I really don't understand why people were so letdown by MOS given you know exactly what you're getting with a Snyder film if you've ever seen one. And it wasn't like that was the first time the trailers made one of his movies look way better than it was either.

His Owls movie, Dawn of the Dead and even Sucker Punch all had their heart in the right place. He just needs a good writer, which Goyer isn't.

I don't really get the hatred for MOS (or, frankly, STID or even IM3). They were there, they were okay-ish, they didn't really have much oomph once you take away all the sizzle and flash, and honestly there are far better and more interesting movies to talk about (especially now). None of them were terrible, none were great. They're all in the B-/C+ range and just not worth bitching about.

I agree, but I don't understand why people were expecting the next TDK to come out of a Snyder film? All of his movies are in the B-/C+ range, imo.

I sometimes wonder if the general audience response to Watchmen turned him into a worse filmmaker. Dawn of the Dead, 300, and Watchmen each had plenty of merits. Not so much everything that followed.

But the original had a foxy Kim Cattrall. Hubba hubba.

Yeah but the original still ain't got nothing on a mostly unrelated movie but also stars Kim Cattrall, Big Trouble in Little China.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

Watchmen is leagues above Man of Steel. It actually has something to say and the visuals are genuinely inspiring. Man of Steel is an over-color-corrected mis-mash of hollow emotional throughlines that are somehow truncated throughout a 2 hour and 20 minute running time. A 2:20 film that skimps on character development is quite an achievement.

A 2:20 film that manages to have its main character not once form a complete non-reactionary thought is quite the achievement indeed.
