#67 (another big fall...)

67. Saving Private Ryan

LYR: 28

Steven Spielberg, 1998

Nominated for 11 Oscars, won 5

44 points

"This time the mission is the man."

Synopsis: Following the Normandy Landings, a group of U.S. soldiers go behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in action.

Trivia: Edward Norton was offered the role of Private Ryan, but turned it down.

#66 (a fairly big jump)

66. Gladiator

LYR: 59

Ridley Scott, 2000

Nominated for 12 Oscars, won 5

45 points

"Are you not entertained?"

Synopsis: When a Roman general is betrayed and his family murdered by an emperor's corrupt son, he comes to Rome as a gladiator to seek revenge.

Trivia: Jennifer Lopez auditioned for the role of Lucilla.

#65

65. L,A. Confidential

LYR: 85

Curtis Hanson, 1997

Nominated for 9 Oscars, won 2

45 points

"Come to Los Angeles! The sun shines bright, the beaches are wide and inviting, and the orange groves stretch as far as the eye can see. There are jobs aplenty, and land is cheap. Every working man can have his own house, and inside every house, a happy, all-American family. You can have all this, and who knows... you could even be discovered, become a movie star... or at least see one. Life is good in Los Angeles... it's paradise on Earth." Ha ha ha ha. That's what they tell you, anyway."

Synopsis: As corruption grows in 1950s LA, three policemen - the straight-laced, the brutal, and the sleazy - investigate a series of murders with their own brand of justice.

Trivia: To pitch the movie to backers (and, later, to explain his aesthetic ideas about it to various cast and crew members), director Curtis Hanson put together a group of 18 period images illustrating different aspects of what he hoped to convey with the movie.

#64 (riczhang's meltdown continues)

64. Citizen Kane

LYR: 53

Orson Welles, 1941

Nominated for 9 Oscars, won 1

45 points

"Rosebud."

Synopsis: Following the death of a publishing tycoon, news reporters scramble to discover the meaning of his final utterance.

Trivia: William Randolph Hearst was so angered by the film that he accused Orson Welles of being a Communist in order to keep the film from being released.

Thank God I did not submit a top 100 because I would have forgotten L.A. Confidential.  Suck on it Citizen Kane and SPR.  :D
