Ten Years Ago This Week!

Recommended Posts

This thread needs updating!  :P Not even thinking about the fact that it just celebrated its ten-year anniversary, I was talking about Master & Commander with some friends on Friday, specifically in response to why it never got a sequel despite the abundant source material yet to be adapted. It's understandable when one looks at the finances - the first one had a massive $150 million budget, and made an unspectacular $211 million worldwide - but the source material is there and the movie did nab 10 Oscar nominations. I'd certainly pay to see a sequel, even though the chances of it being a financial success are minimal.

I loooooooove Master and Commander. It's really disappointing we didn't get another one of those.

What makes it particularly sad is that there's a natural trilogy arc that could be pulled from the rest of the books. It would've involved a scandal that forced Aubrey to resign his commission from the Navy -- just about as dark and bleak a thing that could ever happen to an officer like him. And yet, Maturin comes into some money through his family and purchases the Surprise, hiring Aubrey back as its Captain. They manage to get a letter of marque and roam the seas as privateers, managing to win enough glory to reinstate Aubrey in the Navy, to great acclaim. Throw in the backstory of Maturin actually being a spy against Bonaparte and you have a kickass arc that would take us through two more movies.

Why did bad Santa get released a year later here in the UK? (Might try and watch it again over Christmas)Also I accidentally did this (well only 8 days earlier). I was ill so I watched two weeks notice for the first time. A great film. A-
