“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
―Ralph Waldo Emerson

The year is 2085. A boy is looking down at his (rather futuristic) cellphone, and he is surrounded by other students. All of them are seated in an auditorium, all wearing the same black and grey uniforms. He continues looking at his phone, until he is hit in the back by a man in a suit, who looks at him sternly. “Elliott, this is not okay.” Elliott nods fearfully, and he turns to face forward again. We see the headmaster of Griswell Academy, a 70-sometime man, come up to address the class. Everyone is in complete silence and upright position, and Elliott looks around and decides that he must match his peers. The man, who is introduced as James Thurgood, begins to speak in a strict voice. While He is speaking, though, it is actually a montage of 5 different headmasters of Griswell, one in 1846, 1913, 1964, Y5, and 2073, respectively. They are all speaking to classes of people in their early 20s, all wearing variations of similar uniforms. They all have the same design of black and gray. Note the still similar (and slightly gothic) setting with each time period.

“Obedience. Wisdom. Strength. Unity. These are the ideal values of all students of Griswell Academy. Ever since the dawn of the 19th century, we have made each student become so much more than they would at any other academy, by maximizing the potential of each student. We do understand that the human body is limited, and exceeding in one area must lead to decreases in others. Here at Griswell Academy, we sacrifice our own selfish, dark, desires in order to be excellent beings and live the most gratifying lives that all of us can. Some may believe that this is too much of a trade, but we digress.

Now that you have spent 20 years at this academy, from the approval of your families, we believe that you are ready to enter the world of reality and live to an optimal level. Using a very special elixir developed 200 years ago and fine tuned ever since, you will drink it and be able to have your best characteristics flourish. You are all to have this tonic every day, and we will send you new elixirs weekly. When you continue with this drink, you will find greatness within yourself, while adhering to the standards of contemporary society. While greatness is a virtue, we need not alienate ourselves from others. I am confident that you are all ready to become heroes to the world.”

The five speakers conclude their speech, but we focus on four people other than Elliott. There is Jeremy (1848), Sandra (1915), Peter (1966), and Maya (Y7). The students all applaud without any immature cheering and they all stand uniformly. There were around 100 to 150 of them for each time period. All of the students, save the discrepancies in facial appearance, all look like near clones of each other. We see Elliott clapping along less enthusiastically, and the camera fades to black.

THE ACADEMY

1848

We see many people, all in the typical attire of the age, going about their business in Boston, Massachusetts.  The sets here are lavishly set up to create a distinct feel for the city. There is a horse drawn carriage driving down the street, with a 27-year old man and an older man sitting inside. The younger man, Jeremy, had been asked by the old man, whose name is George Jacobson, to act as a lawyer to him in a case of theft. George Jacobson has had many valuables stolen from his home, and he accused Roger Steinman, a young African American man who came to the streets of Boston to escape a life of slavery, of committing the crime. Jeremy is given a letter from George that fully explains the whole situation. George also promises that if he gets Roger arrested, he will pay him greatly. Jeremy is a little hesitant at first, but he decides that he will work with George, as money was hard to come by for him in recent times.

That night, George arrives at his home, which is a fairly nice place considering how he hasn’t made significant sums of money from his job yet. However, he is the only person living there, save the exception of his cat. He sometimes laments the fact that he must live alone, but he is confident that he will find someone to be with. . He takes a drink of the Griswell Elixir, and he continues to do his own personal work by examining the letter that George had given him.

1915

In San Francisco, California, we see a large group of women preparing to do a march on the city streets. They are all currently in the lobby of an elegant hotel, preparing their picket signs as they prepare to march down the street. They are all part of the historic campaign to secure women’s’ suffrage in the United States. We see one woman, a  43-year old girl named Becky, rallying the fellow activists to prepare for the march. She tells all of them that with their efforts, they may be able to create history through this movement, and that their fruits of labor will pay off soon. They all cheer for Becky, and one of the activists comes up to talk to her. Her name is Sandra, the girl who was at Griswell Academy. She is worried about the opposition that she will receive, and how some people are very opposed to the idea of women suffrage. Becky tells her that this is always the case, and how every movement faces some opposition, but she is confident that they will achieve a deserved victory at the end of it all. Sandra smiles at her, turning to herself once again.

Sandra has a flashback of the man whom she is living with, Billy. He is an aggressive man with bad drinking habits, and he was often a destructive person.  On a previous night, she got into a fight with him about this protest. Billy told her that women shouldn’t have the right to vote, and she ought to know her place. She lamented the fact that she was helpless and did very little at the time, but she knows the reason for this. She gets something out from the pocket of her jacket: a small bottle of the Griswell Elixir.

1966

We see a line of soldiers at a military base. Among them is Peter, the student mentioned earlier at Griswell Academy in 1964. He was drafted to go to war in Vietnam, being the only one in his class at Griswell Academy to do so. He and his fellow soldiers are met with a strict, intimidating military general, who tells them about what they will have to go through in Vietnam. Peter adheres to the many requests that the general throws at him, and while he is intimidated by the general slightly, he knows that he will impress him at one time or another. After the general dismisses them, telling them that they will move into Vietnam in one day’s time, everyone relaxes.

Peter is seen hanging out with some of the fellow soldiers at a lounge, and one of them is playing card tricks with the other. His name is Tony. Tony asks Peter if he wants to join their game, and he insists that he’s fine. Peter asks him again, trying to coax him to play with him, but Peter insists that he wants to get some early rest, having a drink of the Griswell Elixir. He then says to himself how he’s finally being able to live out his dream of serving in the armed forces and bringing safety to his nation, and how he would make his family proud.

Y8

We see the rush of busy cars all over New York City, and we see a beautiful girl, Maya, trying to run across the street. We can tell that she is running late for something, and she is clearly very nervous about it. We soon find out that she is working as an intern for a book publishing company to help pay for her living in New York City and go on to become a successful writer. She is treated well at work, but she doesn’t appear to have any special characteristics. She is just a generic worker, just like everyone else. She sometimes tries to do something funny or clever, but she always ends up restraining herself.

That night, she is seen going to a party at a large studio apartment. Many young people are there, getting moderately drunk and having a good time. At the party, she meets up with her best friend, Penny. The two have been smitten with each other ever since Maya came to the city, but Penny doesn’t know about Maya’s education. Penny may actually have some very deep feelings for Maya. Maya and Penny spend the night talking casually, and Penny tells Maya that she actually really likes her, but she might like her more than she imagined. Maya smiles, but she suddenly has a restraint of emotion. She soon says that she has to go, and she leaves the party. Penny tries to stop her and ask what’s wrong, but Maya tells her that she is fine, looking at the elixir in her pocket as she walks out of the door.

2081

We see a young man, recognized as Elliott, walking down the street of a very futuristic Chicago, along with many other people. All of them are wearing black, white, and grey clothing, and the streets are heavily guarded. We see a different man being beaten up by some of the guards, and he is being force fed the very same elixir that was drunken by the Griswell Academy students. There are large holographic ads covering the city, telling everyone to take their elixirs daily or be punished by law. Common in these ads is a photograph of President Carson, the cruel dictator of the land that was the United States. The holograph technology allows him to show his sinister voice, commanding the people below. In the 8 years since Elliott had left the academy, the nation was soon ruthlessly controlled by someone who became obsessed with the elixir, a former Griswell student, forcing the entire nation’s populace to take it as well and create his definition of an ideal society.

Elliott checks his cell phone, and there is a text message on it. “I’ve got the address. You’re welcome.” An address for some unidentified place soon follows, and Elliott smiles. However, in a few moments afterwards, Elliott is soon stopped by some of the guards, who wear masks that completely conceal their faces, giving blue light as they talk. The guard tells Elliott that he did not detect a trace of Griswell Elixir in his breath. Elliot, pausing for a moment, runs in the opposite direction, plowing through the general civilians until he is pursued and stopped by the aggressive guards, planted aggressively onto the ground. He is forced fed the elixir, and he is warned that if he is detected without having taken the elixir again, he will be arrested. Elliot says that he understands, and he walks off, as if his personality had greatly changed. Soon, we see Elliott walk into a corner, drinking a counter-elixir that he had produced with some of his friends, and he takes a motorcycle through the city alley, to an unspecified destination.

1915

The activists for women’s suffrage are all parading down the street, without m, all chanting, “One Three Five! Seven Nine! Women’s Suffrage - Now’s The Time!” As the women marched down the street of San Francisco, there were many enthusiastic women in the crowd, as well as many cheering progressives. However, there were also many critics in the crowd, who were booing as they walked by and some going so far as to throw things at them. Sandra looked at these people with much fear, but she tried very hard to keep her head strong and move forward. There are a variety of shots in these scenes, such as wide shots of the City Street and close-ups of Sandra.

The parade soon comes to an end, and everyone seems a bit exhausted. Becky tells them all that they did a very good job, but that there are still a lot of narrow minded people in this city. They need to bring them over to their side if they are to secure women the right to vote. Everyone soon disbands, including Sandra.

