  1. It would have been the same for The Good Dinosaur in 2015 if not for Hotel Transylvania 2 and The Peanuts Movie (170M and 130M respectively, which while bigger than this year's fall animated fare, were not really BO tour de forces that sucked out the demand for animation throughout the rest of the year). TGD was also sandwiched between two blockbusters (Spectre and Mockingjay 2) and a Star Wars episode. This year we have Ragnarok and JL which are sure to be bigger than Spectre and MJ2 and December 2017 is more crowded than December 2015 even outside of the Episode. I think this will do more than TGD especially if the reviews are stronger, but Moana numbers seems very doubtful (and that's not even considering the fact that Moana had far more built in interest being the first WDAS princess musical post Frozen).
  2. Official poster by Terry More (creator of Strangers in Paradise, whose adaptation is director Angela Robinson's next project) There's also and appearance and poster signings by the director and cast in NYC on Monday
  3. All of those other examples are from out of continuity stories. And King's doing great work with Batman, actually exploring his PTSD instead of just glorifying the empty brooding. His approach by wedding Bruce/Selina is to have them grapple with true happiness, a concept that's alien to them unlike the grimdark doom and gloom. It seems a refreshing concept and about damn time.
  4. It finally happened. After a courtship of almost 78 years, Batman and Catwoman are getting hitched in the comics! (proper in continuity comics) This is pretty HUGE for these two legendary icons With Selina's pretty central position in the DCEU intro line-up, cannot wait for her return to the big screen. Harley who?
  5. The first Lego Movie exploded because the stars aligned perfectly for it. The first critically well-received movie to come after Frozen, a release date that was perfectly positioned (not too soon after Frozen, not too late, and a month with minimal competition) and Everything is Awesome! was incredibly catchy and played into the popular combo of breakout song/hit animated movie post Let It Go/Frozen. If Lego 2 somehow gets these same factors or similar factors going for it, it could be big like the original. Otherwise near Lego Batman numbers would be fine.
  6. Marcel's okay. She also wrote Saving Mr. Banks and that Terra Nova sci-fi show was her creation, so she's got experience in the genre. Regarding 50Shades, E.L James & hubby hated her and tossed her out along with Taylor-Johnson, the director, which led to the sequel being a complete trainwreck. So Marcel was on the side that came off looking better.
  7. Maleficent didn't make anywhere close to Alice 1 numbers though. And I don't see the goodwill being so strong that it could give this movie a boost, or even retain 100% attendance. Unless the strategy is to break from the norm when it comes to the release schedule and drop it in a relatively uncrowded October or something.
  8. The animated movie fit all of that in a little more than an hour. Flash's origin was handled through dispersed flashbacks. Frankly I'd prefer if they took that direction and leaped directly to the action (preferably taking place after the events of JL). Flash's origin is pretty by the numbers so it doesn't really deserve a linear telling like say Wonder Woman's. Good characterization and writing will get the message across.
  9. Why the shock and doom over It's drop? September has been a dumping ground for a reason. Mid-late October may bring some nice Halloween bumps for Pennywise's late legs.
  10. JC is spoiling me for choice with his "white saviour subversions" and insightful views into objectified representations of women in blockbusters. Role model
  11. Hold on a bit. I got excited too but turns out all the kids are CGI Na'vi except for that one white boy in the blue shirt. GTFO Cameron
  12. S6's Light of the Seven gives me chills. I can only hope there is a similar theme in this movie that compliments such a suspenseful, thrill building sequence.
  13. DC has begun to cater to that fury. This was their official booth at Comic Con
  14. Speaking of DC's teen superhero teams, I wonder if this will lead to a Legion of Superheroes spin-off show? @Brainiac5 @YourMother
  15. It's just a rumor one of the DC fan outlets claim to have heard from their "sources". I could see it happening though, especially if the live action show turns out to be successful. It's the exact same strategy they've used for Flash (gain a core fanbase for the character through a show, then introduce him/her into the DCEU).
  16. Rumor has it that Nightwing is going to introduce some Titans in the DCEU, setting them up for a TT franchise. Perez/Wolfman Titans were DC's highest selling comics in the 80's before Frank Miller/Alan Moore blotted out the sun and brought in the endless age of Bat dominance. TT is truly an untapped goldmine. Btw did you see The Judas Contract animated movie? It's great.
  17. Her writing was okay (it was really her gimmicks that were ridiculously fun, even though she repeated them ad nauseam) but why isn't Hollywood more fascinated by the fact that Christie was the real life Amazing Amy? That shit she pulled to troll her cheating husband and his mistress was hilarious Annapurna, A24 or Neon better make that scandal somebody's Best Actress vehicle
  18. Clark is one of the superheroes who are more interesting as they grow older. It's the case for all of the Trinity. Also, Superdad is a fun concept (when not handled by Singer) and I wonder if we will get the Jonathan Kent Superboy, who could be a breakout with the Damian Wayne Robin.
