  1. This time the Oscar buzz is expected for Lady Gaga, especially as she's coming off the House of Gucci snub
  2. At least put Auli belting out Apex Predator in the trailers. The cast interviews for this have been fire. Renee Rapp is a rockstar.
  3. Matt would have had to go into the closet forever if he had been Ratner's Superman in the 00s. And the Cavill rumors would have been a BILLION times more obnoxious.
  4. Is it really a cause of celebration when WB nuked their entire 2021 slate by simu releasing all of them on HBO Max, and then nuked their DC slate by announcing the Gunnverse with 4 DCEU movies yet to come out and a fifth one just coming off its OW? The only legit competition was Fantastic Beasts 3, but Rowling was the one to self-implode there.
  5. Euphoria is HUGE especially after Season 2. It's no coincidence that Sweeney, Elordi and even Missing's Storm Reid who plays Zendaya's little sister on the show had overperforming films in 2023. I guess Hunter Schafer too contributed somewhat to Hunger Games's success. Euphoria cast is displaying the opposite of the GoT cast's performance at the BO.
  6. Apparently it's the most popular of the post-Flash CW DC shows. Not AS popular as The Flash as ChipDerby said but there's general awareness. I didn't mean just S&L though but DC's tendency in letting the CW keep mining Superman post-Smallville, as opposed to how reluctant they are to have a show with an adult Batman (they have done Kid Bruce with Gotham but it's not the same obviously). Serious question to anyone who was following BO back then, DID Smallville in any way impact Superman Returns reception? Were there Welling fans vs. Routh fans flame wars? Did anyone consider it as a factor for SR underperformance coz ppl were comparing the two?
  7. TBF that's only because they don't want to dilute the Bat brand by making a live action Batman show (at least not one that's about Adult Batman anyway). Ditto for Marvel and all of its most popular characters. Which brings us to another problem... has Superman become TOO MUCH of a TV IP to be enjoyed on the big screen for most people?
  8. I'm assuming TCP budget got inflated due to the pandemic and strikes?
  9. The BB/Aquabro comparisons are silly considering Blue Beetle was not a sequel, came out at the end of a super crowded summer that included two BO titans releasing just a few weeks before and most importantly, couldn't even have the cast to promote the film. That's not to say Aquaman isn't a much more popular character and at the very least proves he is nowhere as radioactive as say a Green Lantern or Shazam at this point (Flash is also a very damaged IP), but being the biggest budget movie of the holiday season and being a sequel to a 1B dollar grosser (which was also the biggest budget movie of its holiday season) give it a large advantage over BB.
  10. Other than Lex and Zod, they don't have the same pop-culture exposure as most Batvillains including Riddler, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Bane and Two-Face. And Lex and Zod are so overexposed that people think there aren't any Superman villains beyond the two of them. At least the Batman Rogues Gallery has 8-9 really popular characters who can be rotated around to at least preserve some novelty while still capitalizing on familiarity.
  11. I added the last sentence to my post. The Batman had all of the "Big 4" Batvillains (counting the Joker cameo). The fact that it prominently featured Catwoman, Penguin and Riddler was why I was always sure it wasn't going to perform like BB even before release. OTOH the Superman franchise doesn't really have 'big guns' at the level of the iconic Batvillains. Also Corenswet is no Pattinson, at least not at this stage in his career.
  12. I'm annoyed by the doomposting as well but let's be real. Batman Begins wouldn't be doing 337M even today if Batman and Robin had been the last Batfilm 8 years back. ...tho TBF I don't think BB would have really exploded in any scenario considering its lack of a "big name" villain, which I think plays a role in determining the BO of a Batman movie.
  13. Batman Begins ended with the Joker card tease and TDK ended up releasing 3 whole years later and that didn't hurt its BO one single bit.
  14. LMAO where's that 700M figure pulled out of? Like what calculation takes into account the "smaller" BatB animated film having a higher grossing live action remake than the bigger Aladdin to apply to TLM on a 1:1 basis? Anyways TLM's DOM heavy performance gives it higher returns vs. MI. And as for toys being irrelevant, tell that to the Cars franchise where they just kept making films to churn out merchandise until they found out they didn't need the movies at all.
  15. Lee had also doctored the script for the first Wreck-It Ralph which got her the gig to rewrite Frozen and then co-direct the film in the first place. She seems to be much better at revising a pre-existing script than creating something from ground up.
  16. Yeah, Saltburn may not be the second coming but Scott has been mid to terrible with blockbusters for more than a decade now. Disappointing borderline fresh or downright rotten review percentage for Gladiator 2 incoming. Keoghan ain't losing sleep. He's happy he got to be in close contact with Jacob Elordi
  17. You're working off the assumption that hiring Gunn is surely going to pay off dividends for DC... which doesn't seem to be a lock considering he has the same strategy as DC 2023 of pushing obscure D-List characters (including stuffing his Superman movie with them) Also, announcing the reboot right on the MONDAY AFTER BLACK ADAM'S OW is probably the dumbest decision ever seeing how it immediately crippled THAT movie's legs too. Considering the hit piece published in The Wrap against Dwayne Johnson, the timing stinks of corporate politics too. I'm not convinced they didn't go about doing this in one of the worst possible ways.
  18. Thunderbolts is what the team is named tho? How is it different than Guardians or Eternals?
  19. I first came to know of this story through a Hallmark murder mystery movie starring Kellie Martin that also loosely adapted it, but in an even more bizarre way with Aunt Zelda from the 90's Sabrina the Teenage Witch show playing the Anne Perry character years after the incidents depicted in Heavenly Creatures, now grown up and a famous recluse author like her real life counterpart, with her friend being her overlooked assistant and ghostwriter.
  20. Ppl saying Wonder Woman being a hit was a problem for WB execs as if Barbie would have seen the light of day if it had flopped.
  21. Depends on how Netflix ATLA live action remake does I guess. As a whole, Cartoon Network may get the short end of the stick as opposed to Nick in this scenario.
  22. Let's be real tho. The entirely empty holiday season did a lot of the heavy lifting. Poor Dead Reckoning wishes it opened last December (or even this December)
  23. Also whatever the heck went on in the meeting with Gal Gadot. That's two actors now who pretty much claim Gunn flat out lied or at least deliberately used confusing semantics in two different instances offline, so I'm not sure him being this vocal online is a good thing. Having said that, I'm usually cool with official sources debunking rumors. With Gunn's murky track record though, I won't be surprised if he's passing off things that were actually once part of the plan as completely baseless rumors. This is the second time he's debunked a reputed trade, right? That NEVER happens so you've got to wonder.
  24. The Archie Comics account has been tweeting up a storm about it. Been intending to check it out over the weekend.