Y7

At a small club in the city, Maya is seen drinking casually with Penny. Maya is controlling herself and minimizing the amount that she drinks. Penny continues to talk to Maya casually, as if the two were sisters. Their conversation is rather humorous, with Penny and her friends making wisecracks throughout. Penny tells Maya that she’s moved into a lovely new apartment, and she wants Maya to be one of the first people to see it. She offers Maya the chance to go to this apartment. Maya looks at Penny, telling her that she would love to come and visit, and how they could leave right from here. However, Maya says that she needs to use the bathroom first.

Maya soon goes into the bar’s restroom, covered in writings and drawings on the wall. She pulls out the Griswell Elixir again, looking at it closely. She had true feelings for Penny, and she felt the same way about her. However, the Griswell Elixir’s strict code of living and conformity to societal standards would never allow her to take this. Still, she had been warned repeatedly that swaying from the elixir would lead to bad things happening. It was right then, that she decided that she was done living off what the world wanted of her. She was finally going to live for herself. She pours out the contents of the bottle into the sink, and she throws it away aggressively. This was going to be her first night of true freedom. Note that the sound of the bottle crashing creates a transition to a battlefield in 1960s Vietnam.

1967

We see a helicopter hovering over a grassy field in Vietnam, as Peter and his fellow soldiers are all inside, prepared to face the horrors of war. Peter is sitting next to Tony, who has become a good friend of his over his time leading up to the war. Peter has a drink of the bottle, believing that it will help him excel in combat, and he prepares the others to go into fight. He grabs his weapon as the helicopter hits the landing point, and the soldiers jump out. They wander around the jungle, waiting to find the Vietnamese forces, and they eventually come across their enemy, and an all-out battle soon unfolds.

The scene is very intense, with many quick shots of the violence in the battlefield. One key aspect of this scene is Peter’s surprising strength in battle. He is a skilled marksman, able to hit targets easily at far distances, and he is also proving to be a strong tactician, able to devise plans for battle and his men on the fly when the current strategies are not working. As the battle progresses, the men are able to hold their own, and a US victory in this battle seems very likely. However, Peter soon finds that Tony is caught in a dangerous place. He had been shot in the leg, and he needs medical assistance as soon as possible. Peter grabs Tony, and he tries to help him back up, requesting to the nearby camp to get medical assistance ready.

Using the strategies advised by Peter, the US forces are able to etch out a victory in the battle, and Peter had also managed to get Tony to the medical camp. The doctor says that Tony’s injury is quite bleak, but it can be fixed up using what they have. Right before a military doctor comes to work on him, he tells Peter, “Peter….you saved my life.” Peter nods and smiles at him, saying, “All in the day’s work of a soldier.”

1848

We see the gavel banging on a courtroom, where many people are watching an accusation of theft unfold. Jeremy stands with George Jacobson in the courtroom, opposite the man accused of the crime, Roger Steinman. He looks at Jeremy with a face of misery and sadness. He could see the tears coming down his face. The case soon commences, and Jeremy finds that he is being forced, within his own self as a result of the Griswell elixir, to remain steady in making the case against Roger. He soon stops with a cold breath once he has finished. The people in the room applaud Jeremy, but he actually feels rather upset and even uncomfortable.

Roger, on the other hand, is rather poor, and he cannot afford a decent lawyer. Rather, he insists tearfully that he was innocent, and that they have the wrong man. Still, it does very little, and Roger is convicted to a harsh jail sentence. After the trail and outside of the court that night, Jeremy is presented with a large check in compensation for his work, and he accepts it. However, he cannot shake this feeling that  Roger was an innocent man, and he did know that George Jacobson was known for being a racist man.

2081

In the outskirts of the futuristic Chicago, Elliott drives his motorcycle down the strip of a city alleyway, soon stopping it and getting off at a door. He walks up to it, performs an special knock on the door, and he says an elaborate password, “Hopscotch. Foxtrot. Everything ends today.” He is soon let in and greeted by a fellow youth, who welcomes him back to the club once again. Inside the door is a large group of young people, playing games and drinking, but they all stop once Elliott enters, soon cheering for his entry. Elliot soon gets up onto the table, telling everyone that the next meeting of the Valiance Movement is commencing. We soon find out that this is a movement of youth revolutionaries to overthrow the corrupt rule of President Carson and end the misery of the Griswell Elixir. These revolutionaries are known as The Individuals.

He tells everyone that an associate of his tells him that they will be able to find information about President Carson at the place where the horror began: Griswell Academy. Apparently, it was abandoned once President Carson took over, because now that everyone in the nation was under the control of the elixir, it served no purpose. However, there is still an archive of all students who attended Griswell in the school’s 250 year lifetime, and that he could find something to challenge Carson. He needs to create a team of five others to accompany him on this journey, and that they hope to find something critical. He easily gets 5 volunteers, as his leadership and charisma is truly leaving an impression on these students.

1967

The applause for Elliott soon transitions to cheering for Peter’s heroic leadership in the battle. His battling skill was unlike anything the soldiers have ever seen before, and that the military will consider promoting him to general if his skill keeps up. Peter tells everyone that he will always to the most that he can for the people close to him, and how the war of the age can be won. Peter soon returns to his private bunk, taking drinks of the elixir. Believing that his great skill comes from this bottle, he keeps drinking it, refusing to hold up.

Tony walks in on Peter drinking the elixir, and he asks about what he’s drinking. Peter insists that it’s just a bottle of soda that he brought in, trying hard not to lie to his friend. However, Tony suspects that he might be lying, and he asks again, but he insists that he is just curious. He’s not even going to tell the general if it’s something like alcohol. However, Peter becomes angry, telling him to forget about it, and that what he does is none of his concern. Tony is surprised and a bit worried about Peter, as he has never acted like this before. Peter tells Tony to go away out of seemingly uncontrolled anger, and Tony backs away slowly, feeling off-put by the behavior of his new friend. Peter looks at the bottle of the elixir once again, and he continues to drink. He didn’t want to scare off Tony, but he had become so obsessed with it that he wouldn’t let any other soul even know that he has it.

1915

Sandra arrives in her home with her boyfriend, Billy. Billy has been drinking, and he asks Sandra where she had been in a rather aggressive manner. Sandra, feeling not in control of what she is saying, admits that she was at that protest. After a pause, Billy soon loses his temper, telling Sandra that whatever she does, she’s never going to make her stupid dream a reality. That, and she lied about where she was going today. The social order in the world is there for a reason, and he can’t believe that he decided to be with someone who didn’t understand it at all. He hits Sandra, knocking her to the floor. There is a pause of complete silence.  In this pause, something snaps within Sandra. She was tired of putting up with her boyfriend.

Sandra, now starting to lose her temper as well, tells Billy that she is tired of how he can just tell her what to do at every situation, and how she wouldn’t take it anymore. The two get into a heated verbal argument after Sandra works her way back up, moving towards the kitchen. In their fight, she grabs a knife and drives it through Billy’s chest. Blood comes out of Billy’s shocked mouth, and he soon falls to the floor, struggling for air. Sandra, looking at Billy and covered in blood, looks at what she had done with an expression of pure horror. She was tired of his bigotry and abusiveness, but she was not ever convinced that he deserved to die for it. She had never done such a shocking thing before in her life, and it was a certainty that the police would find out and eventually sentence her to death. She drops the blood covered knife to the ground and as it lands, the noise transitions to the sound of a horse drawn carriage at night.

1848

George decides to invite Jeremy over for a feast, where he had decided to hold a party to celebrate the fact that justice has been delivered upon him. There are several elegant people present at the party, and Jeremy is able to socialize with a few of them. At the central feast of the evening, George decides to make this celebration a toast to a young man named Jeremy, someone who would find truth in any situation and be able to find the scum of the world, and there was a round of applause. After the meal however, Jeremy slips into George’s central quarters to examine a few things. Much to his relief, he is undetected in doing so.

He looks at the desk of George Jacobson, and he finds his personal journal in a box. He decides to take a look at some of the recent entries, but they all discuss how heartbroken George was to have his valuables stolen by some street urchin. Jeremy flips through the pages of the journal, but he finds nothing against George. This may have been in case some police officers wanted to do an additional search of evidence. What he does find, however, is a box accidentally left open, and a letter inside of it, and he decides to take it out. In this letter, George talks about how thrilled he is that he was able to set up Roger as a thief in order to get back at him for winning much money off of him at a gambling contest. He goes so far as to write about how he got a naïve and pathetic young lawyer to actually believe that he was truly guilty. Jeremy feels heartbroken and betrayed upon reading this. “Enjoying ourselves, are we?” A voice from behind calls out to Jeremy, who turns around to see this man, who opens the door to the study. It was none other than George Jacobson himself. George slams the door behind him, while another door opens in a modern city.

