time (mainly in the 8-12 range). So anecdotal evidence really can't be used it seems.
  15. Pi isn't a kids movie, but I do think the marketing was appealing to kids. Animals and vibrant fantastical colors? What's not appealing to kids about that? Walter Mitty on the other hand was never appealing to kids in its marketing. Unless kids often drift off and dream about being someone else?
  16. If it does that I'll say it has the best WOM of any animated movie since Finding Nemo. Good enough?
  17. The real movie to compare to Frozen will be How to Train Your Dragon next summer. It literally stands alone for animation until Guardians of the Galaxy in August. Because of that I think it can make a run for 400. Yes the WOM will have to be great too, but the lack of competition is what can give it a shot at 400.
  18. I love Pi, saw it 3 times in the theater, 3 more on video. There's little violence in it, and a few times where the tiger lunges at you is about the only frightening imagery to speak of.
  19. And if it does? Will you at least admit that I was partly right about the lack of competition for the Holidays thing? And if it drops sub 50% I'll admit you were right that the WOM is just that spectacular.
  20. I'll laugh so hard at this point if Frozen drops over 60% this weekend and basically proves my point. P.S.: For the record that comment is what me being a Frozen hater looks like. Not what I've been arguing in this thread.
  21. Thanks lilmac! I guess for my Birthday I should have wished Frozen would magically get 3 new kid's releases to compete with out of nowhere.
  22. So you're saying a PG film with minimal violence/frightening imagery isn't more kid friendly than a very violent action packed PG-13 one? Lol, ok.
  23. For the record you've been one of the few here to at least partly see where I'm coming from, so I'm not really addressing you when I say some are failing to admit the impact of the lack of competition. As far as the "merely well" comment, I meant that as a way of saying it wasn't having Avatar/Titanic holds prior to this past week or so. Yes it was holding good, no doubt about it, but we weren't in "wow" territory. It wasn't doing anything phenom worthy until this 3rd highest 5th weekend thing, and I'm saying that happened because of lack of competition over the Xmas-New Year holiday. Otherwise its holds probably would be more in line with what Tangled did like they were at the beginning of its run. That's really all I'm saying.
