  1. Titanic and Star Wars underperforming would definitely make other studios think twice about this 3D re-release ploy (wonder how Universal now feel about Jurassic Park) but it's hard to imagine LOTR not giving it a try, particularly with The Hobbit set to remind people of the franchise.
  2. No one should shed any tears for AR's performance. It was the sequel nobody asked for.
  3. It's a decent enough opening day. I always found the 150m DOM predictions ridiculous.(Although it's still a Cameron film so even now I have a slight hesitation in completely writing that figure off.)
  4. Avengers would surely beat that figure, unless it's a really bad film.
  5. Man, just read this entire thread in one go.Regarding what makes an 'impressive' performance, it's true that front-loading is now the norm. But to me, that actually makes a film with good legs more impressive than a massive opening weekend, because it's so damn rare in this environment.Still, when the OW is 150m for a film that was totally unexpected to get it then that's something in itself.
  6. It was always going to be frontloaded. As mediocre as the other two openings were, they still combined to make 50m worth of competition for the young males and family demos.
  7. That 55m doesn't make sense given the supposed Friday number, but I'd say it's safe to rule out 70m + for the weekend.
  8. Well, the second weekend record is out the window.
  9. Gitesh Panda has THG at high 60s, but that was 6 hours ago.
  10. Anything over 70m will be great for THG.Expected to poor numbers for the other two big openers.
  11. I guess this proves that even with gigantic openings, 400m is still a tough milestone.
  12. I dunno, in this day and age great legs are more interesting to me. Not that anyone can take away from THG remarkable opening.
  13. I fully appreciate it's good for March. But the 2nd weekend will be more interesting.
  14. Decent number, but the phenomenal weekend didn't quite spill over into the week as much as some may have hoped.
  15. *resists making a 'captain obvious' joke*
  16. So a million less than its estimate. Catastrophic.
  17. Interestingly (or not) this hasn't opened especially big internationally. Be interested to see how big the inevitable WOM makes it, though.
  18. Have to admit I hope it doesn't beat TDK in the actuals, but great number. If you'd predicted that a month ago you'd have been laughed off the forum.
  19. I agree with the thrust of Shawn's point. Another example woulf be Inception's OS take.
  20. If it makes studios think twice about insane budgets then I'm glad JC failed. That might be optimistic, though.