Immediately after, Penny opens the door to her beautiful new apartment, and she lets Maya inside. Penny begins to show her around, pointing out all of the cool things that she didn’t have before in her old apartment. She mainly likes how she has significantly more space than she did at her old place. Maya is pretty fascinated by the place, and she has a seat on Penny’s couch, who soon goes to join her after getting out a few hours d’ourves for the two to enjoy, setting her iPhone to play “Dancing In The Moonlight” in the background. They continue to sit on the couch and talk, while Maya soon decides that she wants to say something that she never had the courage to say for so long. “Penny…” Maya says nervously, “…I think I love you.”

Penny is surprised to hear this, as she was convinced that her personal love for her was one sided. Penny smiles, and tells Maya that the feeling was mutual. Maya is worried that neither of their parents are going to like this, but Penny places her fingers on her lips. “If we tried to conform to what the man to the left wants us to be, then we wouldn’t make any progress at all, now would we?” Maya nods, thinking about what Penny had just said. Maya then said, “I’m tired of trying to be someone I’m not, so I’m ending it all now.” She soon leans in to Penny’s lips, and she kisses her.  The two soon begin to embrace each other, kissing on the couch while “Dancing In The Moonlight” continues to play in the background. They continue to kiss passionately as Maya rubs her hands down Penny’s body, and they continue to embrace, feeling happier and freer than they have felt in a very long time.

2081

We see the music come to an intense stop on a heavily stormy day in a New England forest. We see a van pull up to the gates of an abandoned school, Griswell Academy, and we see a man in night vision goggles destroy the lock on the gate so that the van could proceed and get closer to the academy. The van soon pulls up to the academy, which is the same, somewhat gothic building that it always was. Elliott steps out of the van, telling the others to follow. They found a way inside the academy, and their new step was to locate the Griswell Archives.

The six revolutionaries walked through the halls of the academy, which can be seen covered in rain and dirt, almost like something from a post-apocalyptic movie. They stop when they hear someone breathing heavily in a nearby room. Elliott pulls out his gun and tells the others to wait outside of the room. He kicks the door open, and he sees candles lit around the room. He looks around the room, and he finds an old man sitting at a desk. He begs Elliott not to shoot him, and that he wants all of this to end as well. Elliott takes off his goggles and puts down his gun, believing that he can trust the man.

The old man introduces himself as James Thurgood, and Elliott, recognizing that he was the old headmaster of the academy, pulls his gun back, ready to fire. James insists that he has changed, begging to be spared, but Elliott is still cautious around him. James goes on to say that he now realizes that the idea of this academy was a true mistake, and he sincerely regrets the work that he had done here. “This was a place where we sacrificed individuality, dreams, and hopes, in order to great above-par people in contemporary society. We had believed that this trade off was worth it, but I was never so wrong in my life.”

It turns out that Andrew Carson was one of James Thurgood’s favorite students, and he believed in the Griswell ideals whole heartedly. He also believed that the world was a terrible place, full of selfish people who were destroying society. He soon realized that he had to take control of the nation, and he ruthlessly took power in a matter of years, becoming the ruthless leader who he is today. In the start of this reign of terror, I realized that with one student having gone too far, and that this entire academy was a mistake.” James continues on the verge of tears. “I knew many sad stories of students at this place.”

1848

Jeremy begins yell at George for having lied to him and convincing him to put an innocent man behind bars. George tells Jeremy that Roger was a bad person. “A gambler, a drunkard, and an unproductive worker. If only he had gone to Griswell, much like yourself.” It was at this moment when Jeremy realized that George was exploiting the fact that Jeremy would be a powerful conformist to society as a result of the elixir that he had taken. George had apparently been one of the few people to know about the academy. Jeremy confronts him, but George grabs his arm, forcing him to destroy the letter. Jeremy pauses, soon finding himself forced to obey. “As you wish, Mr. Jacobson.” Jeremy walks over to the fireplace in the study, throwing the letter into the fire.

Over the next few days, Jeremy is seen continuing to receive work as a lawyer to several clients, and no one had found out about the crime being a complete set up as a result of Mr. Jacobson’s narrow minded negative perception of Roger Steinman, who was now sitting in a prison cell with several other convicts, all of whom were more guilty and despicable than him. Even though the elixir allows him to live up to his upmost potential as a lawyer, he feels ashamed for doing nothing to bring to rest a cruel act of intolerance and deception.

1915

A woman being led down a prison hallway be several guards: Sandra. She is wearing a white dress, and there  is a blank expression on her face. She is brought to a hanging gallow, where he has been sentenced to death for the murder of Billy Simon. The other people waiting in the white room are the several officers of law and also Becky. Becky wishes to talk to Sandra one last time before she is hanged. She asks Sandra through her tears that it’s hard for her to truly by upset with Sandra, considering that Billy was a very abusive husband. Sandra tells her, with an upset tone of voice but without any crying, that she shouldn’t have done this. The two hug each other, just before Sandra is escorted to the gallow.

Moments before she is hung, Sandra thinks for a moment, about how she will finally break free with her death, and how she can finally be at peace. “The world will bring fortune to those who need and strive for it most,” she says in a confident, yet quiet, voice. The floor soon falls beneath her, and her feet are seen dangling at a close shot, showing no more of Sandra’s now lifeless body. We still, however, see a smile on Sandra’s face, indicating that she had died happily.

1967

The head general of Peter’s squadron find the bottle of elixirs inside Peter’s bag, and he suspects that it is alcohol. Peter is called into the office of the general, where he is implicitly yelled at. All that is shown are the many fellow soldiers of Peter waiting outside, worrying about what is happening to him. Tony, however, looks down in sadness, about how he was worried that he would get caught if something shady was in that bottle. Peter is ultimately relieved of duty, and he is escorted to a helicopter. On the helicopter ride, Peter looks outside, showing anger that no one understood what was in that bottle.

He continues to take the elixir heavily, although he does not find the results to be as satisfying. He ends up becoming a cold, cynical man, who alienated those around him. He was unable to find a decent job, eventually having to settle with a cheap paying job at a grocery store. Many of his co workers are scared of the unstable behavior of Peter, whose obsession with the elixir had turned him into the man that the elixir tried to protect himself from. Deep down, however, he is heartbroken at the loss of his chance of living his dream of being the nation’s most valiant soldier. But alas, that dream was no more.

The parents of Penny had found out about her relationship with Maya, and they are very furious about it. The parents talk to Penny at the restaurant with Maya, telling her that they will not let the two stay together. While Penny is upset and tries to reason with them, her dad will not listen, telling his daughter that he did not raise her to grow up like this. Maya, however, decides that she will not take it anymore, and she finally tells the two parents off. She starts off at a normal voice, criticizing the parents for their refusal to let the daughter choose how to live. The parents become annoyed, but Maya continues to defend Penny, but more aggressively. She curses in front of the whole restaurant in front of the parents, telling her that they’re killing the girl she wants to be.

This outburst just confirms the parents’ dislike of Maya, and the next scene actually shows Penny packing her bags. Her parents are making her move away to another city, one where “that crazed hippie bitch” won’t try to corrupt her. Penny tells Maya that she is sorry about all of this, and that her father was always a controlling person. Maya tells her that she can relate. Penny wants to know more, but Maya requests that they not get into it. The two soon kiss, and Penny soon goes to the apartment lobby to leave the city. As she drives away, she sees Maya, looking blankly at her, from the sidewalk. At work, she feels empty, lacking the energy she had before. The only solace that Maya has is that one night she abandoned her elixir, and how she truly loved Penny, but that didn’t matter now. She had another drink of her elixir, feeling emptier than before.

2081

Back inside the room where James and Elliott are, James gives Elliott a master key to all of the rooms in the academy to find information about Andrew Carson. As he finishes speaking, however, he is shot in the chest, with the bullet apparently coming from behind James. Elliott gasps in horror as James falls to the ground, and he sees a man accompanied by two armed bodyguards walk up to him. Elliott picks up his gun as he sees the man who arrives into the light. He is a fair haired man with a somewhat sinister appearance, and he also has a dark suit. “James Carson, at your service.”

Elliott points his gun at the president, while the president and his two bodyguards do the same for Elliott. “What the hell are you doing here?” Elliott asks the leader. “I’m afraid that’s none of your concern. Besides, I should be asking you the same question. Did you really think that I would remain blissfully unaware of a revolution that could destroy my entire empire? Yet, I am a reasonable man. I’d like to make a case as to why it would not be productive for me to simply send a bullet through your body at this very moment.”

The other five soon come into the room having heard the gunshot, but the two bodyguard aim their guns at them, as Cromwell tells them that they are close enough. “I know who you are,” said Elliott, “cynical, angry, heartless.” Carson corrects him, saying that he is destined to be the savior of humanity, and if sacrifices must be made to attain individual greatness, then so be it. Humans were absolutely conformist deep down, after all, so it isn’t like I’m taking away so much of our own lives. That certainly wasn’t what the parents of the children here were thinking.

