How did IMAX Melbourne make more the Sydney? Isn't it smaller? Did they have more sessions?

 

Were theatres open on over Avatar's Christmas Day?

 

Consider this. A 40% drop still gives a weekend over $16m.  The same as the opening weekend for JW.

Consider this. With both Xmas eve and day falling on the weekend it means this weekend coming is heavily handicapped meaning most films including openers were either flat or increased (last time this setup happened was avatar. )

Say it got 40% in its 2nd weekend then a third of 13m to 18m is possible. I believe we will see a heavier drop due to the OD though (still about 13m or so)to get 15m or more I think we will need a 6m or 7m Boxing Day.

I think there'll be more capacity this Christmas Day then there was for Avatar.  TFA is keeping every VMAX and Gold Class screen on Boxing Day.  There are already many sold out Gold Class sessions on Boxing Day.

 

So far we've had $27.25m.  Going forward this seems to be a very possible scenario.

 

Mon-Wed: +$9.75 (cume - $37m) [Avatar grossed $7.34m over these days.  $3.5m+ for TFA's Monday suggests $9-10m]

2nd weekend: +$14m (cume - $51m)

Mon-Wed: +$11m (cume - $62m)

3rd weekend: +$14m (cume - $76m)

 

At this point Avatar was at $48.4m.  I think the worst cast scenario has TFA at $70m by this point (3/1/16).

So after a record breaking Sunday it only dropped 35%........

Last night was definitely insane! Still, just below $4m is mind boggling! I'd think a lot of that would have been spillover, so I can't see it being higher until Boxing Day. But I'd expect today to be around $3.5m, with tomorrow around $3m. 

 

$37.5m week

$40m Christmas Eve

$42.5m Christmas Day

$48.5m Boxing Day

$52.5m by end of second weekend

 

It could get to $50m by the end of boxing day but it would have to continue to exceed it's expectations!

 

$8m weekdays

$2m Thursday

$4m Friday

$4m Saturday

$3.5m Sunday

$74m coming out into the new year!

Just watched TFA in VMAX at Hurstville. The theatre is good but the rooftop dining is small and downmarket compared to Miranda.

That's a shame. To be fair though, those were literally new theatres, this is still the same one.
