This is probably your best bet. http://www.screenaustralia.gov.au/research/statistics/cinema.aspxAlthough it only updates each January. Lots of different bits of data on that website.
It's now at AUD4,562,125 in Australia and will probably hit USD5m this weekend if it has a similar hold to last weekend. It will probably lose most of its screens by Boxing Day so I suspect a finish around $5.6-5.8m Aussie Dollars. Might just hit USD6m
A big difference in the conversion to USD now as well.http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=AUD&to=USD&view=10YThat will help the Australian contribution to the overseas numbers.
It will be interesting to see how much Les Mis impacts TH. Its already crowded out the more expensive theatre capacity that would have been exclusive to the TH if they'd opened on separate weekends.
I've seen both. I would say they're fairly comparable. I suppose it would have been easier to suspend your disbelief with the premise of the 80's version(I did first watch it in the 80's and several times since) then it is with 2010-12 version. I still don't understand why they didn't just keep the invaders as the Chinese. It would have made far more sense on just practical grounds and its not as if it was ever getting released in China. The original had better character development. The new version has a more urban setting and better production values. If you enjoyed the original I'd give the new one at least one viewing.
I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion when it was on SBS here back in the 90's. Is the Evangelion film series basically a re-telling of the TV series but with better animation and a more consistent plot?
I would have thought Thor and The Avengers because of the extremely believable portrayal of the relationship between Thor and Loki. The love that dare not speak its name.
CBS has commissioned a straight to series 13 part season of Under the Dome. Based on the book by Stephen King. The first episode is to be directed by TGWTDT director Niels Arden Oplev. He previously directed the pilot for Unforgettable and 2 further episodes. The series is due to air next summer.http://www.deadline....plev-to-direct/An interesting note is that Under the Dome features a couple of references to Jack Reacher.
Event/GU is selling tickets for Sat/Sun at most theatres. It will probably be technically classified as previews as there are no further shows until Boxing Day.
Les Mis is opening earlier now on Saturday 22nd December. Also, from Boxing Day half the VMAX screens at Event Cinemas are going to Les Mis and half to The Hobbit. Consider that the opening weekends of BD2 and Skyfall had all the VMAX screens to themselves.
I'm just used to watching foreign language movies/TV shows with subtitles. Don't really have much access to dubbed foreign language material. Everything on SBS or the World Movies channel is subtitled.
