  1. You're leaving out Life of Pi which was a PG based on a popular children's book and the 50m+ Ralph grossed during the Holiday season. Add all 4 of those grosses together and you get something comparable to Frozen + WWD's gross. Anyways, I admitted a long time ago Frozen obviously has good to great WOM, but the lack of competition is the reason for these insane holds right now. If it weren't for that it would be having more along the lines of Tangled's holds (which still had great WOM).
  2. Fine, if that's true I guess we'll see it in the dailies when kids go back to school next week. It's not like adults never go to animation alone. My friends and I are all adults and went to DM2 without kids. Hardly means they're the majority of the audience though. Animation is fueled by the kid audience, even Pixar movies which attract the biggest adult audience.
  3. What I'm saying is it will have a bigger than normal drop off after the Holidays because it has had a bigger than normal increase during the Holidays due to no competition. Again people, this type of thing never happens where there's only one real kid's movie for the Holidays. Not sure why no one wants to realize/admit how much this is reaping that reward.
  4. Grinch was Xmas themed so of course it would fall after Xmas. Frozen isn't really themed to any holiday except Winter. Anyways the theming isn't what I'm even talking bout, I'm talking about the complete lack of kid's movies during the Holidays when kids are out of school and like to go to the movies. Frozen is benefiting massively from that.
  5. Because the Holidays will be over and that's what's propelling Frozen right now. Nothing else for kids to see for the Holidays. Although kids won't be going back to school tell next week, so I guess it could still do well through the end of this week.
  6. That's how much longer it has for amazing holds before it comes crashing to reality.
  7. That would be nearly an 11x multi, which would just be crazy in this day and age, even for a sub 10m opener. I think it's possible too though with some Oscar buzz.
  8. We have literally no clue what its 3D share was this weekend. No 3d share on OW was ever reported. Some animated movies have been close to 40% this year, others close to 30. If Frozen was closer to 40 then 25% this weekend would be realistic.
  9. Last I checked 3D prices are on average a good $3 more than regular. Where I live they're all about $3.50 more, and Denver is no New York or LA. A 25% share would be around 7.5m of its gross this weekend, $21.5m not in 3d. $7.5m divided by $11.05 (the average ticket price +$3 bucks more for 3D) is around 678,000 tickets. That times the average ticket price is around $5.5m+$21.5m is 27m. Right around TLK's 5th weekend.
  10. Wait until next weekend. I'd say none cause the movie should drop hard starting next weekend. If it continues to hold amazingly though after kids go back to school then it really does just have phenomenal WOM.
  11. The Crood's share was 38% according to BOM. Strangely BOM didn't seem to report 3D shares for any other animated movie on OW this year, so 31% and 38% is all we have to go by an average.
  12. Yes, Frozen could have had only around a 20% share this weekend. Hard to say without knowing the OW share.
  13. No we did not. I believe animated movies have been having around 35% OW 3D shares this year, so Frozen was probably in line with that.
  14. So bummed it couldn't have doubled what it made on OW. I knew legs would be great, just never expected the OW to be so low.
  15. Fixed. Best performing movies of all time? Getting carried away much? Come back and tell me that again when it drops over 65% next weekend when the Holidays are over.
  16. Don't forget 3d inflation though. If it had at least a 25% 3D share this weekend, which is reasonable to say, it wouldn't make the top 10.
  17. That was admittedly stupid of me to not realize that it had no competition the entire rest of the year. If I had paid attention to history I would have known that kid's film always take in a good 300m+ combined during the Holiday season, and since Frozen was it this year it didn't have to share. Holiday 2010 on the other hand was the most competitive in modern history for kid's movies. It speaks volumes about how great Tangled's WOM was that year to get the gross it did with all that kids competition.
  18. WWD looked like a direct to video effort from the get go. If Fox ever expected it to be a big box office contender with kids they were out of their mind.
  19. I sure hope studios are looking at Frozen and taking note. Kids want to go to the movies during the Holidays, plain and simple. The studios need to get it together and stop saturating the Xmas market with adult releases. The Holidays are the one time of year where it's OK to saturate the market with kids movies. Instead Frozen stands alone this year. SMH.
  20. Battlefield Earth is what a big budget movie that is also one of the worst ever looks like. TF2 isn't quite in that realm.
  21. TF2 isn't one of the worst films ever in all fairness. Maybe one of the worst big budget blockbusters ever, but there are a crapload of small movies that are way worse.
  22. Kinda crazy DOS might get 3 weekends at #1. If Paranormal Activity flops next weekend it could get 4.
  23. DOS is doing great. Utterly shocked 47 Ronin has made so much. I really thought 10m for the 5 day would be an absolute best case scenario. I guess relentless marketing does account for something.
  24. That's very interesting considering you haven't seen the movie. You'll know what I mean when you do.