Elliott tells him that he is wrong, and that there were so many tales of agony in the lives of Griswell students: injustice (Jeremy), violent opposition (Sandra),  dishonor (Peter), and heartbreak. (Maya) “Stop harboring the illusion that you’re making these lives better.” Carson remains unconvinced, telling him that he is immature, and that he will never learn. The unhappiness of these people was their own faults. Elliott soon looks at his gun and pulls it out, saying that he asked nicely. Elliott then shoots and kills Carson, although he is shot repeatedly by the two guards. As Carson and Elliott lay dead on the floor, a firefight erupts between the five revolutionaries and the two guards. The two guards are quickly defeated.

Before the five remaining revolutionaries move out, they mourn the fatal wounds that Elliott received. Elliott utters a few last words, pulling an explosive out of his pocket that James had given to him. “Destroy this place. Blow it to the sky,” are his last words. They all know what this means. The five of them go outside, a significant distance away from the academy, with the detonator for the bomb in hand. The one with the detonator says, “Hopscotch. Foxtrot. Everything ends today,” pressing the trigger of the bomb. With this sound, the bomb goes off at the academy, and the fire burns through the building in slow motion. One shot shows the fiery explosion coming over the bodies of Andrew Carson, Elliott, and James Thurgood. The five of them remain looking at the fire from afar.

We then see a montage of life in a matter of days, set to calm piano music, of the forceful screens showing propaganda in each city, shutting down, and large amounts of the Griswell Elixir coming down the sewers. The revolutionaries are celebrating in their private club, while also mourning the death of their leader, and people are seen celebrating and dancing in the streets. It was truly going to be a better day for all in the nation. There are also moments of the lives of Peter, Maya, Sandra, and Jeremy, before their lives began to deteriorate. These, after all, were just some of the hundreds of stories

James Thurgood, who narrated the monologue in the first scene, narrates the final monologue in the film:  “I have learned about just how incredible the human spirit truly is. For each person, it is a unique code that defines hopes, dreams, personalities, and more. Who are we to try and take what makes each person special away? To force them to protect themselves against the occasional harshness of society? Yes, we can alienate others and find that we make big mistakes, but what is important is that we don’t live how others tell us to. In fact, the true heroes are the world are the ones not afraid to set things right. Elliott was a hero, and I am ashamed to have taken so long to realize this. I was not open to the belief that we must decide for ourselves how to live our lives. But now, I know better.

As the monologue comes to an end, we return to the destruction of Griswell Academy. Back in the rainy forest a few days, the fire from the explosion was controlled, and all of the revolutionaries were satisfied. They are seen entering their van once again, which drives away. From the car window, we see one looking out at the camera, smiling as she sees the destroyed academy once more. The camera remains on eye level with the road, showing the car drive off through the lengthy strip of trees and a glorious sunrise.

We see a cartoon man, wearing a fedora and a detective’s outfit, waiting in line for something. In line with him are several other wacky cartoon characters, all wildly diverse in appearance, outside of a large studio. He tells himself to calm down, and to do what he always does in calming himself: reciting the digits of Pi. 3.14159….and so on. He soon meets the character in line next to him, an anthropomorphic cat in an astronaut suit, going by the name of AstroCat. He is also somewhat nervous about his audition, and he hopes that he gets his show on the network. The man says that he feels the same way, introducing himself as Inspector Sketchit, and his show is mainly about him solving crimes by using his powers of drawing sketches that come to life. AstroCat says that that’s probably going to have a lot of people on the internet pointing out logical errors relentlessly about the show. “And this is coming from an astronaut cat who speaks English.” AstroCat pauses and says, “Touche.” They wish each other luck as a large, slug-like cartoon tells Sketchit that it’s time for his audition. AstroCat wishes him luck, as Sketchit walks through the doors.

Sketchit walks in through the doors clumsily, and he comes up to three characters, Deputy Burlap, the brave force of law in Shiverin’ Gulch, Pikachu, arguably the most famous Pokemon there is, and the CEO of the network, President Ron Executor, who looks at Sketchit with a rather grim frown. Executor tells him that this is the 27thtime that he’s auditioned for a role such as this, and asks if he has something planned that will cause this audition to go better than any other. Sketchit smiles brightly and says that he does, but after a pause, and a few awkward instances of him trying to think of something new, he realizes that he has nothing. Executor sighs and tells him that he seems like a nice guy, bright and enthusiastic, but it’s not what the network needs right now. “You see, ratings are approaching lows like we haven’t seen before, and kids these days just don’t like the fun cartoons that we’ve always shown. They want more dark things, violence, and so on.” He then looks to the judges as they look at him, and both of the judges write these notes down. The point is, they need something truly revolutionary and dazzling to save the network, and he just doesn’t have it.  Sketchit says that he understands, and he leaves the studio with a feeling of sadness. Meanwhile, CEO Executor calls up The Jetsons, saying that the go live in 10 minutes.

He then takes a colorful train to the center of Disney Street and Looney Boulevard, where he sees several other classic cartoon characters present. The city is alive with brightness and wackiness all around, as cartoons go about their daily business, some a bit more unusual than the rest. Hong Kong Phooey is practicing with nun chucks, only to lose them off screen and hit someone in the head, while another cartoon is reading a newspaper about a secret friendship between Tom and Jerry. However, most of them look on at disdain towards Sketchit, who looks on sadly. He does know why all of this was happening, though. Sketchit also walks past a billboard advertising the simulation of dreams through memories, like in To The Moon. He soon comes up to a corner of the city, where a trash can begins talking to him, asking why he is feeling sad. Sketchit soon says that it’s getting pretty sad when he’s talking to a trash can for solace, “no offense,” The trash can soon says, “None taken.

He then goes to a bar where several cartoon and relaxing and listening to music from a club jazz band, consisting mainly of a crow, a fox, a dog, a mouse, and a pizza chef. At the bar Sketchit asks for a drink of Color Color Boom Pow, a popular beverage in the world of cartoons. Some say it gives various characters the energy they show on TV, like Woody Woodpecker.  Sketchit talks to the bartender, a large blue slug wearing a fedora and a nice shirt and tie, all of which are navy blue. “Didn’t get your show again, huh?” Sketchit frowns, saying how frustrating it can be at times. The slug tells him that the bar will always be there, and he’s in good company, even with his most recent mishap. Sketchit asks that he not remind him of that, saying that nobody has let him forget it. The two look out at the various people at the club. He smiles, as the bar tender says its open mic night for any toon to get out any musical numbers, be it of joy or angst, but Sketchit politely declines. He soon notices Betty Boop, a famous cartoon character, wearing a dark coat, as gray as she is, and she leaves the club, leaving her purse behind.

Sketchit finishes his drink, sets it on the glass, puts some money beside it, (he struggles to find cash, as his wallet it filled with several other wacky things, such as fireworks and PDAs) yells to keep the change, and quickly leaves the club, getting the purse and stepping outside. He calls out for Betty, saying that she left her purse at the club. He tries to run in one direction, until she finds a sign that points in two directions: One leads to Betty, and the other leads to “Just don’t go this way.” Sketchit remarks that this is kind of creepy, but he still runs in the right direction. He soon sees Betty looking around and finding a large apartment building, going inside. He soon quickly follows, following her to an elevator, but having to take the next one. He then talks to the elevator keypad as he tries to follow Betty Boop. The keypad thinks that this probably won’t lead to any good, but he makes the elevator go to the penthouse level. “You’re not going to murder her, are you?” “What?! No! I just have her purse!” “That’s a bizarre weapon!” “No, you don’t understand…never mind. Just bring me to her floor.” The elevator does so, singing out generic elevator music. He soon finds the floor she is on, and it has just one door.

Sketchit gulps, knocking on the door to Betty’s penthouse. She opens the door, finding that she has her purse. She thanks him very much for his gentleman-like behavior, and invites him into her penthouse. However, Sketchit gasps in huge shock. He sees several legenday cartoon characters sitting down and playing cards: Fred Flinstone, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Underdog, Darkwing Duck, and Popeye The Sailor Man. Betty introduces her new friend to these legends, and Bullwinkle jumps up to Sketchit, saying how excited he is to meet him. Sketchit, however, begins to have a spasm, and begins to make bizarre faces. Everyone looks at him strangely. He soon shouts, “3.14159265359!!!!!!” He is meanwhile running towards the window of the penthouse, jumping out when he says the final nine. The cartoon legends looks out of the window with concern, as Fred says that they should probably check on him. Darkwing Duck says that he’s fine, as cartoons tend to have great endurance. Before this happens, we see the sound of a truck passing through and later, a shout of, “I’m okay!” Then, there comes a sound of Sketchit (still off-screen) being hit by an anvil, causing Sketchit to ask why people just randomly drop anvils. The cartoons looks down and find a conveyor belt of anvils falling onto the sidewalk.

