  1. According to Gitesh Panda the top 20 this weekend made 206m overall - a new June record (even though Sunday is July?).
  2. ^ I agree. If I had issues with this movie they were script based - the first half hour is fairly lackluster, for instance. The action was so much fun it made me forget that ultimately I didn't care about the story. I hope that's not the case for the sequel, but for now it wasn't a problem.
  3. I tried watching Avatar on Blu-Ray but found it weirdly tough - there's something about the look of the forest that veers into the uncanny valley phenomenon. It's as though my brain can't decide whether it's watching a live-action movie or an animation and gets increasingly annoyed. I guess that didn't happen in the cinema because I was too distracted by the 3D to be concerned by it.Avatar's legacy is clearly the 3D boom it inspired. Story-wise it has nothing to influence, because Titanic already did it better.
  4. Kind of astounded by Ted's numbers. Saw the trailer again before Killer Joe last night and there wasn't a single laugh in the crowd. I mean, I get that kind of film has an audience, I just had no idea the audience was that big.
  5. I remember hearing that Jackson was editing KK right up until the night before the world premiere - definitely not a good sign.
  6. To say I think another 3 movies is overkill would be an understatement, but if nothing else the increase or decline from one movie to the next will make for interesting box office analysis.
  7. A few new sites are reporting that schedule as a possibility. I say 'eek' only because I don't much care for Avatar and the prospect of 3 more films doesn't excite me.
  8. Shame about Dumb and Dumber. As much as I normally hate the notion of a cash-grab sequel years and years after a first successful film, I'd have been up for this one.
  9. I'm loving how divisive this movie is. Scott's still got it.
  10. Is it some masterpiece I'm missing out on, AA?
  11. Christ, I didn't even know a Madagascar 2 existed, let alone that the 3rd would be that popular.
  12. I had no problems with the 'more questions than answers' route the film took. That was what made Alien a great film (even though Prometheus wasn't as good).
  13. I still wish this wasn't happening. But it is, so I better start wishing for it to be really, really good.
  14. Who knows. Probably not anything currently in development, but it'll come sooner than later.TA's OW is still a shock to me. I get its great legs because it's a well-made crowdpleaser released in an otherwise weak month, but I still don't comprehend why that many people saw it in its first weekend.
  15. I laughed out loud at how elaborate and deadpan the description of how to kill the fan was.
  16. Have to admit I'm surprised at Snow White's 50m+ opening. Guess the blanket marketing helped. Wonder what legs will be like.
  17. I love Arnold, but Running Man definitely isn't a must-see film!
  18. PS - I quite liked Citizen Kane. Welles' performance alone makes it watchable.
  19. People who haven't seen it should watch The Godfather. It isn't a 'difficult' movie unless you have severe ADD.Lawrence of Arabia, Seven Samurai and Good, Bad and the Ugly would be my picks.
  20. Genuine question to anyone who knows: Can Thor and Loki fly? I only ask because Thor's introduction in TA suggested he could , and I assume Loki would also be able to that being the case. But then I wonder about the many other moments where neither flew when they should have.Obviously debating the laws of physics in this film is a little pointless, it's just something I wondered about in hindsight.
