It may be a spin-off but New Mutants was always about a younger batch of mutant students at Xavier's. So I wouldn't be surprised if the younger crew of Apocalypse end up being the protagonists here.

It looks cute and there is no girly superhero in live action right now so it's a welcome change. Were people expecting Nolan gritty tone for a show featuring a teenage blonde flying around in a skirt?

It has zilch of the soul, sass and spirit of the original show. And it's nothing like the show story wise too.

It's like someone murdered the show and shot a perverse pantomime using the corpse through a handheld. You guys should pick up the IDW comic if you are interested. It's a pretty interesting take on the show and the characters, retaining what was best about them but still adapting it to the current social media fuelled age. Definitely better than this nonsense.

Come on, Arachnid, I'm usually on the same page as you 99% of the time, but who the hell will care or notice that Carol wasn't the CM who fought Thanos that one time in the comics? It's neither "shoehorned" or "unnatural". Mar-Vell has been dead in the comics for a long time now and no one is really fuming. Besides, the MCU at this point is a completely alternate universe to the Marvel 616, which is now getting destroyed as we know it anyway, further making the point moot.

See, in this instance, you are talking about the dynamics of a profession where women need to use their sexuality to excel in their field of work and using that to generalize dynamics of professions where sexuality isn't an obligation. Acting utilizes sexuality at times but the basic argument against Hollywood is that should not demand actresses to entirely rely upon sexuality or even consider sexuality as an obligatory aspect of the profession. Acting should try to emulate every aspect of life, and sexuality while a real part of life, is still just a part of life. So by that simple logic, if that's ALL an actress is required to be, then it is limiting her progress and achievements in her chosen line of work to a great degree.

But lordmandeep, haven't you stated that your sexism comes from not meeting many empowered women? By your own admission that would make it a very skewed/incomplete life experience.

Yeah, it's these small things that Whedon weaves into his ensembles to make them really feel like a close knit family. Spider-Gwen is a far better and more successful character. Too bad Emma Stone will not be able to play her now. If Marvel is going to have a female teen lead movie though, still think it should be Ms. Marvel first and foremost. That film has so much potential to be something truly special, someone has to be blind not to see that.