There is a point of view shot from Sketchit’s eyes from a hospital bed, and a rather attractive cartoon nurse is checking up on him. “You have some guests who would like to visit,” and he sees all of the cartoons from the previous night, looking at him with concern and hope that he’s okay. Darkwing Duck is the only one not present. Sketchit immediately faints again. He opens his eyes only to faint again. This process repeats several times, and the toons’ concern terns to annoyance. We also see that Sketchit has a large bump on his head and a black eye, as well as a cast around his arm. Sketchit soon wakes up and thinks that it’s all out of his system. He soon wakes up, and Popeye comes up to thank him for returning Betty’s purse. Sketchit soon asks what brought such a famous band of cartoons together. Underdog explains in rhyme, “We’ve all come together for a vital reason, for if we don’t act, it could be our last season!”  Rocky tells him to stop worrying about coming up with a rhyme every sentence and to let him do the talking. “From what I can gather, the cartoon universe is on the verge of destruction!”

Rocky goes on to mention a mysterious force that appears to be destroying the cartoon world. Famous cartoon characters have been disappearing recently, and we see a montage of them being attacked by a shadowy figure: Pinky & The Brain, Speed Racer, Snagglepuss, and many more. They all need to stay together, and Rocky lets Bullwinkle say why. “….because being lonely is sad?” Rocky says that while this is true, sighing in the process, they need to stick together because they may very well be among the next targets. Popeye looks off-screen, and sees something up with a nurse around the corner. She appears to be tendering to herself, looking at a corner. Popeye asks her if she needs any help, but she turns around, and it isn’t any ordinary nurse. It’s a purple-skinned, human-like monster with red eyes, sharp teeth, and dark, spiked hair. He begins to let out a sharp hiss, and everyone looks on in horror. People run across the hallways, some saying that “I don’t know why I’m panicking!” Through the red eyes of the monster, we see it focus on the main heroes. He begins to dash across the hospital hallway, when all of the heroes duck away, except for Bullwinkle, who only musters up a lame cower. Suddenly, we see a shadowy figure jump into the scene to knock out the monster: Darkwing Duck.

Darkwing says “I am the terror that flaps in the night, I am the time that is extremely convenient”, as the monster comes up from the ground, but all of the heroes have various weapons out. Rocky has a slingshot, Fred has a stone club, and Popeye has a can of spinach. Sketchit looks on awkwardly as he says that his pen is sort of sharp, he supposes. The monsters says that he’ll be back to get them one day, although he realizes that he shouldn’t have just said that, and he’s now appearing to be rather week. As he continues to stutter, he just drops a “Whatever” and disappears in a cloud of smoke. Darkwing asks if they were just telling him about the disappearances, and they nod. “It was totally worth it for that dramatic entrance.” Popeye gives Sketchit a business card, saying that they’re forming a crusade against this eraser guy. If he’s interested in joining the fight, he knows who to call. “Ghostbusters?” Sketchit jokes. They all kind of groan, saying how that’s one of the oldest jokes in cartoons. Sketchit feels idiotic for making that lame joke, but doesn’t mind. The next scene shows him walking out of the hospital, noting how fast everything went, and looking at the business card. Sketchit looks at it, and he has comically mixed emotions. “I’m so excited for this opportunity! I’m going to die! I’m working with legends! I’ll weigh them down!”

Sketchit is back as his small apartment, almost set up like a detective’s office, and he looks sadly at a news headline: “UNPROVEN TOON WRECKS ARCADE WITH MAGIC SKETCHPAD.” The headline is discussing Sketchit, who has humiliated himself after drawing a blue whale inside of the city’s most popular arcade, earning much disdain for the event. He has since changed his appearance, notably, to a different color coat and hat. He then looks at his sketchpad and pen, and realizes that it’s too dangerous to keep using them. However, he looks at pad one more time, and draws a sword. The sword magically comes to life in real size, and Sketchit picks up, smiling. He begins to slash the sword around, until he comes to an epiphany. He picks up the old-fashioned telephone and dials the number on the card. “It’s me, Sketchit. You said you needed help saving the world?”

We then cut to a cartoon news show in the world of cartoons, where a robotic newscaster reports on more mysterious disappearances of cartoon legends and the panic that is overtaking the city. Among the people interviewed are Selena (Sylvarius), Leon Redbeard (Amulet), and more cartoon characters. Sketchit goes to Boop’s penthouse again, and she welcomes him in. She then presses a few buttons on her doorpad, and asks Sketchit to move off of the welcome mat. He complies. The mat, saying “Boop boop-a-doop!” flips over, revealing a secret tube-like passage. Sketchit nods, “ladies first” and Boop goes in, jumping right in. Sketchit soon follows, screaming as he goes through the roller-coaster like tube chain. Betty soon lands on her feet in the floor below the end of the tunnel, while Sketchit lands a much more awkward landing. He looks around with much awe, seeing all of the same toons around a large war-room like table, with monitors of the cartoon world spread all across the room. Sketchit remarks that the layout is impressive, and he finds a place to sit down at the table, ready for action.

Sketchit looks around the room, doing investigation of the toons. He suspects that he’s going to have a love interest in here, probably Betty Boop, but he never knows, and there’s probably that arrogant one that will have a grudge against him but come to grow on him, maybe Darkwing? Everyone is a bit confused at what he is doing, but Sketchit calms down, saying that he’s always done this. He anticipates it as being another of his leitmotifs for being on his show. He soon apologizes for being sidetracked, and gets back with the rest of the cartoons. They have finally investigated their threat, The Eraser. He was the one who attacked them at the hospital, and he’s probably the one who was making all of these cartoon characters disappear.  They need to find more information about this insidious threat, while trying to defend themselves from its terror. They were able to find that they were attacking the central square of the city tomorrow. Sketchit asks how they found out about it, when Rocky says that he hid a camera on the back of The Eraser when he attacked at the hospital, revealing this information before noticing the camera and taking it off. Everyone compliments Rocky, who says it was an act of child’s play. Sketchit is then introduced to the wild and crazy weapons that the team will use in fighting the Eraser and his forces. Among them are ridiculous flamethrowers, talking machine guns, giant clubs, boxing gloves, flowers with hidden TNT, and more. Popeye, grabbing a can of spinach, tells everyone to prepare their weapons for a crazy fight the next day.

It’s a bright day at cartoon square, with the two fountains of Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny lighting the square, and several cartoons enjoying the sunshine. Alex Spark (Spark) and Captain Kidd (The End Of The Universe) are also having a mild argument about the merits of each of their space adventures. All of the sudden, the ground begins to shake underneath them, and several cartoons speed off with great fear and panic, expressed humorously, of course. Inside the crevice comes a Godzilla like monster, colored dark purple, akin to the design of the Eraser. He is about to pick up and eat a young cartoon ferret, but he is shot with a laser, dropping the ferret. Sketchit is holding a giant laser gun which he had drawn from his sketchpad. He remarks under his breath, “That was awesome.” Suddenly, all of the cartoons come out of their hiding places, ready to fight. Fred has his trusty club, Rocky & Bullwinkle have a cannon, Popeye just ate a can of spinach, Underdog is flying in the air, “There’s no need to fear, Underdog is here!”  Darkwing Duck waits atop a nearby building, and Betty Boop  just looks for a moment, then pulls out a gigantic RPG, which is able to talk: “Let’s destroy some evil!”

Soon, an over the top battle ensues, full of crazy sound effects, as the heroes try to subdue the monster. Popeye and Fred try to beat up the monster, keeping it distracted, while Betty fires the RPG at it, soon breaking the fourth wall by saying, “I bet that part might have surprised you.” Sketchit fires his laser gun, scoring a few decent hits. Darkwing also swoops in to bop the monster right in its nose, feeling very proud of himself afterwards. Rocky delivers the final blow, however, by shooting Bullwinkle out of a cannon and having him hit the monster right in the gut. The monster topples back into the crevice, and after some shock, there is cheering for the victory against the monster. There are photographs taken of the famous cartoon heroes, with some people cheering wildly. Sketchit tries to get in on the action, but he is cast aside from his much more famous co-fighters. When he insists that he fought with them, all he got was great laughter, much to his dismay. He did kind of fight in an obscure and camera-shy location. (There is a montage of scenes from the fight, none showing Sketchit.) Sketchit frowns, but is still happy for his allies.

A large block party  is soon thrown for the heroic cartoons as they are celebrating their victories. Two cartoons discuss how fast this gala was thrown together considering how the event had just happened. Many people are trying to interview the cartoons, and Betty Boop and Darkwing Duck are enjoying the spotlight greatly. Fred Flinstone also uses a bird to fly around and copy his signature to everyone. “Eh, it’s an efficient practice.” Sketchit, on the other hand, is having a hard time being let in, as the bouncers, two large gorillas, are mocking him for believing that he actually contributed to the saving of the city. Popeye eventually lets him in, apologizing for the two guys giving him a hard time. Popeye actually calls him out from the crowd, confirming that Sketchit actually did help them fight the monster. After a brief pause, and some snickering, people realize that Sketchit really was helpful, and they begin to cheer. For the first time in his drawn life, Sketchit felt like he could actually be worth something.

