  1. May I also point out that last year's "anti-superhero movie" Oscar ceremony was written by none other than the scribes of Green Lantern? It really seems a sour case of "Why didn't our turd do as good as all these other flicks?" and they took Inarritu's comments as a free pass to pettily bash the genre (which explains why such jokes were made right after the "Hero" themed year when the Academy actually celebrated superhero movies).
  2. She said if they had to make it R-rated, she would prefer it if it came in two cuts: R-rated and PG-13, because that would strengthen its BO chances. The comics aren't R-rated, just the video games, so it isn't like PG-13 would kill the character. The green band trailer had the same impact as the red band trailer. Making it R-rated is just unnecessary fanboy pandering, because Fox knows they screwed up with Origins. But it's not like fanboys wouldn't turn up for a PG-13 film. Now you have a situation where the character's appeal is reduced and families and children are barred from contributing to the movie's gross. Wouldn't be surprised to see KFP3 or TFA "magically" see boosts in dailies and weekend grosses after Deadpool comes out. Also, she is right in that Zoolander 2 has more buzz with casual audiences than Deadpool and it may deliver a massive blow when it releases the next week.
  3. I enjoy Grace Randolph's unique perspective on movies, pop-culture trends and studio strategies when it comes to marketing and story tones too. She's not always right on the money, but she is pretty knowledgeable and brings up interesting things that I wouldn't have considered otherwise.
  4. Er... why is superhero fatigue being discussed for pages on end in the GOLDEN GLOBES thread again?
  5. "Best" according to whom? If you want to go by Academy standards, then Mother India, Salaam Bombay and Lagaan are the films to start with as those are the Indian films to receive Best Picture in a Foreign Language Film nominations. If you are into indie fare then to go by Satyajit Ray's "Apu trilogy" from the 1950's, considered to be one of world cinema's finest works, receiving praise from stalwarts like Akira Kurosawa. The Criterion Collection restored some damage prints of the trilogy movies last year.
  6. Eh, I doubt those countries cared much for the OT either. Or even Fords's 80s/90s blockbusters. OS expansions to non-English speaking countries really took off well after.
  7. Yup. And just because Hamill and Fisher weren't blockbuster stars didn't mean they were slacking either. They just pursued different professional paths and excelled there. Voice over for Hamill and script doctoring for Fisher. There are a number of folks around my age who will associate Mark Hamill with The Joker from the 90's Batman show before they would with Luke Skywalker.
  8. Cameron was in talks with him for his version of Spider-Man too. Imagine the insanity that would have been Leo following up Titanic with James Cameron's Spider-Man and Episodes 2-3.
  9. If he had chosen to do rom coms in the late 90's/early 00's he may have stood a chance to eclipse Smith and Cruise at the BO and become Twilight in the form of a person.
  10. They were fun but I was also pleasantly surprised at the amount of heart the movie had. And that date at the amusement park scene was kinda magical.
  11. Unfortunate about OS but kinda expected? Oh well, great little medium-sized film with a pleasant DOM run.
  12. LMAO keep telling yourself that about the new trailer even as crowds cheer on Wonder Woman before the SW7 showings. Also, Cap 2 didn't outperform DOFP and Hobbit to that extent despite its Avengers connections, Natasha basically being a co-lead and good reviews. A major reason why they are once again shoehorning half of the Avengers roster plus Panther and Spidey into the third film. Seems like they just don't think Steve can carry a movie on his own. ASM2 received an opening that was on par with Cap 2 and DOFP (could have been higher if not for the rotten reviews) and then had weak legs because of its actual quality. GotG was a brand new property which was why it didn't make the list (also why Suicide Squad, Deadpool and Doctor Strange aren't there, despite Harley and Deadpool being in the Top 3 most anticipated characters list along with Wondy). It doesn't seem a completely unbiased poll, and it doesn't take into consideration major factors like mid to late schedule marketing, reviews, and WOM generated by actual movie quality, but it never claimed that in the first place. Nor what I mentioned.
  13. That CW trailer didn't really do much to excite folks. I can see why even Bourne beat it on a most anticipated list.
  14. Wow, it's actually happening. Seeing something do the seemingly impossible and pass those two Cameron colossuses feels surreal.
  15. GoT/ASoIaF because for me, TFA works as a perfectly satisfying standalone.
  16. Something like this would be rad because that would mean it would pass TDK with its second weekend beating TDK's OW!
  17. I agree, even though it wouldn't be a shocker, the most satisfying resolution would be for Rey to be Luke's daughter. If Rey is in her early 20's then that would place her birth close to a decade after RotJ. There is a Vox article speculating that Rey's English accent (usually denoted as a Coruscanti dialect in the SW universe) most probably comes from her mother.
