  1. Okay, that makes a lot of sense. Yeah Frozen should have a lower multiplier. I'm guessing 18.5 maybe? Or a bit higher since it had events with higher ticket price.
  2. True. But the biggest blockbuster is still a blockbuster. We have no precedent to know how a sequel of a movie that big would perform. Even HP2 didn't open that much bigger (without previews) than the first. And HP1 was the 2nd biggest movie ever at the time. Although this is not a good comparison, since HP1 was already big from the get-go. Other biggest blockbusters don't have sequels, only follow ups from the same director (Howl's Moving Castle and Weathering with You). That's why I assumed Frozen 2 would be like any other blockbusters sequels.
  3. I see. I hope it's accurate. Still seems too high, but we'll know soon enough.
  4. To be honest, I didn't expect this. I mean, I knew OW's gonna be much bigger than Frozen. But not record-breaking big. In Japan, a sequel to a blockbuster is not always guaranteed to open bigger. Even if it does, it won't be that much bigger. Let alone breaking OW record. Then again, maybe I shouldn't have applied normal rules to Frozen in Japan.
  5. Yeah 😅. I'm just worried that with these seemingly-too-high numbers, people will be disappointed when the actuals come out.
  6. No, Corpse said ~3x, which means as high as 3x. It could be 2.7 or 2.8. You also had Friday higher than the reported number ($3m). $8.96m Sat means ¥973m. With estimated 650K on Sat, the ATP would be around ¥1500. That seems waaay too high. TS4 was around ¥1300. Or did you mean ¥896m? Because that makes more sense. I don't know, maybe you're right. But it feels like I'm missing something here.
  7. That high? TS4 was 1300 if I'm not mistaken. Does the higher price of "Magical Version" have that much impact?
  8. My guess is, 470K from usual locations, 671K overall admission, 872M yen Saturday gross. Mind you, like I said, this is only a guess.
  9. So Yo-Kai Watch's non-previews/animated film OW record is in play afterall. Wow.
  10. "Frozen 2 opened at #1 in all markets and posted the highest animated opening day of all-time in Korea, Indonesia, Turkey, Philippines, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and UAE." Nice! Also, it could break Saturday/single day record in Japan.
  11. That's your opinion and it's fine. I was just seeing it more objectively. Minions are waaay more popular, so it's understandable when the movie about them was huge. Meanwhile, Scrat (I even barely remember his name) doesn't have the same impact or popularity. Or maybe he did back then? I can't remember.
  12. Show Yourself or Into the Unknown? Show Yourself is amazing, but has a more complex composition, while Into the Unknown has multiple belting parts that are perfect for audition song. Also, I think Disney is pushing Into the Unknown instead.
  13. Yeah, an unfortunate rare sight. Wish FvF made much more than that. The score is very high though. Few movies got a 9 on that apps. Which means people who saw it, loved it. Just not many people to begin with.
  14. Yeah I've been wondering why they were so huge especially in those countries. Never understand that. I get why the Minions movie was huge for example, or Shrek. They've become iconic characters. But Ice Age?
  15. One of the theater chains here in Indonesia has screenings for Frozen 2 as early as 8AM. I've never seen that since Endgame. Maybe for the little kids? I mean, they wouldn't waste electricity and man power if there weren't enough demands. The point is, there are signs that Frozen 2 will get huge OW in Indonesia. Not sure how huge though. But definitely the biggest for animated film.
  16. I checked the box office report on eiga.com for the week each movie was released, and I found that only Yo-Kai Watch, HP2 and HP1's are without previews. Also HP1's number is supposed to be 1,379,120. So I think it's: 1. Yo-Kai Watch 2. HP2 3. HP1 It's really hard to do comparison with this "previews are included in OW" thing, because back in the day, "previews" were held in Japan, not only for several hours, but for a whole day or a whole weekend, or even multiple weekends. Thank god, they don't do that anymore.
  17. Yeah I was thinking Yo-Kai Watch but wasn't sure how big. So it's ¥1.6B. With all that seats, Frozen 2 can challenge this I guess. But the question is how many of that seats will be filled on OW. I feel that it won't break it, because it will be more backloaded compared to those animes on the top of the list.
  18. That would need ¥2B. For 3 days, maybe, but unlikely. And for traditional 2-day OW, I don't think theaters in Japan have that kind of capacity. That number for ROTS is recorded as its "2-day" OW. But if I remember correctly, it actually includes previews on the previous weeks. The same with other biggest openers like Matrix Reloaded. It makes me wondering, what movie has the biggest OW without previews?
  19. Just saw it! And I LOVED it!! It's more epic than the first, and more action-packed. And yeah, it's a little bit darker, but somehow a little bit funnier to me. I felt like It's this close to breaking the 4th wall. I will say that I still like the 1st one better, because the story is more focused and it has more surprising twist. IMO, the musical numbers were more powerful than those in the first movie. I cried hard during "The Next Best Thing" and the scene before that. "Show Yourself" was sooo epic! It's definitely the "Let It Go" of this movie. "Into the Unkown" was visually dazzling. And I get why it's the main song. It's simply very catchy and fun to sing along. Can't wait to see it again on Saturday! Already have the tickets for IMAX.
  20. Again, what is the source? This is very useful and interesting. Also, I looked for the admission price in 1960s, and according to this: http://www.eiren.org/statistics_e/ the average ticket prices in 1960 and 1961 were 72 and 85 yen. Let's take the lower one for Ben Hur. Then we get 20.69m admissions, still lower that Spirited Away's 23.5m. Since you said 30m for Ben Hur, does that mean it had much lower ticket price than the average?
  21. Excuse me. The Greatest Showman had one of the leggiest runs ever in Indonesia. And the songs were big hits. It's definitely "a thing". That being said, nobody cares about Cats here. And people will see it as "too weird".
  22. Really? Higher than Tokyo Olimpiad and Emperor Meiji? Where did you get that? Any sources? Because it's the first time I'm hearing this and it's hard to imagine that in the 60s a western film had more admission than those two Japanese films. It is interesting if that's true.
  23. It's okay if you don't enjoy Taylor's music. People have different tastes. But considering she sells a lot of songs and album, touches people with her songs, and is still one of the most popular artists right now, I would say she's far from being a failure as a singer/artist. Yeah she's not Celine Dion, voice-wise, but the fact that a LOT of people are buying her work, means that they enjoy her voice.
