Indian Box Office Thread | Jawan overtakes Pathaan, becomes highest grossing Indian movie of 2023

Recommended Posts

Happy New Year second day collections are around 29 Cr! A huge drop! I expected the Saturday fig to be at least 32 Cr. This is what happens when a film over-performs on opening day. :P

Friday: 40 Cr
Saturday: 29 Cr

Total : 69 Cr

What are your predictions for Sunday?

Is this at least a bit entertaining like Om Shanti Om?

That movie was melodramatic however the film had a lot self awareness jokes that were a novelty.

Also making fun of stereotypes and many actors and seeing many actors on the screen.

Happy New Year has many things but Entertainment is sadly not one of them! :/

HNY vs D-3 comparison:

Producer figures:

HNY: 108.86 (104.10 Hindi + 4.76 Tamil/Telugu)

D-3 : 107.61 (100.76 Hindi + 6.85 Tamil/Telugu)

Trade figures:

HNY: 100.0 (97.0 Hindi + 3.0 Tamil/Telugu)

D-3 : 102.0 (95.0 Hindi + 7.0 Tamil/Telugu)

So the Hindi version definitely broke the record, according to both the sources.

However, for all-india gross (including regional versions), there is a contradiction. According to Trade figures, Dhoom 3 still holds the record, but according to the producers, it broke the record (duh! not really shocking). I'd just call it a tie, since the difference is not too significant either way.

Daily trend comparison

Producer Figures(All-India*)

Day - HNY - D3 - CE

0** - N/A N/A 6.75

1 - 44.97 36.22 33.12

2 - 31.52 33.36 28.05

3 - 32.36 38.03 32.50

* Including regional versions, Chennai Express released only in Hindi

** Thursday previews

HNY's Sunday is actually lower than CE. It has only 8 crore lead so far. Additionally, CE had a holiday on Thursday which added 10 crore+ extra to the gross. So it is very possible that HNY finishes below CE.

It will be a huge disappointment if HNY cant even cross CE.

WHAT THE FUCK?

Christopher Nolan coming to IIT BOMBAY!?!?!?!?!

If true, how the hell did they manage it? Amazing.

Dafuq? How did they manage this? Nolan barely makes appearances outside of promoting his movies. Maybe a former IITB alumnus now finds himself in a production capacity involving Nolan or something.

BOI saying ~13.5 Monday. I'd guess it comes in at 13ish. Another 30-32 from the rest of the week it would be at around 145. Maybe 25ish on the 2nd weekend coming off a 10 cr Thursday. 12-15 from the weekdays and its at 182-185. Might end up crawling by 200
