  1. Memorial Weekend looks like a double humiliation for the Alice franchise. Jungle Book will pass the first to be the highest grossing Disney live action adaptation domestically, and the sequel may at best see an embarrassing drop from the opening of the first, at worst be DOA.
  2. Top right pic suggests Rita transforms into a massive dragon thingy for the climax. In which case, yay Rangers picking up Maleficent's slack!
  3. His work inspires far more confidence than Zack Penn's, that for sure.
  4. Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class, Power Rangers) writing Also, it seems to be a Booster Gold solo. So either Blue Beetle is reduced to a supporting player or has been dropped from the script.
  5. What did LMM get an Emmy for? Hmm... Loving Vincent may actually stand a strong chance, especially considering the technique it is using. If it delivers then one of Zootopia/Dory/Moana is getting snubbed (since I think Kubo and April are definite locks too). I suspect release woes may thwart The Little Prince, but if they don't, then we may actually have TWO of the Disney umbrella films getting snubbed.
  6. Teens make for perfect cannon fodder because their deaths provide a ton of shlockdrama, being "taken away in the flower of their youth" and all. And also because most of them aren't A-List so offing them saves the actual adult A-Listers and also furthers the story of the latter. Three different groups under Emma Frost's watch have perished (Hellions, Genosha kids and Academy X students depowered after M-Day). And the "lucky" few who survived get picked one by one now and then whenever a writer feels like it. I have no clue when the Power Pack was last seen. As for the Runaways, Nico Minoru is the only one who currently appears in comics (the all-female A-Force with Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Dazzler and Medusa). Before that, she and Chase Stein were part of The Hunger Games inspired Avengers Arena where superpowered kids were kidnapped and forced to kill each other in a virtual arena by Arcade. Ah, to be young and superpowered in the Marvel Universe.
  7. Yeah, I'm currently reading that run. Dani Moonstar and Illyana especially are such terrific characters. The Demon Bear Saga is just lit, and with that gorgeous Bill Sienkiewicz art to boot. My gateway team of youngsters to the X-Men however were the New X-Men/Academy X students, in the early-mid 00's after Grant Morrison's run. Another bunch of promising youngsters, most of whom slaughtered again as per the course for mutant teenagers.
  8. Hellions. They were mercilessly murdered because X-Men writers use teen mutants as hunting game. Btw, have you New Mutants fans watched this amazing decade appropriate video where the kids sneak off to a Lila Cheney/Dazzler concert after dance lessons with Stevie Hunter?
  9. Up to South Korea and Japan now. SK is getting it in early June but Japan won't get it till August.
  10. I'm going through the classic New Mutants run. It really is some of Marvel's best work. I don't like Rahne and would have vastly preferred Karma. But my hate for Rahne is mostly because she was so gross in New X-Men, having an affair with a minor whom she was supposed to be mentoring and what not. But this is the teen version and if Maisie plays her then I could really dig it. I think they might Scooby-Doo/Slimer Warlock and make him the almost unintelligible non-human mascot of the group. I could live with that, I think, provided the other five are handled great.
  11. Maisie Williams on New Mutants: Sign me up She's rumored to play Wolfsbane btw
  12. So I think Josh Boone revealed the roster of characters on his Insta: Dani Moonstar, Magik, Wolfsbane, Cannonball and Sunspot And Warlock:
  13. Man vs. Furry. Son of Krypton vs. Bunny of Zootopia.
  14. Or they could just CGI the whole thing (and have Rooney Mara voice Mulan).
  15. Brad Brevet is a movie reviewer first, awards speculator second, box office analyst third. I was kind of surprised the Mojo gig was offered to him and he accepted it. Wish Mojo had just funded his Rope of Silicon site instead, and incorporated their data archives and BO reporting there. Oh well, still better than the two guys who preceded him.
  16. I think the sequel is the only movie with a legit chance of breaking this record until inflation plays a massive role again. This really was a unique case of all the right elements coming together: wholesome family entertainer + India centric story and characters + superb marketing that cunningly tapped into the country's nostalgia for one specific song/show.
  17. Which part of it exactly? When the Rangers kicked Ivan Ooze in the nuts or when Rita Repulsa forced Zedd to marry her?
  18. That was only in front of Selyse, and someone here perfectly explained why the scene was deliberately constructed so: https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/2a7go9/spoliers_acok_regarding_melisandres_ruby_necklace/cisasro
  19. I remember that. There were a lot of folks lowballing Frozen based on Tangled's performance too without taking into consideration that devastating earthquake. Making Frozen's actual performance all the more shocking!
  20. Dinosaur was the highest grossing WDAS before Frozen? Also, Return to Neverland was once in the Top 10 wut? On the plus side though, Hunchback did much more respectably than it did in NA. And it warms my heart to see Aladdin above The Lion King.