Through a montage, we see the fame that these heroes have (re)acquired. There are movies, video games, and more about the exploits of these heroes in the cartoon world. They even save more lives from the attacks of the Eraser. Sketchit soon feels like this is the only group of friends that he has ever truly had. ‘Friends’ wasn’t even the right word. Sketchit believed that they were truly a family, telling them how grateful he is that he took them under his wing.

A few days later, we see him walking down the street, with much happiness, even talking to some cute animals on the his walk, and being greeted by several other cartoons. Things couldn’t be better for him, and he felt like if he could keep this up, that he could finally land his show on the network. He just needed to keep being awesome. He mentions how this may be one of the best days ever, all while stepping on a banana peel and falling into a manhole. He says that he needed to go down this manhole anyways to the cartoons watching above. As it turns out, he actually did. He travels down the manhole for an alternate route to the secret hide out of the recently dubbed ‘Hand Drawn Heroes.’ Everyone is just relaxing and playing retro-style video games until they notice that Sketchit has arrived. They welcome him aboard, and they begin to announce their next mission. They’re going to have to actually infiltrate The Eraser’s hideout to investigate.

Here is their plan: They’re going to set up a fake cartoon decoy (whom Sketchit will draw.) The Eraser will come to capture it, and Betty will then trail him to his hideaway. The others will teleport then when she gets the connection set up at the hideaway. They then need to examine the hideaway without being caught, which is why everyone is wearing a chameleon on their shoulders in this situation: to  have it blend in with other surroundings. Sketchit is skeptical of that working, since chameleons would just blend in with the characters, but he assumes that these people must know what they’re doing. Rocky notes that these are special chameleons that he was able to transmit color changing capabilities to other things. His explanation is very scientific. “Mr. Peabody really helped me with it!” Sketchit looks at him with a blank face, almost saying, “Damn.”. The plan begins, as Sketchit deplots a nearly robotic cartoon character: A flamingo wearing a bowtie. “I sure hope the Eraser doesn’t abduct me!” is repeated by it numerous times in the same voice. There is then a shadowy figure lurking through the city, and it finds the flamingo. It snatches the flamingo in a shadow-like bag, and it slithers away into the shadows. Betty Boop, in disguise with the chameleon, follows the Eraser.

She is a crafty follower, disguising herself in a variety of sneaky positions. She eventually arrives to a large car that the Eraser gets into. She hides herself in the trunk, taking advantage of the noise made by The Eraser throwing in the flamingo robotic decoy. All of the other heroeis are waiting for the teleportation hub at headquarters, believing that they will be able to get in at any moment. They all have their robotic chameleons ready. Sketchit, meanwhile, is still more excited than anyone, thinking that a few more acts like this and he’ll have his show in no time. Betty soon arrives at what appears to be a large tower far off from the rest of the city, and she is able to sneak in, soon placing a small device outside of the door. It begins to light up, and the other HDHs arrive to the scene, all of which are invisible after a moment. They set their help warning to be “THIS IS BAD! THIS IS BAD!” They soon all divide to examine the secrets of the building, each covering a different floor. They’re obviously taking important areas like mission control and archival records rather than Birthday Parties and Ice Cream Central. Bullwinkle remarks, “People with areas like that can’t possibly be evil, right?”

They split off, each taking stealthy manuevers and sometimes knocking out some of the Eraser’s workers. Darkwing Duck soon arrives in the CSC (Cartoon Storage Chambers) and is able to sneak in. As he enters through a vault, his eyes soon bulge as he looks around the room in shock. Several famous cartoon characters are being stored in liquid tubes, in a state of deep sleep. He-Man, Huckleberry Hound, Mickey Mouse, and Bugs Bunny are all present, among others. Daria complains about how boring this is, and how she’d like to be let out on the sooner side. Darkwing Duck soon hides away as he sees two workers coming in, investigating the area and talking about the ice cream social that’s going on at the country club in a few days. Darkwing whispers into a headset what he’s seen to everyone. Sketchit, on the other hand, is climbing through a vent as he overhears talking. He recognizes the voice as Ron Executor, the CEO of the network, and The Eraser. Sketchit draws a recording device to capture what he hears. Sketchit looks down from the ceiling, and he finds The Eraser talking to CEO Executor. Executor has been blackmailed by the Eraser, threatening him to phase out the programming of famous cartoons and prevent new ones from taking the air. Executor didn’t want to comply, even admitting that he wanted to give Sketchit his own show, but the Eraser threatened him with being ‘erased’ should he not comply with the decisions that he makes.

Sketchit’s jaw soon drops from the ceiling, opening the vent and dangling from the ceiling. The Eraser turns around and looks at the jaw with much confusion. After tapping it, he looks up and finds Sketchit. The Eraser pulls the jaw of Sketchit down, causing him to fall onto the floor. He confronts The Eraser for doing all of this, and CEO Executor for following him this whole time. The Eraser then creates a trap that slams Sketchit to the wall, trapping him with a slimey substance. The Eraser explains that this is merely progress once again. He of all people should remember how CEO Executor had concerns about how kids wanted action and drama, not just stupid cartoons anymore. Sketchit tries to tell him that he’s wrong, but The Eraser interrupts him, saying that this conversation has already bought them time to find the rest of his posse.  Sketchit then sees footage of all of the heroes being round up and put into jail cells. He wanted to see them helpless against their destruction. Sketchit begs him to let them go, but The Eraser apologizes. “To make way for the future, sacrifices from the past must be made. However, we won’t make it all horrible for you in particular.” He zaps Sketchit and Executor with a ray gun, making them vanish, and the screen fades to black.

End credits begin to play with “The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel. Sketchit momentarily notices the credits and becomes angry, insisting that this is not where it will end. He draws a giant, green monster that eats the end credits, while Sketchit tells the audience that this will continue in a few moments.

Cut to a few days later, when The Eraser is preparing his final wipeout of the entire city, using the famous cartoons, now brainwashed, to do the destruction for him. Sketchit, however, has been ensured safety and finally got his own show with CEO Executor, like he had always dreamed. He has to deal with a more serious and dramatic script, much to his dismay, however. He also laments how he let his friends down. Meanwhile, at the jail the HDHs are kept in, all of them are in a state of dismay. Darkwing criticizes Sketchit for giving them away, but the others are a bit more forgiving, saying that he did try his best, and he’s already been though a lot in his chaotic life. “Poor kid,” Popeye says about him. The first day of shooting comes around, and Sketchit tries to think about how much entertainment he’s going to provide for these kids. Sketchit is about to film his first scene of his first episode, and everyone is prepared for one of the biggest events of the network. Before filming commences, chaos erupts on the set, with everyone in the crew trying to take control of their props to get things ready, but some noises are heard outside, and people become quiet. Executor and Sketchit glance at each other in a moment of thought, however, and they soon speak in unison: “Oh no.”

Suddenly, a Thunderstorm appears inside the studio, sending the roof crashing down and crushing a crew member (who pops out and says “I’m okay!”), causing everyone to hide and run away. The Eraser appears inside the studio, offering them movie-theater style seating and popcorn to watch the destruction of the city, which is currently being taken over by the brainwashed cartoon legends. Executor then comes up to the Eraser and says, after some hesitation, that he will not be his pawn anymore. He has been fighting on the wrong side this whole time, and he now plans to mend his ways. The Eraser, with a frown, soon begins to smile and says that it is fine, as he can destroy both of them too. Sketchit says that he liked the idea, but maybe it was foolish to say that right in front of him. Executor shrugs, and the two both scream. Sketchit, in an attempt to get away, does a scribble in his pad: A poorly drawn car. It comes to life, so he and Executor escape in it. Executor criticizes the poor design of the car, but Sketchit remarks, “When you need to escape from an evil sorcerer using only magical writing utensils, then you can criticize me.”

They soon drive through the city, chased by The Eraser. However, The Eraser creates several more minions released from the ground: Purple-zombie like variations of the cartoon characters he’s kidnapped. They try to fend them off, but Sketchit hopes that the others are okay. Fortunately, they also manage to escape from the menaces by drawing in an extra motor to boost speed. The HDHs are still stuck in their prison cell, but a familiar face pops up from outside of the window: Sketchit. He says, with various jumps, to “Back.” “Away.” “I’m.” “Breaking.” “You.” “Out.” He is jumping on an increasily in-pain Executor. Sketchit attaches a bomb to the prison, and makes it explode a wall into the outside world, the city entering a state of terror. Sketchit tries to think of something to tell them that “even though you are in this dark situation, and you think that all hope is lost-“ but everyone groans, as they are already prepared to take action.  A zombified maggot soon pops out of the prison wall, but Sketchit stabs it with a pencil. Rather than dying, however, the maggot is returned to its normal self. The maggot smiles until it is crushed by Darkwing, who hates bugs. Sketchit soon realizes that he may have a better idea.

The cartoons soon go into the city, not armed with their weapons, but with pencils of Sketchit’s creation. In an abandoned stret, Rocky looks at an erased-Secret Squirrel monster, the two facing off in a Western style showdown. Rocky runs forward, closes his eyes, and pierces him with his pencil. A large burst of light then occurs, and Secret Squirrel is returned to normal. Rocky is delighted, but Secret Squirrel believes that he was just dreaming this whole time. Bullwinkle calls to Sketchit that they’re going to need more pencils, and Sketchit keeps them coming. Soon, the HDHs are able to clean up all of the zombified characters into their natural states once more. The Eraser is appalled by this, soon channeling the energy at his base to become a gigantic version of himself. Everyone also realizes that pencils are too weak against this giant monster. “You idiots! It’s going to take more than that!” the Eraser yells. All of the cartoons, led by the HDHs, begin to attack the monster with all of their weapons. (Betty Boop’s talking RPG makes a return in this scene.) However, none of these seem to work. Executor seems to have disappeared, though, but Sketchit hopes that he wasn’t lying at the studio.

Sketchit realizes that he needs to draw a gigantic pencil, stronger than anything seen before. He is guided to a warehouse safely by Darkwing, where a large sheet of paper is laid out. Sketchit begins to draw his vision of the most epic pencil ever (Saying that sounded cooler in his head.) Before he can finish, the Eraser finds and grabs him with his giant, monstrous hand. The Eraser is about to crush Sketchit, saying what a shame it is that he will fall once he finally had the chance to make a name for himself. The HDHs run into the warehouse just in time, ready to finish the drawing with the pencil that Sketchit dropped. Darkwing draws the final line, and It soon comes to life in a flash of light, much to Sketchit’s joy. Sketchit yells to fire at will, and all of the HDHs lift up the pencil, and using Popeye’s great might from spinach, throw it right into the heart of The Eraser. Sketchit soon falls down, landing on the pencil and riding it to the top of another building, while The Eraser shouts a dramatic, “NOOOOO!!!!” and begins to turn into light. After a pause, everyone begins to cheer, and Sketchit sees that the people are cheering for him. Sketchit runs down and begins to crowd surf, meeting up with the other heroes as well.

After much congratulation, Sketchit soon comes to a sad realitization that this isn’t really going to stop the people beyond from not watching us. CEO Executor soon walks up with a smile, holding up a live camera. We then cut to people in the real world (still in 2D but with slightly more detailed human expressions) are talking about the awesome special on Cartoon Junction. Teens, families, nerds, everyone is raving about it. With this realitization, the toons realize that their programming may be safe afterall, which leads to even more cheering. The Slug Bartender and AstroCat hug in the crowd, and Icarus (from the Gemini film) flies high into the sky, lighting up some fireworks that transition to the next scene.  We soon find out that rather than start his own show, Sketchit has become the head of the DTD, Department of Toon Defense, using his powers to protect the city. He realized that this was far more fitting for him than just being on some show, still happy for his friends who continue to appear on TV. It’s true that some old friends will have to say goodbye to make way for new toons, but for now, everything is going just as it should, and for all of his life, he’ll never forget the time when he saved the world with the HAND DRAWN HEROES.

In the near future, advancements in technology will drive Las Vegas to further madness, turning the city into a crazier and more colurful playground in the style of cyberpunk. Unfortunately, crime and corruption have advanced as much as the city, and murders and theft are commonplace in the city. Audra Keyes is a detective working for the city police department, who has developed a strong understanding of the ins and outs of criminal activity, and she has managed to sabotage several crime rings in the city during her career, thus forming a seemingly strong bond of mutual trust between her and the LVMPD, especially with her boss, Derek Mayzer.

Things began to change for the worse, one fateful day. After chasing down a man who smuggled a gun into the newly-futuristic Golden Nugget casino, Audra is shocked to discover that the police are after both of them. Audra is accused of being a part of a large drug smuggling ring in the city, much to the disappointment of Mayzer. She then escapes the police and sets out to prove her innocence, making moves that investigate the drug ring, known as Eden's Suppliers, where she plants herself as a member in disguise. The police continues to track her down, but she remains one step ahead.

Upon her shock, she discovers that the police have made a deal with Eden's Suppliers to take Keyes down, working with several other criminal organizations to accept bribes to lay off of them. Keyes' investigations was shaking this fragile, if unethical, peace. Keyes confronts Mayzer on the issue, realizing that he was the one behind the deal. The two soon get into a fight, which leads to Keyes's victory, and the Nevada government moving in to try and set things right and cover up the incident. Keyes has abandoned her role as a police detective and has moved on to work on her own.

Felt like releasing one last film this quarter. Name: Run & GunDirector: Pierre MorelGenre: Action/ThrillerDate: April 27-29Cast: Brad Pitt (Jacob Beecham),  Maggie Gyllenhaal (Sarah Mitchell), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Brit), Jason Momoa (LaShawn Merritt), Danny Trejo (Alberto Juantore), Lee Byung-hun (Nan Shoryu), Charles Dance (The (other) Brit) Plot:

The Run and Gun. One of the biggest underground gambling events in the world. One man, specially chosen for his survival skills, is given a key to a station locker many miles away. He is given a one hour headstart before three 10-man mercenary teams chase after him. The mercenaries are not allowed to use guns or explosives and the target is allowed one handgun with six shots. If the man makes it to the locker, he wins the $10 million locked inside it, as well as his safety. If one of the Mercenaries teams manage to kill him and retrieve the key, they win the $10 million instead.  Meanwhile, everyone else bets on the results. Jacob Beecham is an ex-special forces agent who retired after his wife's unfortunate death to look after their son, Thomas. Thomas has a serious illness and costs the two a lot in medical bills. Jacob finds out about a medical procedure that could cure Thomas's illness permanently, but it is too expensive for him to afford. He briefly considers holding up a bank, when he is suddenly approached by a mysterious man calling himself 'The Brit' who asks him if he 'likes to run'. The Brit introduces himself as the appointed Overseer of the Run and Gun and offers Jacob a chance to take part. Jacob, planning to use the reward money to help pay for his son's procedure, agrees. The Brit immediately passes him the key, gives him an address several states over, an ipad containing information on each mercenary group coming after him, a mobile to contact him and a gun, before informing Jacob that he has one hour safe-time, his son has been taken into protective custody and that he should 'probably start running'. Jacob immediately runs to his car but, seeing how the city traffic is clogged up, realises that it'd be a prime spot for an ambush and decides to take the subway instead. As he heads down, he spots several people trailing him. Once he's on a train, he sends a text to a friend, Sarah Mitchell, who acts as Thomas's carer, asking her to take his car and drop it off at a certain spot for him. In the meanwhile, he reads through the information on the mercenaries provided (narrated by the Brit). The three groups are let by psychopathic axe-nut LaShawn Merritt, the Mexican machete user Alberto Juantore and the suave Triad Nan Shoryu, who is skilled with throwing knives. Suddenly, the subway train stops and the lights go out. Jacob, realising it's likely an attack, tries to conceal himself in the darkness from the three mercenaries currently making their way through the train. However, his mobile rings revealing his position and a fight breaks out as the train lights constantly flicker on and off. Jacob manages to kill one of the mercenaries, by stabbing him with his own knife, and manages to open one of the train doors to escape. However, the train starts moving again and Jacob is trapped in a narrow gap between the two remaining goons and several more who have just arrived. To escape, he clings onto the side of the moving train and lets it carry him away. Two goons cling on after him, but, in a intense fight, he manages to knock them off, using up one of his bullets in the process. The train arrives at the next station where Jacob spots several men, as well as the police, looking for him. To avoid them, he enters the sewers via the subway track, narrowly avoiding another train. While down there he receives another phone call from the Brit (who was the one who called him in the subway tunnels) who warns him that Shoryu has used his police connections to issue a warrant for Jacob's arrest and that, if he is caught by them, he will almost certainly be killed. Jacob complains about being attacked in the subway since his hour of safe-time wasn't up yet. When he describes the men who attacked him, the Brit recognises them as Juantore's men and promises Jacob a gift in compensation, if he comes to a nearby address. Jacob emerges from the sewers only to find Juantore and his men waiting for him. Jacob is surrounded when suddenly, a mysterious figure on a rooftop tosses a flash bomb, giving him a distraction to escape. A chase ensues down the city alleyways. Jacob manages to fool Juantore and most of his men into going the wrong way, but one goon sees through the ruse and corners Jacobs in a dead end. The goon is promptly run over by Sarah who had arrived with Jacob's car and seen the goon threatening him. Jacob explains the situation to a panicked Sarah and realising it's too dangerous to leave her behind, decides to take her with him to the address the Brit told him his 'compensation' was at. Meanwhile, Juantore and his group are ambushed and arrested by the police, who were tipped off by a 'mysterious informant' as to his location. Jacob and Sarah are nearly at the address they were given when, suddenly, they are ambushed by LaShawn and his gang in their own vans. Jacob manages to cause one of the vans to crash and explode, killing the four goons on board, but LaShawn manages to slash one of his tires with an axe, forcing Jacob and Sarah to abandon the vehicle. After Jacob uses up another of his bullets to kill one of LaShawn's henchmen, the two make it to the apartment where the gift is, but LaShawn has the building surrounded. Luckily, the compensation is a motorbike, which the two use to break their way out of the building and out of the city. When Jacob stops to refuel, he is approached by the Brit who offers to take Sarah into protective custody, but Jacob refuses, believing she'd be safer if she kept away from the whole thing. When the Brit asks him what his plan is, Jacob reveals he's planning to drive partway to his destination before tricking his opponents by doubling back and catching a plane to his destination. Meanwhile, LaShawn has broken Juantore out of prison and the two agree to join forces after LaShawn convinces Juantore that Shoryu was the one who threw the flashbomb and tipped the police off. Meanwhile, while driving along a particularly mountaneous and empty stretch of land, Jacob is ambushed by Shoryu and several of his men in a helicopter, who attempt to drive him off the road and/or hit him with his throwing knifes. After several near collisions, Jacob uses three of his bullets to force the helicopter to crash into a cliff face, killing all onboard except Shoryu who manages to jump to safety seconds before the collision. However, as a result, Jacob only has one bullet left now. When he stops a second time for gas, Jacob calls Sarah who he'd told to monitor the airport after he lied to the Brit about his plans, distrusting the man after LaShawn's ambush near where he received the compensation, as only he should've known about that location. She reveals that several of LaShawn and Juantore's men have been monitoring the area, confirming Jacob's suspicions that the Brit is a traitor. However, Sarah is found and captured by the Brit who, unable to tell Jacob to turn back without his bosses becoming suspicious, tells him to come to a large abandoned factory near the final location if he wants to see her again. Jacob arrives at the location where the Brit, LaShawn, Juantore and their remaining men are waiting, with Sarah as their hostage. However, Juantore is disgruntled about having using Sarah as a hostage as it goes against his 'code.' However, Jacob reveals that he doesn't have the key and he only agrees to tell the Brit where it is if Sarah is set free. The Brit reluctantly agrees but the second Sarah is out of his grasp, Shoryu and his men burst in. It is revealed that Jacob contacted Shoryu about the Brit's betrayal before coming to the factory. Realising that, were he to kill Jacob, the Brit would probably kill him and fake the results, Shoryu agrees to help Jacob fight the Brit and split the reward money with him, so Jacob gives him the key and gives him instructions to attack once Sarah is clear. A huge melee fight breaks out between the mercenary groups, something only bolstered when, mid-fight, Shoryu reveals to Juantore that he had nothing to do with the flashbomb or the police arriving. Juantore realises he's been tricked by the Brit and LaShawn, the true culprits, and turns on them. However, he is beaten and decapitated by LaShawn after a short fight between the two. Shoryu, meanwhile, is shot and killed by the Brit who, unlike the mercenaries, can freely bring along and use guns. The Brit searches Shoryu's pockets only to find a false key which Jacob tricked Shoryu into believing was the real thing. The Brit chases Jacob and Sarah through the factory and is about to kill Sarah when Jacob, using his last bullet, shoots the Brit in the head. Jacob helps Sarah escape leaving just him and LaShawn as the only two survivors from the brawl. A chase breaks out between the two as they race to the final destination point. Just as Jacob is on the final stretch, LaShawn flings his axe which slices into Jacob's leg, causing him to fall to the ground. Just as LaShawn is about to finish off Jacob, he is shot by another man calling himself 'the Brit' (the other Brit in the credits) who chastises him for breaking the rules and congratulates Jacob on his victory. Several months later, Jacob has recovered from his injuries, been cleared by the police and his son's procedure has been successful. When Jacob arrives home, he finds a fruit basket delivered in apology from the other Brit along with a note asking if he wanted to try it again. Jacob promptly throws the note in the trash. The movie ends with a man sitting on a park bench being approached by the other Brit who asks him if he 'likes to run'.

Studio: Alpha Pictures

Format: 35mm film

Budget: $15 million

Theaters: 2,789

MPAA Rating: PG-13 for frightening and intense scenes, including language and alcohol abuse

Running Time: 97 minutes

Tagline: How Do You Kill Something That Can't Possibly Be Alive?

Cast:

Patrick Schwarzenegger as Arnie

Jack Glesson as Dennis

Bridget Mindler as Leigh

Plot:

While riding home from work with his friend Dennis, nerdy teen Arnold "Arnie" Cunningham spots a dilapidated red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury parked in front of a house. Arnie makes Dennis stop so he can examine the car, despite Dennis' attempts to talk Arnie out of it. The car's owner, Roland D. LeBay, an elderly gentleman wearing a back supporter, sells the car—named "Christine"—to Arnie for $250. While waiting for Arnie to finish the paperwork, Dennis sits inside Christine. He has a vision of the car and the surroundings as they were twenty years ago, when the car was new. Frightened, Dennis gets out of Christine, deciding he dislikes Arnie's new car.

Arnie brings Christine to a do-it-yourself auto repair facility run by Will Darnell, who is suspected of using the garage as a front for illicit drug-related operations. As Arnie restores the automobile he becomes withdrawn, humorless, and cynical, yet more confident and self-assured. Dennis is puzzled by the changes in both his friend and Christine; the repair work proceeds haphazardly, and the more extensive repairs do not appear to be done by Arnie. Arnie's appearance improves in tandem with Christine's. When LeBay dies, Dennis meets his younger brother, George, who reveals Roland's history of violent behavior. George also reveals that LeBay's small daughter choked to death on a hamburger in the back seat of the car, LeBay's wife was so traumatized that she apparently committed suicide in its front seat by carbon monoxide poisoning. As time passes, Dennis observes that Arnie is taking on many of LeBay's personality traits. He also notices that Arnie has become close to Darnell, even acting as a courier in Darnell's interstate smuggling operations.

When Arnie is almost finished restoring Christine, an attractive girl named Leigh Cabot transfers to his high school. She is regarded as the school beauty, and her decision to go out with Arnie puzzles everyone. While on a date with Arnie, she nearly chokes to death on a hamburger and is saved only by the intervention of a hitchhiker who uses the Heimlich maneuver. Leigh notices that Christine's dashboard lights seemed to become glaring green eyes, watching her during the incident, and that Arnie tried to save her by ineffectually pounding her on the back. She realizes that she and Christine are competing for Arnie's affection and vows to never get into the car again.

Arnie's mother refuses to let him keep Christine at home. After several arguments, Arnie's father purchases a 30-day pass for the airport parking lot, helping to restore peace in the family. Soon afterward, Buddy Repperton, a bully who frequently targeted Arnie before being expelled from high school, and his gang of thugs vandalize the car. As Arnie pushes Christine through Darnell's garage/junkyard, the car repairs itself. Arnie strains his back in the process and begins wearing a brace all the time, as LeBay did. His relationship with Leigh declines.

A number of inexplicable car-related deaths occur around town, starting with Buddy's and all but one of his accomplices' in the vandalism and ending with Will Darnell's. The police find evidence linking Christine to the scene of each death, although none is found on the car itself. A police detective named Rudy Junkins becomes suspicious of Arnie, and his suspicions are not allayed even though Arnie is able to produce an airtight alibi for each death. It is revealed that Christine, possessed by LeBay's vengeful spirit, is committing these murders independently and repairing herself after each one.

Arnie becomes obsessed with Christine, forgetting Leigh entirely, and Leigh and Dennis begin their own relationship, unearthing details of Christine and LeBay's past. Dennis speculates that LeBay may have deliberately sacrificed his daughter to make Christine a receptacle for his spirit, after learning that he deliberately took her into the car when she started choking (an incident strongly paralleling Leigh's near-fatal experience).

One evening, Arnie stumbles upon Leigh and Dennis intimately close in Dennis' car, sending him into a rage. Then, Rudy Junkins falls victim to a gruesome death. Knowing they are now at the top of LeBay and Christine's hit list, Dennis and Leigh devise a plan to destroy the car and, hopefully, save Arnie. While Arnie is out of town, they lure Christine to Darnell's garage and batter her to pieces using a septic tanker truck. Dennis briefly witnesses LeBay's spirit attempting to order him to stop. The remains are put through a car crusher, and Dennis learns that Arnie and his mother were both killed in a highway accident, while Christine killed Arnie's father earlier. Witness accounts lead Dennis to believe that LeBay's spirit, tied to Arnie through Christine, tore itself away and caused the wreck.

Four years later, Dennis reflects on these events. He and Leigh parted after attending college together, and he is now a junior high school teacher. He learns about a freak car accident in Los Angeles, in which a movie theater employee was struck and killed by a car that smashed in through the theater wall.
